  1. Take a group of females...let's say 15-25, have them sit through a screening of EASTER PARADE...give them cards to fill out...make a question where they rate Judy with Fred and then Judy with Peter.

I bet you, I just bet you, they will respond more favorably to Judy and Peter. They want to see an attractive young couple together on film.

  2. scsu,

I have this feeling you got a lot of detention in school for clownish behavior. I like humor and I surely use humor, but we have to be clear...brace yourself...you really went overboard in that CASABLANCA thread. You basically hijacked it by turning it into a Marx Brothers convention. I really think you should start a separate thread on Rodney Dangerfield...put it in the Your Favorites forum. Then you can be as outlandish as you want to be, to your heart's content, and it will not interfere with a discussion about CASABLANCA.

  3. You are making it so this thread will surely get locked. You have contradicted yourself a few times, and that's a shame because I do want for you to win an argument one of these days.

Of course you remember what I said in the post you reported...just like I remember what is in the posts of yours that I report. You need to be honest. You like reporting me. Your goal is to get me banned. I have to live with you gunning for me on these boards, and it makes me uncomfortable...but I notate that in the posts of yours that I report to the WebAdmin. I explain in detail why I report posts of yours and why I find them objectionable. I am thorough and back it up with facts. But my goal is not to get you banned. We all should be able to learn from mistakes, and to continue posting about TCM and these great films.

I don't find scsu's posts fun...I find some of them in poor taste and mostly annoying.

And you are using this thread to definitely respond to a PM from me. You are just turning it into group therapy.

  4. It's become a problem because jealousy is bringing negative emotions to the surface. It's low-class behavior and bad form. Enlightenment and medication may help people deal with their aggressive actions on these boards. Till then, we have to deal with adults acting like third graders. But I guess if people want to focus on who does the original posting (because they have to win, they just have to win) instead of focusing on TCM's great offerings, the beginnings of a board war will turn into something more acrimonious.

  5. I think you are proving that you have been stalking me and keeping a file on what I write. Do I interest you that much? That's creepy.

Are you jealous of others who post more hours than you do? Weird.

You fail to include scsu's two or three previous posts to me which led to my response. We surely cannot say scsu was very friendly to me...but it's convenient for you to overlook that fact, because once again you are fixated on me.

You have stated in a thread about a week ago that you do not read your PMs....so now you have backtracked on that. I am glad you posted to everyone what I wrote to you. My prayer is maybe it will help you reflect properly and get help if you need it.

Please stop going after me on these boards...it's odd and it does support my belief that you may be unstable. I wish the best for everyone. Thanks.

  6. I think this thread needs to be locked.

A clever person could make threads for each month till June 2011...what's to stop them?

Also, you will see that I have found a way around this problem with my highlights thread. LOL

Everyone should do their own highlights thread...tell us what films you are eager about in an upcoming month.

But to take the (drum roll) JUNE Schedule or JULY Schedule and monopolize it like it's e-real estate is just wrong...it's bad form, cookie.

  7. It's because I'm fairly new on these boards. Some of them have histories with you guys and they see fit to warn me. I find it amusing and also a serious problem.

I guess I was naive that our love for classic films would overrule petty differences. We're human. We all have individual quirks and personality traits. Can't we just accept and live and let live with each other? LOL

I think Holly was referring to the fact that people only like to comment on threads of posters they like, instead of going on a topic-by-topic basis.

  8. If you look at my post from March 23, 12:37 a.m., you will see that I did not write that...I was quoting it from one of Holly's earlier posts. It looks like she edited the post and deleted that comment.

I did not write that...I was merely replying to it. So ask her.

JF, remember that I get people that Private Message me telling me that you and pat are trolls. So I think it wise to cease direct communication. Experience has taught me that pat gets snarky and you bait...if I believed that there would be productive communication with either of you, I'd be all for it. That is not even a remote possibility, unfortunately.

Again, take up your concerns with Holly. Sorry and best regards.

  9. You reported it because you are upset that Holly's post was a reference to you. You probably reported that one too.

I edited my post, because I think it was redundant...it still retains the original edge with the way I have edited it.

I know you haven't been feeling well these past few weeks...wishes for your speedy recovery.

  10. Oh my...we really went off track, casting a remake. LOL

I think the film should definitely be remade, because it's a good business move and it will help create awareness among young moviegoers about the original with the inevitable comparisons.

Now, I would like to see some more legitimate comments about CASABLANCA as a product of 1942...the humor helps keep the conversation light, but this is not a Marx Brothers review of a classic film.

  11. You may find more people to discuss this film with you over on the IMDB page for BLUE SKY. Maybe it's too recent to be regarded as a classic yet at TCM...although it does have some good actors and perhaps a classic performance from Lange.

One hopeful sign is that when Orion folded, this film got picked up by MGM. And since TCM has access to the MGM library (I don't know about recent titles)...chances are BLUE SKY will air on TCM one evening.

  12. It's understandable...you were frustrated and trying to figure out why she was in those movies. Probably a lot of her casting did have to do with her husband's power in show biz. Her career in movies ends when she and Jolson divorce...but maybe she wanted to concentrate on motherhood. It's not like she never worked again. To do over 800 perfofmances in Broadway (years later) indicates she was not a fluke.

Maybe someday you will reverse your opinion of Ruby. I did send a Ruby for President bumper sticker over to you. I hope you don't toss it away. There are also some extra balloons, buttons and banners if you would like any.

    Sincerely,

    Ima Starr

    Campaign Manager

  13. The only problem seems to arise, apparently, when they become upset because there are topics in which they'd like to participate but they do not want to abandon their own rule of thumb about not posting in threads unless the thread was started by their friend(s).

    Well, that's too bad...

  14. It appears as if a lot of burrs are in the fur, and we have to comb this puppy out real carefully.

A western does endorse a more conservative ideology. If it doesn't, then it's a noir western or an art film, and not a traditional commercial western.

Many people on the extreme right would look at the blacklist as being necessary to root out the liberals in Hollywood. Clearly, you do not understand what triggered the blacklist and what prompted McCarthy to take action.

  15. Filed Under: *JOAN CRAWFORD NOIR*

    Today's Picks: *MILDRED PIERCE (1945)* & *SUDDEN FEAR (1952)*

    MildredPierce.jpg

Mildred Pierce is a noirish tale about a long-suffering mother and her ungrateful daughter. Joan Crawford plays the mother and Ann Blyth is the daughter, in her first important screen role. Crawford earned raves for her work in this film and was awarded an Oscar. The story comes from a novel by James M. Cain.

    200px-Sudden_fear-1.jpg

Sudden Fear stars Joan Crawford and Jack Palance in a story about a successful woman who marries a murderous man. The screenplay is based upon the novel by Edna Sherry. When the film was released, a New York Times reviewer said that Crawford had given a truly professional performance. In 1984, another reviewer called the film: 'Undoubtedly one of the most stylish and refined woman-in-distress noirs.'

  16. It would be a coup to get her and turn her into an actress.

The Sam role is the most problematic in terms of casting.

Do you go with Jamie Foxx or Ice Cube LOL Or do you change the ethnicity entirely...or make it a female Sam and put Queen Latifah in the part? LOL

  17. The fact that we don't know much about Sam's origins proves my point that we do not know enough about the background of these characters...how they all came to be here at Cafe Americain. These characters are underdeveloped.

I am sure a film could be done, and done well, with Olde English. You're not using your imagination.

  18. You're getting confused.

You are trying to apply cultural relativism on to this discussion. You cannot say that what one person considers conservative another person might see as liberal. That's hogwash and an insane thing to say. There are absolutes.

For you to say that we cannot ascribe a political status on to a film is also crazy. People with a certain political persuasion will buy films with their values reflected in them more than ones that seem absent of those qualities. I am sorry you don't realize or see that. How sad.

It is time for films to take sides again. It is perfectly alright for a film to actively endorse a Republican way of life.
