  1. Well since the definition of a child molester is having sex with a girl under the age of 16 or so, even if consensual, than yes, Sellers' character is a child molester. He was with the girl before the step dad (Mason). While the movie takes on a daring topic I view the movie as a classic. Some really fine acting by Winters (who else is better at being annoying), Mason and Sellers (in multiple roles). The ending kind of drags on but the first 23 is unique and packs a punch.
  2. Keep them coming Tom! Very funny. Nice picture of Olivia Dehavilland and Garfield. Never seen that one before.
  3. Yes, Journal of a Crime was a interesting and somewhat unique movie. I admit I haven't seen many of Ruth Chatterton movies except Dodsworth, but she was in fine form in Journal of a Crime.
  4. We need to stop worshiping these stars and to look at how they really were. I would hope we could all agree with that, but the key here is 'look at how they really were'. As I said before, and as Arturo has just pointed out there is a lot of speculation going on here. Speculation is NOT looking at a star 'how they really were'. Often we are left with vague and or contradicting info regarding a star. This makes it difficult to determine 'how they really were'. But to state 'false' means you really know what the truth is, and in this case you don't, you're just speculating, right? Yes, Flynn account could be false, we just don't know. I also read the exchanges under Lauren Bacall. Correct me if I'm all wet but there it appears you didn't appreciate being 'corrected', but in this thread being the corrector is just fine. 5. I agree with Finance on Colbert. To me she is just not sexy in the vast majority of her roles. A lot of that has to do with her hairstyles (e.g. in Cleopatra with 'natural' hair she looks nice). I think she is a great actress and is very versatile. I enjoy her in many movies but I don't see much sexiness in her. But yes, Colbert as SOTM would be great.
  6. Bette Davis is my favorite actress. The best out of Hollywood in my opinion but I don't see any insults here. In fact one would say that the POV that Bette was the boss, that she treated Flynn disrespectfully because she despised him, etc.. can be viewed as insults on Davis more than the comments Tom is making. Of course since Davis was the queen of the WB lot she had more power than anyone else on the lot but that being said it doesn't mean that she wouldn't follow direction. Yes, Davis wasn't like Stanwyck but she wasn't an evil witch either.
  7. Tom; well I guess we have a different perspective. I have my view of Wesley as it relates to the realism of this movie. The movie is not about heroes, but flawed people and situations. Take the marriage between Morgan in his wife. Yes, there is a lot of love but we also see the flaws in each of them as partners. Wesley was a great friend but he also didn't know when he wasn't wanted. That Morgan was being cold to him to protect him (a theme we see in To Have and Have Not Also). So my take is that Wesley was waiting for Morgan to come to the boat and it wasn't just an accident that Wesley was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Even the ending trades a happy ending for realism. I.e. the film could of ended with Morgan and his wife finding what they lost. Many directors would of had happy dramatic music playing to make that point. Instead we have that sad final scene (build up when we see Wesley's son a few moments before), just standing their alone and confused. That was powerful and another example of where The Breaking Point rises above many other stock Hollywood productions.
  8. Silver Lode; Sounds like an interesting film. Duryea is a Fed marshal but why do I get the feeling he is a bad guy! Liz Scott in a western, my gut tells me that wouldn't work but maybe it does. This is Dolores Moran last movie.
  9. TomJH: I assume you have seen the movie My Favorite Year. That is a tribute to Flynn (the DeHavilland reference during an early dinner scene in the movie is obvious to those in the know), and it does show the impact an actor like Flynn had on the life of a young man.
  10. Tom; I don't know if we have had this discussion before (since I have had it with someone here a while back), but I kind of feel Wesley was a busybody. Yea, he was a friend but he was told to NOT get involved and to NOT go to the boat. Thus Wesley could of gotten Morgan killed. Instead he just got himself killed. Also, the crooks might of let Morgan free after he dropped them off, but now, thanks in part to Wesley, they had to kill him after they murdered his friend. So again, Wesley's actions put Morgan in harms way. Of course Wesley's intent was sound, but his need to watch over his friend was misguided and reckless in my view.
  11. You know I would pick the 50s since that was the best era for Jazz music. To live in NYC or LA and see the artists I love in their prime playing live,, that would be something. But I was also reminded that if I went back to the 50s, with my current views on social issues, I would be an outcast and there would be a lot higher percentage of people I didn't respect because of what I would feel were their 'backwards' POV.
  12. Yes, Fred really put one over on us. That was great. Thanks Fred! Funny that now that I know who it is, I can see it but I think the picture of him as Jesus and the type of roles we know Bela for made it difficult to make a connection. At least that is my story and I'm sticking to it.
  13. He died in 1958 and made his last movie, Witness for the Prosecution in 1957. That picture Fred posted is bugging me now! I don't wish to keep throwing out random names.
  14. My first guess was Tyrone Power. But I admit that is just a wild guess based on the features I see in the face.
  15. But I forgot to say that your original point that Bette Davis played a women of the night in a movie, was correct; This would be in the movie Marked Women, with Bogie. The first movie she made after returning from England when her attempt to leave Warner Bros was prevented due to legal action by Jack Warner. Of course due to censorship they have to dance around the topic, but it is clear what their jobs are and the movie ends with Bette and her fellow gals walking down the street,, i.e. street walkers.
  16. You expect me to believe that since you asked for a hint (twice I may add), but OK, since you appear to be a new member (Registered: 09/04/12), I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. We tend to treat new members well here since we don't wish to scare them away, but wait till you've been around for a while. Then the fangs come out.
  17. Geostan: Check out the movie poster thread. The poster up there right now is of a Jungle Jim film. Unless you have multiple log on nick names I find that a very odd coincidence. Cool poster.
  18. Well yes, technically you win but I didn't need a hint so I would say we are tied!
  19. Davis in Of Human Bondage was a waitress and not a prostitute. While she did let men play for her living it wasn't a transactional affair if you know what I mean.
  20. I said to myself Errol Flynn even before I saw the sword reference.
  21. Well 1 out of 2 isn't bad! (but yea, I did get the easier one).
  22. Is that Joan Crawford? (the child actress and dinner reference) As for the latest picture (teen), look like Loretta Young. Edited by: jamesjazzguitar on Sep 15, 2012 1:55 PM
