  1. You're right, class, in that it wasn't a tear-jerker. I suppose I got off the topic, but it was simply a rebuttal to stella's post. And stel, you really should try it again! Every summer on a weekend, my son and I have a video-rental weekend of every Academy Award-winning (or -nominated) movie that might appeal to us, so I always watch them in good spirits with my cold brew and my comfy chair. Plus I can't afford 8 bucks a pop at the theaters! *S*
  2. I actually loved The English Patient! It reminded me of a great novel - the kind where they break away from a storyline just when it's getting good, (which pees me off at the time!) but only to resume "plot B" or a flashback, which turns out to be equally enthralling! And Ralph Fiennes didn't hurt the film one bit! *grin*
  3. Good points! I recall seeing an interview with Gillian Armstrong following the filming of "Little Women" '95, and she (as all directors should be!) was very conscious of getting it historically correct. They even used genuine 1860's postage on a letter from father that was only a flash on the screen, and probably wasn't even noticed by 99% of those watching, but authentic for those of us who did!
  4. The scene in Little Women where Beth was on her "deathbed" ("I know I shall miss my sisters - even in heaven..") was 10 times more heartwrenching than the final scene that the magazine cited... I guess people are different. I never cry tears of happiness.
  5. Yes, class, "Rudy" WAS based on a true story. And I'm sure it has it's audience. I admit to being a minority.
  6. Again, I'm a self-admitted cynic, but...Rudy????? Puh-leeeze! To think that the Fighting Irish would risk the game and subsequent conference standings just to give "some kid with a dream" time on the field?? Man, I think I'll ask Tony LaRussa if he could use me as a pinch hitter next season... On the flip-side, I thought "Beaches" with Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey was a tear-jerker, but it didn't make the cut.
  7. Man am I way off base! I was heading somewhere between Jeffrey Dahmer and Carrie until the "classic lit" thing came in! I'm lost but will leave it in you guys' capable hands! Gotta hit the salt mill this evening! *bye*
  8. I'm ashamed to say, I read the synopsis on the dustcovers for book reports! Is it Romeo & Juliet?? (Im still giggling about "Scarlett Pimp"! Why not just spell it out! *L*
  9. ****** So he's on the right track with literature you mean?? I never saw it coming!
  10. No I know this! Paul Newman visits his aunt on her deathbed...or was it Steve Mcqueen?? Sweet Bird of Youth?
  11. Shut up slappy! *LOL* (what was that anyway - Jane Eure's phone number??) Stella is it Gypsy?
