  1. I would have watched Miracle last night when I got home from work, but I honestly can't stand that many commercials. A 90 minute movie running for 2 hours and 15 minutes. Yikes!
  2. Hmm... Sadly, she isn't mentioned in Gregory Wm Manks' book, "Women in Horror Films".
  3. Where do you come up with this Universal stuff?
  4. Good question. Maybe the director. As in Tod Browning doing the narrrative when Dracula came to England.
  5. I live in Massachusetts and have Charter cable. No commercials on TCM via Charter, but they do have the most annoying habit of running emergency broadcast announcements across the screen at any given moment. These begin with a piercing buzzing sound at full volume.
  6. Love these little fillers. Wasn't RR young there?
  7. Big fan of George Sanders. Love mysteries. The Peppers were just too sickeningly sweet. Yuck.
  8. They finally put something on worth watching on a Saturday morning. Cowboys sure like singing.
  9. Thanks for the heads up. Lady & the Tramp is one of my faves! Oh.... this is the night, what a beautiful night....
  10. Been a while since I've seen Drac's Daughter too. Like 30 years. And what happened? I fell asleep! ACK! My work week was a nightmare too. I soooo wanted to see this film.
  11. Excellent post, Stephann55. I'm glad I came across this thread. I am reading Danse Macabre by Stephen King. Oct 1957, he went to see Earth VS the Flying Saucers, (one of his fave films to this day) and he said that they stopped the film, the theater manager came on stage to announce that Sputnik I had just been launched. It shattered everybody's belief that America was top dog. I was only 1 in 1960, but my pop shared his love for movies with me. He used to pick me up in his arms, announce that there was a spooky movie on, and rock me to sleep during the film. I still cringe to this day at the thought of Two on a Guillotine, House on Haunted Hill, and The Birds.
  12. When playing the game of Mystery Date, I actually preferred the "dud" to the bowler, the skier, and the prep. What can I say? I like men who work with their hands.
  13. I love Deanna Durbin. My first exposure to her was at a friend's who used to run 16mm films in his living room on Sunday nights. When I got home, I told my pop about the movie I'd just seen and he told me that he was madly in love with DD when he was a kid going to the movies. I bought a CD collection of her most popular songs years ago and crank it up every now and then.
  14. I'm a fan of Basil Rathbone too. Love his fencing in Cap'n Blood, Zorro, and Robin Hood. Amazon has the complete Sherlock Holmes collection for 59 clams. That sound like a good deal?
  15. {font:Verdana}Yes, I think TCM may be heading in that direction. And it doesn’t please me.{font} {font:Verdana}When I buy DVDs, I go to Amazon. That’s where I’ve had the most luck and best price. TCM’s DVDs are too pricey for my wallet.{font} {font:Verdana}They continually play that bit with Drew Barrymore and her love of movies and hosting with RO. I can’t stand her voice. I am now able to find the mute button on my remote without looking, thanks to the number of times they show this thing. I would much rather see a cartoon or short; something, anything. {font} {font:Verdana}I pretty much have budgeted cable into my expenses for TCM alone. I’ve already attempted to cancel cable once. (They lowered my monthly bill when I called. Heh. Heh…) But if TCM doesn’t quit playing British flicks pretty soon, it’s gone like donkey kong.{font}
  16. Extremely pleased to hear that Miss Stanwyck is the star for December. Came as a surprise to me since I was lax about renewing my subscription to Now Playing, dud. But I love Barbara Stanwyck. She really is excellent in everything I've seen her in.
  17. Finance, you've never seen NBNW? You're going to love it. One of my fave Alfred Hitchcock films (my fave being Shadow of a Doubt).
  18. I remember PIX out of NY or NJ used to show the Yule Log on Christmas Eve back in the day when cable TV was in its infancy. Heh, heh.
  19. Not a fan of GWTW or The Godfather saga. Although TVLAND cuts and trims shows for endless commercials for old age sufferers, I was quite content to watch Leave it to Beaver this morning while preparing the works.
  20. Here's one for ya. You ever notice that when someone is coming home carrying a bag of groceries, that there is always the proverbial head of celery sticking out of the top of the bag? This happens in both television and film.
  21. I thought I turned on the Cartoon channel for a moment there...
  22. Favorite line comes from Ygor: Your faddah was Frankenstein and your mudder was the lightening!
  23. I have a certain evil pleasure when Shirley Temple and Jane Withers go at it in Bright Eyes. Jane Withers' character is pure evil, a real rotten kid. Parents are even worse. I love it when Shirley's character kicks her ***.
