The Philadelphia Film Society and the Friends of the Wanamaker Organ are sponsoring a screening of the recently restored version of "Metropolis" in Macy's Grand Court in Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, March 19th, 2011 at 8:30 PM. The film will be accompanied by Peter Richard Conte at the Wanamaker Organ, who will improvise from the film's orginal score.
The Wanamaker Organ is considered to be the world's largest playing pipe organ. The core of this organ was first heard at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, and then later purchased and moved to Philadelphia by the Wanamaker Department Store where it was installed in the store's Grand Court a hundred years ago.
