Lew Landers' tribute today is chock full of character actors.
Best line comes from Twelve Crooked Hours (what a title!): Newspaper editor yells, "OK, which one of you lushes got into my rye?"
-
Gee. I guess I'm in the minority here, I happen to find this film hilarious.

Hands down. Deanna Durbin.

There's no copyright issues as long as you don't sell what what you record.

I posted on the essentials board that they ought to have John Karlen as a guest. JK played Willie on Dark Shadows a million years ago, but he loves old movies. His fave actor is Chester Morris and I think he would add some colorful insight to the world of films. Hell, he's told me some ribald stories....
-
No kidding. Watch Ida's eyes in that film. Just watch her. She was just a kid and she stole the show.

John Karlen is best remembered as "Willie" from Dark Shadows. He is also remembered and an academy award winner from Cagney & Lacy. But as a friend, he is nuts about old movies and would make a wonderful host on the Essentials. He is a huge Boston **** fan (Chester Morris is his fave actor), loves Bogart, loves anything to do with old films. I would love to see Johnny on TCM ranting & raving the way he does.

Watching George Raft pictures is kind of like having a sip of very fine champagne. You're not really sure why it's good, but it's good. I love listening to his voice, at any rate.

Not his birthday, but I am enjoying his flicks none the less.

Film clips of Bette Davis accompanied by a very good impersonation of Bette Davis singing Feliz Navidad. Hell, that was wicked! LOL!
-
I enjoyed Midnight Mary as well. Maybe should have been titled, "The Really, Incredibly Bad Hat Movie".
I was surprised to see so many actors that I'm familiar with from the forties in this film. Andy Devine, for one. Wow.

And besides, where would we be without all the healthcare commercials telling us all what a bunch of wrecks we are.
-
SCY FY has been doing that for years. The New Years marathon is somewhat of a tradition with me, so I just deal with it.

Another thing commercial stations often do now is show the credits of the show while the last scene of the show is playing. They do this on TVLand. I'm watching Bonanza episodes. The early years have a lot of classic movie stars (e.g. in the last few weeks or so I have seen Jane Greer and Ruth Roman, both looking fine I might add). So I like to look at the credits, but the type is so small I cannot read it!
I assume stations do this so they have more time for more commercial or promos.
Yes, this drives me nuts. Even if you get close to the TV to see the credits, they go by so fast, you can't read them anyway. TVLand is notorius for this. They fill the lower third of the screen with promos when Murder, She Wrote is listing their players so you can't read the names.

That happened to me while watching 12 Angry Men. I hadda turn the sound way up, then near the end of the movie, the sound came back to normal. Don't know why.

Janet: in all the hateful things one occasionally sees on message boards, that takes the cake. I feel very sorry for you that that's the only level of discource you know how to engage in.
You're right. I apologize. That was a bit of nastiness no one needs. Don't know where it came from. Menopause maybe. Sorry. -
When was the last time you had sex? Or ever? What a bitter pill you are.

He was Good Will Ambassador at Large, an appointed position btw, for UNICEF. He was a philanthropist, and dedicated 1000's of hours traveling the world for UNICEF. He was well respected dispite the posters comments.
He was a brilliant, generous, multi talented man. He made many of us laugh, including as I said Bob Hope and Bogart. No one could have done the "vessel with the pestle" routine from *The Court Jester *better.
Absolutely! I have always adored Danny Kaye from a very early age. Whenever I see DK, I remember one very hot, humid summer evening - I guess I was 5 or 6 - when Mama put my mattress on the floor in front of the TV so I could watch the Danny Kaye Show in some sort of reasonable comfort.
The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon, the pestle with the vestle has the brew that is true. The pezzle with the flagon.. The poison with the pestle...
I recall one Sunday coming home from an amusement park with the family and my pop scurrying to the TV to watch The Court Jester. Very fond memories of Danny Kaye.

I tend to cringe a bit when I see an old film with a Swedish character going yoodie hoooo. But I take it with a grain of salt. It's the way people were perceived in those days.
Oh, and BTW, I lived down south for a time and they ALL hate yanks!

Oh, that phot is so sweet!!! Weren't we all ugly as babies?

Stooges marathon coming on shortly. It's been an annual event since... Gee, I can't remember. An annual event in the Boston area for thirty years, I reckon.

I am reading a bio on George Sanders and the author writes that LO played Maxim de Winter down and that GS stole every scene from LO.

I don't see George Raft as being a stiff.
