  4. Correct, Edythe, and there's an ironic attachment to that fact. Mr. Howard's Oscar win -- due at least partly to Mr Hecht's work -- beat out Mr. Hecht's nomination (along with Charles McArthur) for the script of *Wuthering Heights*. Edythe's thread.
  5. Are none of the patrons of this thread familiar with this aspect of the production?
  6. No takers? This is the kind of song you get exposed to when you have children or other young relatives to take to the movies. The theme is a retelling of a familiar story, adjusted to grammer-school age audiences.

Taft presidency The poorer man had some standing as former Cavalryman, lawman, etc. A bush-league Ned Buntline had featured him in a couple of dime novels, but he never profited from it. At best, it helped him cage the occasional drink. They had been working a hardscrabble gold mine when his partner robbed him of his money and his girl.

  13. Sidney Howard won an Oscar as sole scriptwriter for the film. But accounts persist that he had written an overblown script that would have run about 6 hours. A man with a great reputation as a script doctor (and as a fast writer) did what is considered the final treatment of the script. Different accounts: he was paid either $5000 or $10,000 for this work. He got no screen credit. Who was that? Edited by: flashback42 on Jun 21, 2012 3:43 PM

  18. (8,495) This scripter was an early supporter of Zionism. Before the State of Israel was founded, when that area was still a part of Palestine, he openly supported revolt against the British occupation there. Result, his credited works were banned in the UK. The many, many uncredited films played there undetected.

  20. *They Shoot Horses, Don't They?*
  21. There's this screenwriter, now deceased. 4 Oscar nominations, 2 more were Oscar wins, one of them unshared. Did a lot of well-paid, uncredited writing, polishing the scripts of others. Of his uncredited work on the script for GWTW, he reports in his autobiography that he kept trying to get rid of this character named "Ashley Wilkes" -- just have him not survive to come back from the War. He had never read the book, and the Suits wouldn't let him simplify things. Whodat?
