  1. Houdini died of peritonitis resulting from appendicitis

    in Detroit, Michigan,

at Grace Hospital in room 401

    at 1:26 P.M. on October 31, 1926, Halloween.

I trained in that hospital back in the late seventies before it was torn down to make way for a parking structure. The Old Grace Hospital, which was affiliated with Wayne State University, had a facade like the Munster's house. Room 401 was a small room at the top floor on the west side of the hospital looking out towards Woodward Ave. It was well-known that Houdini died in it and at night they say you can hear noises coming from inside, but I don't remember any patients asking to be transferred out of the room though...

  2. Ok, Metz...Moe was performing on stage with Ted Healy when he spotted Shemp in the audience. Moe called to him and Shemp supposedly yelled back and walked on to the stage and became a member of "Ted Healy And His Stooges." ... (I suppose it's possible that Moe and Shemp arranged everything beforehand.)...Your turn.

  3. Eddie Dean is correct...He was one of the singing cowboys of the forties. He wasn't very handsome, but he sings...I think the best singing cowboy voice belongs to Rex Allen . But except for a very few, many of the songs he picked weren't very good.

    Your thread Leanox

  4. Thanks...

This performer was doing vaudeville on stage when he saw his brother in the audience. He called to him and the quick-witted brother called back and walked on to the stage. The brother then became part of the routine...Who were the brothers and what was the act ?....

  5. Of course.... There is a story, according to IMDB, that actor Jan Merlin reportedly played several of the alleged star cameos in the movie (including Kirk Douglas and Robert Mitchum); according to Merlin, the big-name actors never appeared in the film proper and only shot close-ups for an epilogue peeling off their heavy make-up.

Also from IMDB, according to some reports, Frank Sinatra's heavily disguised cameo appearance in film was actually the work of facially similar actor Dave Willock; Sinatra only appeared at end of the film in unmasking sequence where he peeled off makeup.
