I saw quite a bit of The Big Country showing on regular TCM (not TCM HD) and frankly it didn't look much different than my 2001 MGM DVD copy, EXCEPT for a rather glaring "L" shaped white object near the top center of the frame during a portion of the film. ???? This definitely is not visible on the DVD, I've watched it a dozen times. This object seen on the TCM broadcast is confirmed by others at IMDb forum. Not to mention that posters were questioning if the TCM broadcast was an actual restoration copy because it seemed to have similar issues visible on the DVD of dust, dirt, and other picture issues. I missed the host intro to the TCM broadcast, apparently from what I've heard a guest was on discussing the film's restoration. There was a restoration done in 2007 by the AFA for the film's 50th anniversary. Anyway, from what I saw on standard TCM the film did not look restored or at any rate different from the DVD print- other than that white object flaw which is onscreen for at least a few minutes of film time. I wish I could say exactly where i saw it in the film but can't recall.
