  1. My favorites for Edmund O'Brien are DOA and Two of a Kind  with Lizabeth Scott.  Although he does very well in just about all his movies I have seen.  Did watch 711 Ocean Drive today, but had seen it before.

He had a very interesting role in They Only Kill Their Masters as the liquor store owner.

  2. It's vetted, but it make take time to vet new entries, so it's not instantaneous. I also believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that they leave notations beside new entries saying that sources and citations are pending and unverified.

Not really vetted or maybe it is now.  A few years ago a local merchant bragged about making an entry re: our town being a retirement community.  It is anything but, so I went in and took it off.  His entry had been there for a while according to him.  His entry had no notation as to source nor source about me taking it off.

  3. Wikipedia says the exact same thing you have here:

I just didn't use that section since I understood the question to be:  Did she HAVE an abortion performed by Dr. Swain?  ( and not if she ASKED for one).

Yes,  she ASKED for one,  but he refused and later on she had a miscarriage which the Doctor covered up.

OK, I just watched the scene and stand corrected.  After the procedure, Nolan very softly says "Unofficially this is a miscarriage."  Then he says the part about officially it's an appendectomy.  You have to be paying attention and listen carefully when he says miscarriage.

  4. From TCM Full Synopsis:

Ted escorts Selena home, and after he leaves, the lecherous, drunken Lucas rapes her. Following graduation, Selena discovers that she is pregnant and turns to Dr. Mathew Swain, the kindly town physician, for an abortion.

While I often refer to Wikipedia, have to take it with a grain of salt.  After all it is written and changed by anyone who wishes to do so.  I have gone in and changed entries made by someone else myself.

  5. Would be difficult to determine what a "Labor Day" movie is.  Many (most?) movies feature workers of some kind.

Labor Day was actually created to advance labor unions and the people who should be unionized. Also to advance the 8 hour day, 40 hour week, etc.

Perhaps a fitting movie day would be movies featuring labor's struggles, such as Norma Rae.

Ironically, most "laborers" have to work on Labor Day.

  6. I haven't signed up yet and am hoping they'll work out the glitches soon. But it is disappointing to not be able to receive the guide in print. That would just make life easier and be so much better than another email newsletter; if anything I've been unsubscribing from lists because I don't want more - I want less. I hope this will all be reconsidered.

I wrote a letter to the TCM CEO a couple of months ago, but no response.

You could write to the below address and see if that helps.  I did a week or so ago.  You can also go to the contact us link at tcm.com, but do not expect any answer.

  7. I was hoping that someone could help me.

I was a longtime subscriber to the TCM Now Playing magazine, and I subscribed to the new email version last May. But I never received it. And from what I understand, this new email version started last month in August, maybe even July?

I subscribed to it again a couple of days ago, but I still have received nothing. This is very frustrating.

Can somebody tell me what month the new Now Playing email started?

Also, is there any way to get back issues?

Would someone forward me a copy of theirs?

There are two threads about this under General Discussions.  Below is one of them.

  8. In case anyone is interested:  Using Firefox browser, I clicked Print from the menu, and first it brings up the print dialog box.  From that box there is a list of printers I can choose to print from.  My printer is in there and selected, but there is also another choice which says "Print To File".  I selected that option, filename to name it, and made sure PDF was selected.  That was enough to generate that file.  The file will be where you saved it.

There may be a similar feature with other internet browsers.

I did find a way to save it as a PDF file by going through about 10+ steps.  Any other method of saving required purchasing something. Then set-up print in my Canon MG3500 printer, but it is now 79 pages long with lots of space around each entry, mostly in colors.

Found a way to convert it to a Word document, but that expanded it to 89 pages with no change in lots of colored spaces.

Trying to save it as a PDF document or download any other way brought up boxes to purchase something to enable doing it.

Thanks for the help, but I am giving up at this point.  Maybe someday TCM will figure out how to email a user friendly (less costly) schedule.

  9. We purchased one of those recently! It was a choice between: $46 for black ink cartridge for existing printer or: $44 for new printer. We like it very much as it is faster and quieter than previous ink jet printer and the print quality is quite nice. We use ink jet only when we want quick printing and do not need very fine detail of laser as it is faster than laser when printing less than four pages.

I do not know why many people appear to be ashamed of buying electronics at Wal-Mart. Ink jet printers and many other such things are virtually consumables and so buying at the proper price point is important. Many items which they sell are full-model units such as one would purchase at any place and are not made-for-Wal-Mart sub-models. Our Roku is precisely the same as if we purchased it directly from Roku and was $22 less expensive than at any electronics store in the area. We have a model-made-for-Wal-Mart television in the workroom. It was 30% cheaper than similar-sized full-model from any other store. It has fulfilled the need for more than four years now. A recent test revealed that it has zero dead pixels.

I have been familiar with Wal-Mart since the 1970's.  Would never purchase electronics there - or food or medicine.

  10. My printer is just an inexpensive Canon Pixma from Walmart.  I got it because it is compatible with my operating system.  I'd have to plug it in but I seem to recall it having at least two different B&W print settings.  One includes half-tones and semi-tones, and the other blanks them out (perhaps useful for removing marks and smudges from scanned in documents??).  Not sure, maybe yours thinks the lighter colored text is unwanted, and maybe that is something that can be disabled.

    Thanks, will try that.

  11. I forget if I suggested saving it to a PDF file, and then printing from that PDF file.

I have done the first part for you.  See what happens with this:

    http://moviecollector.us/tmp/mozilla.pdf

    Really appreciate your help!

Did go to your link and that worked.  The preview shows everything as it should be.

I went to the tcm.com/monthly schedule and saved it.  Automatically saves as a Word doc even if I save as a download and when I try to convert to PDF, get a box saying I need to purchase something to do that.   So will continue to print without getting the actors included.  Can always use the information button on my cable remote to get that info.

Actually may just go back to using the onscreen info provided by cable system.

It is 11:17 ET, Sep 02 and just checked my email and spam again.  Nothing.  Always check my spam folder before deleting it.

  12. I used the monthly schedule at tcm.com which says it is "Now Playing Guide"  in order to do a test print. Learned that my printer will do two sided if I just click a "button" for it.

However, if you do B&W only, you cannot read the Day and Date.

Also, the director and stars will not print.  As I noted earlier when I did a preview for my printer, this happened even if I selected color.

I tried to copy and past to word and print from that, but it adds a lot of gibberish to the document.

As for getting it earlier, I would send a printed letter to the TCM mailing address I listed earlier.  I have already done this.

  13. Totally unscientific, but appears from posts here that more people have NOT received them than have received them.

Pretty poor performance for something in the planning for months.

Still have not received mine, although I do receive email notifications of posts to which I have requested notification.

  14. Anderson was recently seen on Slim Pickens' SUTS Day (Mon., Aug. 28) in "The Honkers".  He vies for Lois Nettleton's affections with James Coburn.

Two guys who remained skinny their entire careers.

Watched The Honkers the other day.

Always enjoy Anderson in his roles, but never a fan of Bionic Woman or Six Dollar Man.

  15. As of 10:13 ET, Sep. 01 I have not received the email NPG and I did check my spam folder, which goes back two days.  I check it before deleting.

I did receive my refund check this morning.

Logged on to tcm.com and clicked on monthly schedule.  Banner says Sept, but listings are for August.

Just signed up for the email NPG for about the fourth time.

Update:  I called TCM (800-826-1002).  They are having problems with the "download."  Also said they are fixing the monthly schedule on the site.

She verified I am in the system by name.

  16. I still have not received the September issue email and can't find a TCM email address to inquire about it.  I actually got the August edition email on Aug 15, though I already had the print edition.  I hope that's not the schedule they're on!

I have not received the Sept. email issue either (nor a refund).

There is an email link if you go to tcm.com, go to bottom of page and click on "Contact Us."  However, my experience as recently as one week ago is that if you mention Now Playing, they will respond with a link to subscribe to the defunct print version.  Even if you categorize contact as General.

If you search around the contact us site, there is a phone number, but don't expect anything as they have no idea what is going on.

This is the address if you wish to send a letter.  I sent one last week with my phone number, but no response yet.

  17. Great!! :D

Just went to see what printed version would look like and then to see if I could manipulate printing. When I viewed the print version before even trying anything, the names of the director and stars were absent.  Tried it both ways - same result.  It may be because they are light blue one month and light gray on another rather than black?  I checked my printer dialogue box and it shows color selected.

  18. No, there is no way to change it from there.  The TCM website link for the current month can not be substituted to a different month by hand as we are talking about here, it is a single-ended URL that only works on the current month.  A shortcoming of the website.

There is no such thing as a "changeable" monthly schedule.  The monthly schedule has no menu or links to get to future months.  You can only view the current month (ie. the month of August during the month of August) using the menus and links on their website.

Due to a different URL format that future months use (which is nowhere to be found on their website), all future months need to be entered by hand (or copied and pasted in from a text document), exactly as shown.

Yes.  You would need to manually copy and paste it into your browser and then change it by hand like that every single time.  I save mine in a text document and change it from there.

Not at all.  I just wanted to make sure it all worked out for you.  It seemed to be a simple misunderstanding, but I just didn't know where.

Thanks again.  I think I have it.  I saved it as a favorite site.  Not sure what a text document is.  You would think TCM could make it simpler, but then again - it's free (sort of).

  19. Let's approach this from a different angle.  Click on each of these links and look at the first three movies for each one.  Notice each link brings up a different set of movies.

    August

    September

    October

    November

    http://www.tcm.com/schedule/monthly.html?sdate=2017-11-01

Agreed that those work, but I cannot access those links through the tcm.com schedules.  When I click on monthly at tcm.com, it brings up August and there is no way to make it change.

How would I save the link you use to get to a changeable monthly schedule?  I did copy one of them to my browser and then changed the month and it worked.  Is that how to do it?

Sorry to be such a pain, but this really has become quite confusing and I forsee problems with the NPG email versions.

  20. Hi, you're welcome.  The premieres are in Mr. 6666's TCM Premieres thread.  If you want you can click on the link below in my signature area for other things related to the scheduling.

Finally figured out that if I click on Daily or Weekly and then move the calendar to next month and click on 1st day (or any day), it brings up that day or week in the next month.

Unfortunately when you expand for descriptions, it may also open up a Leonard Maltin review that is longer than the movie description AND an ad for buying the DVD.

The monthly calendar is still the Now Playing one for August and can't figure out how to change that.
