Folsom Prison warden,Ben Rickey(Ted De Corsia)is a sadistic brute who takes pleasure in causing the convicts misery.After a revolt,led by convict,Jeff Riordan(Paul Picerni)is brutally put down and many convicts and guards are stupidly killed,a reporter,Jim Frazier(Scott Forbes)looks into things and is shocked by the poor conditions. A new head guard,Mark Benson(David Brian)is called in.Rickey dislikes Mark,but lets him remain. Head convict,Chuck Daniels(Steve Cochran)a lifer,is planning an escape,but goes along with Mark. Soon a well liked convict,Red Pardue(Philip Carey)is killed and trouble starts.Rickey is in charge again.Having no choice,Daniels goes through with his plan for a mass escape. Great Film.
