Paris 1938.DR Ravic(Charles Boyer)is a German exconcentration camp victim who escaped and is now living in Paris.His one desire is to get revenge against SS Col Ivon Haake(Charles Laughton)who murdered Ravics partner in the underground(Hazel Brooks). Ravic looks out a window in a cafe and sees Haake,but by the time he gets out Haake is lost in the crowd. Ravic meets Joan Madou(Ingrid Bergman)a streetwalker trying to break off a relationship with an American tourist she left sick in a hotel.When they arive,the man has died.Feeling sorry for Joan,Ravic gets her a job in a nightclub as a singer through the help of his friend,Col Boris Morosov(Louis Calhern)an ex Czarist officer and a refuge from Stalinist Russia. Joan meets well to do Alex (Stephen Bekassy)but she is in love with Ravic. Ravic is still out to find Haake whos still in Paris. Great Film Note Keep an eye out for William Conrad(Bit) Theres a four hour version somewhere.The version out now is only 133 minutes. I think they mess them up.In Suddeny,Frank Sinatra has brown eyes.(Old Brown Eyes is back) The worst ones I think are the Film Noirs.(Blue Skies in the Maltese Falcon?No,I dont think so) However,The Sea Hawk should have been in color from the start.(The original plan was to do it in color) What do you think? Great Film.One of my Favorite Gary Cooper films.Problem is Warners wouldnt let the real ending be released. 1Ending one,Gary gets an atomic scientist away from the Axis and flies home. 2Ending two,The scientists dies and Cooper finds a picture of the Axis atomic plant.The plant is deserted and he walks out and sees advancing American troops and says,This is year one of the Atomic age. Sadly,two was canned.I understand Dir Fritz Lang was not very happy. Parts of the film dont make sense,Garys co star Lili Palmer says,The Allied troops are only a few weeks away.(What troops?)Doesnt make sense with the last reel cut. Great fight scene Coop has with nazi agent,Marc Lawrence.(Im glad they didnt cut that)

1947s Fabulous Texan is never on.Great Western.My favorite Bill Elliott film.John Carroll steals the show as he did in Flying Tigers(1942) Theres a not so good VHS copy around.It would be nice if someone could clean it up and put it out on DVD.

The Maltese Falcon was John Hustons first film.In This Our Life Was his second.As a favor to John,the cast of the Falcon have bits.Walter Huston and Lee Patrick are easy to catch.Bogie and the rest,not so easy.HAPPY HUNTING.
