Is there a right way to complain about TCM?
Janet0312 replied to TopBilled's topic in General Discussions
I don't know if there's a right way or a wrong way to complain. But I do know that I'm so fed up with the same old same old on TV, I went and bought a few sets of Charlie Chan DVDs and the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes collection. -
>Why is Robert Mitchum ironing money in "His Kind of Woman"? You have an issue with this?

who else does not care to see newer movies on TCM?
Janet0312 replied to asphalt55's topic in General Discussions
>Today, my TV and satellite receiver have been off most of the day, because TCM has been showing mostly junky worthless un-classic 1960s and 70s films, which I avoided seeing back in the 60s and 70s, and I certainly am not going to watch them now or pay to watch them now. I haven't watched TCM all week! -
Holy cow! is this stamp available now???

This is a Fox network I recently discovered on Charter Cable. They play mostly 20th Century Fox stuff. They squeeze the movies so that they don't fit the screen, making the actors appear quite thin and unnatural. Do any of you have this channel and know why they do this to the films that they broadcast?

Hollywood has not made enough space melodramas
Janet0312 replied to FlyBackTransformer's topic in General Discussions
Why don't you watch Conquest of Space? Ain't more melodrama in any othe sci-fi movie than that little gem. -
I love the movies he made with Jackie Cooper. I have to steer clear of the ending of The Champ though. I bawl my head off every time.

I'm having the same issues. Fellas, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Audrey, I agree that a whole day of some actor or actress you DON'T like can be frustrating. Equally frustrating is a day of an actor/actress you DO like that features NONE of your favorite films they made. Sepiatone Most of your posts that I've stumbled upon, I usually agree with and figure that I may as well not reply. Why repeat what's aready been said? But I'm going to have my say this time. The only day I tuned in seriously to TCM this month was on Humphrey Bogart's day. I really don't care for a full day of any of the other actors. Summer under the Stars seems to feature the same old same old. I know there are plenty of happy members out there who are enjoying this month, because I've been reading your posts. Enjoy, folks, But it's not for me.

In To Have and Have Not, When Slim is standing by the piano singing, Cricket mouths something to her. Anybody read lips around here? I couldn't make out what he said, but she starts heading towards the crowd, so I assume he told her to mingle.

Uncle Mortie. "Did you shtoop her or what?" I've got this film on DVD. I love it.

It truly is.

Instead of Carson on mondays...
Janet0312 replied to FlyBackTransformer's topic in General Discussions
Me too. I was just thinking about the Carol Burnett Show when I was watching "A Stolen Life". God, how Harvey Corman would crack up! -
I remember reading SOMEWHERE that Gene Hackman begged to be in this movie. He is hilarious. "I was going to make espresso!" When I saw this film in the theater when it came out, I told my father he had to absolutely see it. And guess what? He loved it! I have a copy on DVD and watch it from time to time. Too many favorite scenes to name one. I love them all. I think Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder had balls to make this in black and white at the time.

This threasd is neat because we have posters from all over the globe.

The Thing That Couldn't Die. Man, this picture used to scare me to death. I used to go with a guy who would grab at his hair, make a stone face and mouth words. Used to scare the crap out of me. Then I saw it on MST3K. Changed my whole outlook on the film. Hope TCM airs it at a more reasonable time in the future. I love this film!

"Cold front"? COLD front? If you live in New England, Janet baby, shirley you're familiar enough with Canada - Ontario, anyway- to know that much of this country gets at least as hot and humid as yours' does in the summer. I wish, yeah, that there were some way we could save some of the cold from winter time and somehow keep it in a capsule and then release it into the Canadian summer, to alleviate the oppressive heat we get here in July. But so far they haven't discovered a way to do that. Yes, I live in the sweltering heat and humidity of New England. And don't call me Shirley. I dumped a bucket of ice water on my dog and myself. You have no business sending us hazy, hot, and humid air. You have a hellava lot a nerve. There's no such thing as heat in Canada. Get with the program and send us some ice.
-
We're waiting on you to send us that cold front that's due to hit New England Saturday afternoon. What's the hold up?
-
Ah, that makes sense. He maybe hand picked the same supporting actors or they were just Paramount players.
-
I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. Every movie I've watched today has a bunch of the same actors in them.

I was close.

I think maybe this is just too complex for most people to understand. On 41/2 hours sleep? Yeah, it is. I thought my eyeballs were going to pop outta my head when I read your Hollow Triumph reference in the camel hump conundrum topic. (Say that 3 times fast.)
