just for the sake of guessing, "wendy and wally"?

I didn't notice anything funky with the audio - Maybe an iceberg is affecting your reception.

Wow thanx Nedlato - I never even knew if she could speak the language; she doesn't have much of a residual accent.
-
Interesting...Jr. would have turned 16 around '69 or '70, so I'll go with Herbie's Love Bug.

I'm anxious to hear your critique of "The Petrified Forest", path. Please let us know.

Oh Paty I must disagree about Robert Osborne! His Hollywood journalism history and film competence comes across loud and clear, and in a casual delivery.
I compare Ben and him like the "powerful, breaking-news anchor" and the "lighthearted weatherman" respectively, if you know what I mean.

BTW, that was Juliette Binoche in the Three Colors trilogy - I didn't think it was that new (1993-4), but I knew I never saw Jackie Bisset in a subtitled film!
-
I'll say Titanic, though I thought it was '97 or '98.

I really liked "Belle du Jour" with Catherine Deneuve and the Red White and Blue trilogy with (I'm wanting to say) Jaqueline Bissett ..anyway they were probably considered scandalous or at least less-than-savory by US standards.

I think I should get "best casting director"....

Sorry to post twice in a row but I was just looking back and you were a phenom on this! Answering in seconds! *hats off*

I enjoyed the theme mongo! great topic!

I have never seen such a thing listed on media websites myself. An interesting question.
You could find the locale, then maybe old newspaper archives or contact a municipal chamber of commerce - see if they recall.

I'm thinking it was one of those actors from the old "Name of the Game" (or similar)series...I'll say Tony Franciosa.

The Man who Knew too Much?

Notorious?

I was curious to know if anyone had an opinion on our new weekend host on TCM, Ben Mankiewicz? I caught him yesterday and found him to be informative, direct, and even a bit intense in his introductions - and of course, good-looking to boot!
Naturally, I absolutely love Robert Osborne - his nostalgic trivia, personal anecdotes, and laid-back whimsy have made him a welcome guest in my living room. But it is good to have such a refreshing addition to my favorite channel.
(I could do without the bizarre, choppy editing and "artsy" camera angles, tho.)

Actually I think I'm thinking of a Steve McQueen movie! I think I'll go to bed!

-
I loved watching him with a 3-speed on the column...
-
Wow I'm humbled - and no IMDB resources either!
For this one, I'll say "Lifeboat", even though it wasn't a personal appearance - I can't recall seeing him before that.
-
"Rope"?
-
Ruling out any "Ma and Pa Kettle" vehicles, I'll take a stab and say "The Grapes of Wrath"...

"The Big Sleep" remake with Robert Mitchum was, while not BETTER, (I'm a huge Bogey fan!), was at least more clear in it's revelations. I'm sure the censors of the original "veiled" a lot of the criminal aspects - I had no idea the photographs were pornographic. It lended a lot to the fact this girl was victimized (versus just running away to be a model or something).

Which Bette Davis film?
in Information, Please!

I, too, enjoyed The Petrified Forest as a screenplay - even though I found it to be somewhat predictable and "over-the-top" - (WHO would leave their estate to someone they met only an hour before??)
It was refreshing to see an early Bette Davis still with the innocence and naivatee of character. I always associated her with a vixen or harlot, (which she portrayed quite well). But she never came across as a loving person or nurturing mother, even when the script called for it (in later roles). Perhaps this was poor direction, but, to me, the term "great actress" should be reserved for those who are VERSATILE.
