I think I am more curious about the fact that the 30s version of INNOCENCE has a 70-some minute running time. I would like to see how they condensed some of the scenes from Wharton's book. My feeling about Scorsese's version is that it was too long anyway. LOL

THE GIRL SAID NO aired in 2008 as part of Marie Dressler's SUTS. Fortunately, it's on DVD.
William Haines was a huge moneymaker for MGM...his legacy as a film comedian should be celebrated by us. It helps if his films are in some sort of rotation on TCM.

You're right...I will go back to the original post and just delete the entry for Ginger (those were primarily Paramount films and some Warners and a Monogram release). I didn't realize that.
As for Joe Penner, I will revise it...most of those are RKO films, except the first two weren't and the last one was done at Universal, right before his death.

What I found most interesting in this article is the fact that Hughes was the first one to sign an agreement with the feds about the anti-trust legislation. This forced the other studio heads to follow suit and it changed Hollywood overnight.

I don't know. Probably if you check the notes on the internet movie database for a particular musical, and look in the soundtrack area, it should tell you who the vocalist was...then you can cross-reference with other musicals Mayo did.

Yes, Don DeFore had an interesting career. I think his best role is in THE STORK CLUB. But I also like him in the western RAMROD as a pal of Joel McCrea's. And he does a nice supporting turn in Douglas Sirk's BATTLE HYMN as an aviator alongside Rock Hudson.
I was a bit disappointed that the bonfire scene was cut from COLLEGE...it was one of the highlights of MALE ANIMAL.
As for the question about Mayo's singing, she was dubbed in all her films.

"Open Up The Vaults" a year long celebration of opening up the deep, deep TCM Library itself, MGM, RKO and early WB! Films that haven't aired since the first few years of the channel, along with some that maybe never aired at all, plus some that are more well-known, or recently aired mixed in!
That's a great idea, Mark.
I think the answer is much simpler. They need to stop showing some films like IN HARM'S WAY so often. Not only is it a very long film, but when it keeps getting repeated, that's a lot of airtime that could be used for showing some of these other titles that don't get seen. I would glady trade two airings of IN HARM'S WAY during the year for some William Haines or Madge Evans films.

It's probably a rights issue.
When I was looking at the January schedule recently, I did think of you Canadian folks. There are several days with nothing but Hal Roach titles: a day for Laurel & Hardy shorts; another day for Thelma Todd and Charley Chase; plus airings of films with the Our Gang kids and Mickey Daniels' spin-off teen series. These were distributed by MGM, but usually produced by Roach.
My guess is that for Canadian TCM watchers in January, there will be a lot of replacement movie fare...like a lot of RKO stuff. In August, in lieu of Thelma Todd's SUTS offerings, you had Robert Mitchum RKO flicks.

It does seem appropriate which means that the Joel McCrea devotees will have to wait at least until April.
I still haven't seen THE GIRL FROM MISSOURI or SARATOGA. So it would be nice if they made it on the sched in March.

I put that title under Ricardo Cortez. I think there were a few other Helen Twelvetrees films I may have forgotten to include. She had a lot of hit films, and most people today don't even know about her.
