Montimer Brewster(Cary Grant)is a well to do author about to marry his true love,Elaine Harper(Prscilla Lane)He has the best aunts in the world,Abby(Josephine Hull)and Martha(Jean Adir).His only problem is his older brother,Teddy(John Alexander)thinks hes Trddy Roosevelt.
Returning from his wedding,Montimer finds a body in the window seat and he suspects Teddy.His aunts tell him they poisned THe Gentleman because he was lonesome.Whats more theres eleven more Gentlemen buried in the basement.
Montimer understands his family is insane and its only a matter of time before he goes insane.To make matters worse,Montimers other brother,Jonathan(Raymond Massey)a disfigured maniac, returns home with another Gentleman.

China 1945.A tough Marine Captain Matt Reardon(Edmond OBrien) and his men are on a mission,to find a wounded Japanese admiral(Philip Ahn)Also sent on the mission are two doctors,Bert Thompson(Barry Sullivan)and Ellen Wilkins(Jocelyn Brando)much to Matts anger feeling they will be little use.
The unit has their problems with Japanese troops and greedy Chinese guerrillas.
Pretty good War Film.

A small jazz band,Jigger(Richard Whorf),Character(Priscilla Lane),Peppi(Billy Halop)Leo(Jack Carson)Pete(Peter Whitney)and Nick(Elia Kazan)are traveling across the country in a boxcar looking for work.At a stop,Del Davis(Llyod Nolan)a gangster and escaped convict comes aboard.Davis holds them up.When the band doesnt turn him in,Davis takes a liking to them and tells them to meet him at a small rundown nightclub outside New Jersey.
Once there, Davis introduces then to his partner,Sam(Howard Da Silva)and Davis mistress,Kay(Betty Field)a cruel tramp who gets a delight in helping people get to the top and then sees them fall down.Davis wants nothing more to do with her and shes turns to Jigger whos falling for her.Brad(Walace Ford)once a big ranch owner and a rodeo rider,now down and out because of Kay warns Jigger against Kay,but he laughs it off and leaves the group with Kay to join a big name band.Jigger hits the top,but Kay soon gets tired of him and gleefully tells him their through.Jigger turns to drink and hits bottom.
Leo,Character,and the others find Jigger and helps him recover.Jigger returns to Dels and once again hits the top,but the evil Kay once again comes into his life.

Woodrow Truesmith(Eddie Bracken)is an exMarine who was discharged because of hayfever.A group of Marines led by SGT Heppelfinger(William Demarest)meet Woodrow in a bar and find him disappointed because he was turned down.Woodrow tells them his father was a WW1 hero.SGT Hepplefinger gives Woodrow a uniform and goes home with him where Woodrow is welcomed back as a hero.Woodrows mother(Georgia Caine)and his girl,Libby(Ella Raines)are proud because he lived up to a family tradition.Woodrow is ashamed,but goes along with it all.
The towns crooked mayor(Raymond Walburn)finds out the truth about Woodrow and plans to make it public when the town wants Woodrow to run for his job.
Great Preston Sturges Film.

Kid Galahad and King Creole are two different films.This was Elvis last Black and White film.The others were Love Me Tender and Jailhouse Rock.(They corized Jailhouse Rock.They should have left it alone)

Reprter Katie Connors lands in a small out of the way town in South America to find Hemingway type author Mike Latimer(Richard Widmark)After Katie meets Mike they fall for each other.Katie must return to New York and Mike offers to fly her to the nearest airport.On the way they have problems and the plane lands.
They meet a mysterious MR Browne(Trevor Howard)who takes them to his home.Also there is DR Van Anders(Peter Van Eyck)Suspicious Mike investigates and finds Browne was an English turncoat during WW2 and Van Anders is a wanted nazi murderer.
Great adventure film.

Pretty good film about a grasshopper(Hoppity)who returns to his hometown of Buggville and saves his true love,Honey The Bee from the evil MR Beetle.
Sadly when this film came out it got sunk at Pearl Harbor.People had more important things on their minds than a cartoon and it got little attention.In the years after WW2 it did better.
Good Frank Losser/Hoagy Carmichael score.Songs Were The Couple In The Castle and Boy,Oh Boy are standouts.

A gang rob a bank and hide out in a garage where the money is stashed in their car.At a roadblock the police identify one of the gangsters and in the escape the gang is killed and the car is burned.The police cant find the loot still in the car.
A wisecracking detective,Tom Dwyer(Don Red Barry)wants to recover the money and get the reward.He has a number of suspects who could know where the money is,Sheila Kennedy(Ann Savage)who pretends to be in love with Tom,Wires MacQuire(Sheldon Leonard)a mobster and killer,Wires henchman(Ben Weldon),Ferra(Nestor Paiva)who bought the car,Bonnie(Adele Mara)an old flame of Toms,and LT Blake(Harry Shannon)

New York.1920s.Three talented girls Sheila Reagan(Lana Turner),Susan Gallager(Judy Garland)and Sandra Kalter(Hedy Lamar)are discovered by Ziegfield and hit the top,but they all have problems.
Sheila and Gilbert Young(James Stewart)are in love,but he cant take her sucess.He joins a bootlegging gang and winds up in jail.Sheila soon turns to drink.
Susan and her dad(Charles Winsinger)are a team,but Ziegfields managers,John Slayton(Paul Kelly)and Noble Sage(Edward Everett Horton)want her,not her dad who they feel has little talent.Susan meets Sheilas brother Jerry(Jackie Cooper)and they fall in love,but Jerry also wants to make it on his own.
Sandra and her husband,Franz Kolter(Philip Dorn)a talented musician,,break up even though their in love when she refuses to quit.
All three girls have their problems.

1866,Dodge City is being run by notorious outlaw Jeff Surrett(Bruce Cabot)and his two top gunmen,Yancey(Victor Jory)and Munger(Douglas Fowley)Most of the towns citzen except for DR Iving(Henry Travers)and newspaper editor Joe Clemens(Frank McHugh)are afraid to stand up to Surrett and his gang.After an honest cattleman is killed Joe publishes an article against Surrett, but is beaten by Yancey and warned not to print anymore anti Surrett articles.
Coming into Dodge from a cattle drive is Wade Hatton(Errol Flynn)and his two sidekicks,Rusty(Alan Hale)and Tex(Guinn Big Boy Williams)Along with them is Abby Irving(Olivia De Havilland)and her drunken brother,Lee(William Lundigan)Abby and Wade are falling in love,but after Wade has a run in with Lee and Wade has to shoot him in self defense,Abby is through with Wade.
Wade finds that Abby is DR Irvings neice.The Doctor understands why Wade had to shoot Lee,but Abby still wants Wade to avoid her.
After Wade rescues Rusty from a lynch mob stated by Surrett,DR Irving and Clemens decide Wade should be sheriff and help rid the town of Surrett.Wade refuses,but after a boy(Bob Watson)is senselessly killed in the crossfire of one of Surretts gangs,Wade agrees.Its up to Wade,Rusty,and Tex to bring law and order to Dodge City.
GREAT WESTERN.Another reson why a lot of people believe 1939 was Hollywoods Golden Year.
Ann Sheridan was wasted in the part of Surretts mistress.

Sleep,My Love(1948)Allison Courtland(Claudette Colbert)is a rich women from a well to do family.Her husband Richard(Don Ameche)is a no good cheater with little love for Alliison and is having an affair with slutty model Daphne(Hazel Brooks)Daphnes boss, Charles Vernry(George Coulouris)and his wife Grace(Quennie Smith)are working with Richard.Richards plan is to get rid of Allison,get her money,and marry Daphne.
Richard tells Allison shes going mad and tells her Charles is a doctor.
Through a friend Allison meets Bruce Elliott(Robert Cummings)who soon suspects Richard,Charles,and Daphne are out to kill Allison.
Great Film Noir as good as it gets.DONT MISS.

Brad Durham(George Raft)a flyer for the black market takes off from a small base in Southeast Asia with a load of cargo and the police in hot pursuit.After a narrow escape he lands outside Shanghai with Ramon Perez(Marvin Miller)whos the co between for the boss, is waiting.Brad angry after being shot at and almost killed demands more money.Ramon tells him he must take it up with the boss.In charge is White Russian Tamara Baranoff(June Havoc)Tamara decides to make Brad a partner.Ramon angrily quits and joins Tamaras rival,Kardidian(Dan Seymour)
Brad returns to his hotel and finds the last of his WW2 bomber crew dead.All in the crew were thrown out of the service because they were falsely accused of being involved in the Black Market.
The dead mans sister,Linda Parker(Helena Carter)a missionary working with homeless war orphans going hungry because of the Black Market, goes to Brad to find out about her brother.Brad,involved in the Black Market is little help.
Brad changes his mind when he visits the orphans and is shocked by the children going without food.Brad and Linda are falling in love much to the anger of Tamara.
An old friend of Brads,Marc Andrews(Tom Tully)
is a reporter doing stories on the Market.Tamara and Kardidian want Marc stopped.
Note June Havoc was the sister of Gypsy Rose Lee.

Tokyo 1942.Shortly after the Doolittle Raid.A bomber crew,Capt Harvey Ross(Dana Andrews),LT Cannelli(Richard Conte),LT Greenbaum(Sam Levene),SGT Clinton(Farley Granger),SGT Jan Skvoznik(KevinOShea),LT Vincent(Don Red Barry),LT Wayne Batfourth(Charles Russell)and SGT Martin Stoner(John Craven)are put on trial by the Japanese and the Axis press for war crimes which they did not commit during the raid.
Gen Mitsubi(Richard Loo)in charge,wants to find out where the crew took off from,China,Russia,or an aircraft carrier.When the crew refuses to tell each one is put through tortures and humilations.
Good scene when Ross is asleep and dreaming of the aircraft carrier,The Hornet and mumbles in his sleep.Ross wakes and finds GEN Mitsubi looking at him and the Gen grins as he walks away.
Keep an eye out for Anne Baxter.

Steve Williams(John Wayne)is an exfootball coach living with his 11 year old daughter,Carol(Sherry Jackson)Steves ex Anne(Marie Windsor)is a selfish tramp with little use for the child.
A Catholic college,ST Anthonys run by Father Burke(Charles Coburn)is about to be closed because its in debt.The priest hires Steve to help the football team.At first Steve refuses,but needing the money to keep Carol away from Anne,he at last agrees.
Child social worker Alice Singleton(Donna Reed)believes Carol would be better off with her mother knowing little about Anne.
Its up to Steve to save the school,keep Carol,and win over Alice who hes slowly falling for.

1940.After the fall of France.A group of French soildiers,Paul(Jean Pierre Aumont)a lawyer,Victor(Gene Kelly)a cab driver,Father Sebastian(Cedric Haedwicke),Francois(Richard Whorf)a doctor,Rodriquez(Joseph Calleia)a Spanish Civil War vet,Pierre(Wallace Ford)a WW1 vet,Jacques(Jack Lambert)a gambler,and Duval(Hume Cronyn)a wine seller are rounded up and put on a train where the nazis tell them they are being sent home.The nazis have no intention of keeping their promise and instead are sent to a brutal German POW camp.
In charge of the POWS is SGT Burger(Peter Lorre)a sadist who takes delight in causing the POWs misery.Duval soon goes over to the Germans much to the anger of the others.
Duval causes the murder of Father Sebastian and is killed by the others.
After months of beatings,starvation,and abuse,Paul has a plan for a mass escape,but he has to pretend to become an informer in order to do it.
Great War Film with a First Rate Clast.
Gene takes off his dancing shoes again to play Victor,a nazi hating French patriot.

Kansas 1861,Bob Seton(John Wayne)and his partner Doc Grunch(George Gabby Hayes)ride into town.Bob meets Mary McCloud(Claire Trevor)daughter of wealthy banker(Porter Hall)Marys brother Fletch(Roy Rogers)and Bob become friends.Bob wants to marry Mary,but shes engaged to William Cantrell(Walter Pidgeon)the towns schoolteacher.Cantrell takes an instant dislike to Bob.
Soon the Civil War breaks out and Cantrell forms a gang of looters and murders disguised as Confederate soildiers.Mary and Fletch join Cantrell,but Bob wants no part of it and is disgusted with the gang.
Bob is soon picked up by Cantrells men and finds Fletch and Mary want to quit the gang.Bob has a plan of escaping with them when he finds Cantell is planing to burn and loot the town.
This is one Great Western.John wayne at his BEST.

Illegal Entry(1949)A brutal gang is flying in EXConcentration camp survivors into the US.The head of the gang running a transportation service as a front is Nick Gruber(Tom Tully)Theres a MR Big on the other side of the border.
FBI agent Dan Collins(George Brent)asks Ex WW2 ace, Burt Powers(Howard Duff)to get into the mob and help smash it and also find out who MR Big is.Burt at first refuses, but after meeting the wife,Anna Duvak(Marta Toren)of an old flyer buddy who was killed during the war,Burt agrees.Anna is being forced to work for the gang because they flew in her brother,Stefan(Eric Feldary)
Burt joins the gang and finds MR Big is depoerted mob czar,Dutch Lempo(Richard Rober)whos in love with Anna.
Feeling hes destroying Annas life,Stefan commits suicide and Anna is through with the mob.Lempo demands to be flown back into the country to make up with Anna and Burt and the mobs ace pilot,Zack Richards(Paul Stewart)are sent to get him.Burt alerts Collins,but on the way back in, Richards gets word that Burts working for the FBI.

Alva P Hartley(Arthur Space)is a rich,but eccentric inventor who builds a powerful bomb called The Big Noise to help the Allies win the war.
Alva hires two detectives,Stan(Stan Laurel)and Ollie(Oliver Hardy)to guard it till he can get it to Washington.A gang(Philip Van Zandt,Vera Ann Borg,etc)are out to get the bomb and sell it to the Axis.
Its up to Stan and Ollie to save the day.
This film gets a bad rap.Some people think its not very good,but this was the first Laurel and Hardy film I ever saw and enjoyed it very much.
Very funny scene when Alva serves a meal of the future,a Turkey dinner made out of vitamins.Another good scene when Alvas homicidal aunt(Easter Howard)falls for Ollie and he for her,but Grandpa(Robert Dudley)warns Stan all her past husbands were murdered.Bobby Blake is on hand as Alvas mischief making son.
