The only talent Trump has is for making money. Thus I see little to no difference between him and Paris Hilton. Frankly I would rather look at Hilton than Trump. Baldwin is an actor so there is some relationship to movies there, but how did Trump get into all this. Yea, I could go back and read the post but I really don't wish to.

I agree with you 100%. The only time I get upset about trolls at websites like this is if they post so many message it makes the site unuseable. Otherwise your are correct just ignore them and move on. To me others just expect too much from the TCM admin for a site they pay nothing to use.

The better movie reference is A Place In The Sun. Monty didn't throw Shelly off that small boat. She fell off, but he didn't make any attempt to save her. He got the death penalty. Since I'm big hearted, I'm only asking for 20 years.

Hey, I was joking to a degree. But really if the captain could of saved Natalie but he refused to because he was 'ordered', he is responsible for Natalie's death to some degree. Are you saying he isn't? One part of a captain's job is to ensure the safety of his passengers.
As for those other witnesses; If one withholds information from the police related to a crime, that is a crime. Why would these witnesses withhold the information? Did they take a bribe? That would be let another crime. I find it hard to believe these witnesses didn't come forward for 30 years because they were just too busy or they didn't know the location of the police building or their phone number.

Virginia Woolf is a very well made movie with some great acting, but it is the type of movie I wouldn't define as a favorite.
i.e. something I look forward to watching or can say I really enjoyed. It just is sooooo full of drama that after even watching a few scenes I feel like I have been punched and that isn't a favorite feeling of mine.
Maybe because the movie reminds me of my parents! (hey they were not that bad but you get the idea).
Still a first class movie but I can only take it in chucks now.

But are we talking about frequency of occurance or total programming hours, say over a one year period????
I do statistical work for a living and it makes one think in this way. But I come here to forget about that!

By NOT showing Dr Z even one time TCM could show 4 or 5 movies from the 30s!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'it makes no sense'? How do you computer experts expect TCM to stop these hacks? I'm a computer programmer and I have done my share of hacking.
It is very easy to fake an IP address; to pass a random, alias IP address. Yea, TCM could employ counter fake IP address software and other expensive modes of trying to prevent hacking, but this isn't a bank or the TCM admin an FBI hacking expert.
How much do people expect TCM to spend to ensure bozos don't post messages? Would people be willing to pay a monthly fee (as suggested), so TCM could spend more on net security and admin cost? I sure wouldn't wish to pay a fee (i.e. the problem isn't big enough to justify a fee).

If Davern let a women drown without doing something to save her he is as guilty as the guy that threw her into the water.
So if R.W. goes down for murder, Davern should also. But I would give him a lesser sentence. Something like only 20 years.
As for the other witnesss; They also should be charged for withholding evidence and given some jail time.

I really hope that as time marches on interest by the general population here in America will remain at or near the current level today. But if I was a betting man, I would bet against it. i.e. interest will decline.
One reason could be the increase in the latino population and immigration in general. Are younger immigrants as interested in classic American movies as people that were born here? I could clearly understand why they wouldn't be. My mom is from Japan and my wife from Italy. Both of them were more aware of classic movies from their own countries then they were with American classics. Of course since TCM is often one in my house my wife really enjoys classic American movies now. But she does have some problems with classic English movies due to the accents and Amercan movies of the 30s because they often talk too fast!
Either way I question if future generations will be as interested in movies from the studio era as we (say people between the ages of 30 - 60), are today. Just look at jazz music from the 50s (the classic era of jazz in my view). Very, very few people listen to this music on any regular basis or even younger artist playing in a classic jazz style. If they listen to jazz at all it is soft jazz. There use to be a few for profit jazz stations. There are now very few and here in LA OC area of CA none.

Eve is Mason's girlfriend. He doesn't know she is a spy. So of course when you find out your girlfriend made love to another man, it would be a surprise.

One logical reason for any station to make changes is to attract more viewers. So while some (and I'm one) may wish TCM to stick to movies from the studio era (say pre-1968) there may not be enough of us to keep TCM in business.
For example, I'm a fan of the Food Network but lately a lot of their shows stress overeating and unhealthy meals. I'm a healthly eater and I would like more shows about healthly means and cooking vegertarian meals. Instead I get guys (typically fat ones), were all they do is stuff a 2 pound burger in their face. The Food Network use to have some of these healthly eating shows. I assumed they dropped them for lack of interest since American love being obese.
So we just have to live with the fact that TCM might have to broaden their appeal by making changes and that might me more post 1968 movies.

",,,who has been trying for years to get people to listen to his story".
I find it hard to believe no one would listen to someone related to her death. I have to agree with Hibi; Nothing new is going to happen and this story will die out. It will come back only when some other type of event happens; e.g. R.W. dies,
This is just the media trying to sell so called news, and the DA and police here in LA being too into Hollywood. Very unprofessional in my view for the Police to even have a news conference. They just want to get on TV.

Have you read the book Sisters - The Story of Olivia De Havilland & Joan Fontaine by Charles Higham ?
It contains some of the details but it was written in 1984 so it isn't up to date (but from my understanding not much has happen between them since then).
I also have both Every Frenchman Has One by Olivia and No Bed of Roses by Joan but these don't go much into the relationship between the two. Olivia book is mostly about living in France. It is a very interesting read.

Thanks for the inslightful info. I only remember reading about the scene when Navarro puts out the candle and that religious people were upset about it because it implies Navarro sells out his religious beliefs for sex. So at least MGM didn't cut out the blowing out of the candle in the re-release. To me that act is key to the power Mata Hari had on the guy (as well as men in general), and thus an important plot element. (verses say "Garbo appears in a completely see through negligee, it leaves nothing to the imagination....", which isn't necessary to the plot, but something I would love to see!

This is the type of movie that when you read about it, as a noir fan, one says to themselves: This has to be great! But sadly it is mostly a soap opera and not very noir.
But what a great cast. Lang should of played down the silly love affair between Andrews and instead had the gal as his spy. In other words have Andrews just use her to get the scoop on the Sanders character. As you say, adding just a few hard edges would of made this movie a lot better.

I also see no noir qualities in We're No Angels. Yea, there is a death but just because a camp comedy movies has a death that doesn't make it a noir movie. I also don't see much of a Christmas element here either.
Just because a movie has some noir icons doesn't make it even a slightly noir in my view. But hey I'll give people credit for trying to bring noir to the holiday season!

Nice to see that others are taking what I would define as a more enlighten view of Young's actions.
I don't view your post (or mine) as making excuses for her behavior but just trying to understand it and not judge it too harshly. As for not wishing to watch someone's movies because of their off screen behavior or political views I just don't understand that, especally a dead artist. i.e. It makes some sense to ban an alive artist since one may not wish to enrich said person.

If you have outlook you can set up 'tasks', that have a date they are 'due'.
I use this for work tasks but it could also be used to remind one of movies. One could also use the calendar feature used typically to set meetings to remind one of up and coming movies.
I use both of these features to remind me of CDs coming due, doctor appts, etc...

The LA Times had this as a lead story a few days ago. I was hoping someone would post the story here. Very interesting and impressive. Beauty and brains. What a combo!

Do you know who owns the rights to the history of those Browns? i.e. what team has the trophies and displays them?
The old Browns became the Ravens if my memory is correct while the Baltimore Colts moved to Indie. So I know that between these 3 teams who has the rights to what as it relates to the prior history has always been a mess.
This mess just increased with the Browns since (if my memory is right again), the Browns didn't even exist for a few years. Thus I assume the Raven owners took those trophies with them when they moved. Did they sell them to the new Brown owners?

I don't thing that is the case since VP didn't list Ford, Lang, McCarey, Kazan, or Huston etc..
But this does raise a topic I always find interesting; Those that love to pick a select group of favorites and those that don't (and thus provide a list of many, many selections).
I'm from the 'pick a select group' school. My view is more is communicate about an individuals tastes with a select group. i.e. what they pick and just as important, what they leave out.
When the list has many selections one really doesn't learn much about what really moves that person.
Of course then we have some people that just don't wish to pick any favorites. Hey, if we were asking them to rank their children I would understand! But hey, this is just the movies.

The scenes between Grahame and Mitchum are the best in the movie so I think you are on to something there. They have a noir type dirty feel to them and thus are interesting, but this is because these are two noir icons.

Isn't there another way to look at Young's action other than hypocrisy? That Young felt so guilty by her actions that she made the extra effort to push the values she herself failed at?
It isn't like Young repeated her mistake over and over again. i.e. had children out of wedlock multiple times. To be a hypocrite one has to have a pattern of behavior and I don't see that here.

Interesting...Natalie?

Yes, it does depend on the nature of the potential crime. In the Joe case one could say he didn't withhold information from the police since he did report it up the chain and thus it was the duty of someone else to report the info. This is the defense many on the lower rung of the chain will use (note: I"m not saying I'm buying this).
But that isn't the case with the death of Natalie. These so called new witinesses had to know at the time the police were interested in the case i.e. it had to be a major news story had the time.
Thus I see no logical explaination for why they wouldn't of come forward at that time. Well there is one logical reason why; They were not witinesses at the time and are now making it up.
