At 71 Views, that's close enough. All versions of the Destry story shopped here and there among the elements of Max Brand's novel Destry Rides Again. The Tom Mix 1939 movie, same title as the novel, told the straightforward story of the man framed for a crime, who served time in prison, then came looking for vengeance when he had served his time. *Destry Rides Again* was also used for the James Stewart movie of 1939, famously teaming him up with Marlene Dietrich. He was Tom Destry, Jr, son of a famous lawman, and the conceit was that he avoided gunplay as long as he could, then was a very good at it when the had to be. Then in 1954 using the title *Destry*, Audie Murphy, working for the same director (George Marshall), was involved in just about the same plot. Again the good guy wound up with the good girl and not with the saloon singer. John Gavin's one-season 1964 series, *Destry*, re-arranged some of the elements. He was Harrison Destry, son of famous lawman Tom Destry. He, too, had been a lawman. He too had been framed for a crime of which he was innocent, and had served time. His sentence completed, he was now looking for those who had framed him. I believe the series was canceled before he finished that task. He, too, filed gunplay under Plan B. The story got to Broadway in 1959, reviving the title *Destry Rides Again*, with Andy Griffith in the lead role. It followed the same story as the Stewart and Murphy movies, with stops for musical numbers to help tell the story. jakeem's thread.

(23,567) As stated, the guess is not correct, but I think you're on the right track. Max Brand.

They may have, I don't know; but that's not what's involved in the question. It does involve performance, and it takes in the venues of bigscreen movie, TV and the Broadway stage.

*...more titles for Round 2* *The Man Who Knew Too Little* (1997) *The Man Who Had Power over Women* (1970) *The Man Who Fell to Earth* (1976) *The Man Who Could Work Miracles* (1936)

Thanks, jakeem. I knew bupkus from *Squaw Man*, but I took the chance. -- I was familiar with the other three. Next up: There may be a more than one thing that these performers have in common, but I have just one thing in mind to answer the question. Tom Mix James Stewart Audie Murphy John Gavin Andy Griffith. ...What do they have in common.

There's a lot of trouble getting on site now. Only 5 users showing. Since I got here, and will have trouble getting back, I'll go ahead and start a new round. As I see it, anyone with additional titles to add to the first three rounds need only to identify the round to do so. *Round 4: "From"* ...takes the form of (PERSON OR THING noun) *From* (PLACE noun) i.e: *The Kid From Brooklyn* (1946) *The Girl From Jones Beach* (1849) *The Man From Laramie* (1955) *The Boys From Brazil* (1978)

I spent some 24 hours unable to get on the Boards at all, but I was able to browse in other sections -- Schedule, Mo. Highlights, Watch Videos, Games, etc. When finally able to get on the Boards, all reactions were slow. Click on a location, get a blank yellow screen, then wait about 20-25 seconds until the new location came on. Continues that way. Has TWCAdmin commented anywhere?

*It Happened Here* (1966) *It Happened One Summer* (1945)

Correct, Sixes, at a little over 160 Views. I've done considerable reading about Fields, over a couple of decades, but that story was a new one on me. mr6666's thread.

...I've been unable to get on the Message Boards for almost 24 hours now. Not the other sites on TCM, just the Boards. I thought they were picking on me, but when I was able to log on, I noted that another user had the same complaint. So I'll stop sulking. To Business: The male lead in this film had a Vaudeville background, and was there for years before he got into film. The persona he developed both on-and-off-screen featured a lot of drink and drunkenness. In real life he did drink, but the evidence is that he was never intoxicated at work, and that he actually drank a lot less than his made-up image suggested. The female lead, also from Vaudeville, never drank, never smoked. Her tailored persona was based a lot on sexual innuendo and flashy costuming. It was entirely suggestive dialogue and mannerisms, and never involved anything near nudity. This worked so well for her that she sometimes got her act canceled, and her films withdrawn by authorities. Audience denied her performances then showed up in droves where she could be seen. The cast member who rigged up a lot of extra paid time for himself. -- He has a long and busy resume` posted.

Richard Martin. He had a long run as Irish-Mexican sidekick "Chico Josh Gonzales Bustamonte Rafferty". The Hero, Tim Holt, had different character names with each film, but the sidekick was always Chico, and always a skirt-chaser.

I ran across this story quite by accident, but I'm surprised that no one else seems to recognize it. The two principals in the story had reputations for eccentricity, and for sometimes being difficult. But each also had a following and a proven track record at filling seats.

There are quite a few others, 'Liberty Valence', etc, but I would like to see others participate. I'll wait.
-
...let's see, then... *The Curse of the Crimson Altar* *The Curse of the Demon* *The Curse of the Werewolf* *The Curse of the Swamp Creature* *The Curse of the Living Dead* *The Curse of the Golden Flower* ...And I have another suggestion. If we go to another subject, someone who finds another "Curse" title can log on and add it by tagging it as a "Round 2" title. And if someone else wants to join in, I suggest that Round 3 address "The Man Who..." titles.

I can't nail this one down, but I can help someone else. From the clues so far, it seems to include Red Buttons in the cast. Good luck.

I guess that's *Round #2.* *The Curse of the Jade Scorpian* *The Curse of the Pink Panther* *The Curse of Frankenstein* *The Curse of the Cat People*... Edited by: flashback42 on May 4, 2013 11:17 AM

Nine days, and exactly 300 Views. I sometimes had the impression that no one was reading the thread. Sixes' thread.
