A new fatal attraction film, perhaps more appropriate: Late 1960s. Middleage man, much younger girlfriend. Her family are leaving that part of the country due to legal situations locally, and they have her with them. He takes a short cut, stops them, and has a roadside confrontation. They insist all are leaving; "Arrangement's over." He is holding his own in a fight with her father and her brother, when she pitches in -- on their side. This stops him, stunned. They pile back in their truck and drive away. He's on his knees on the side of the road, staring after them as a rain starts. Then the credits start rolling and a famous voice starts the Theme-and-Title song that is some fifteen years older than the movie itself. Title? Cast member or members??

less famous characters or names from famous movies
flashback42 replied to cagney69's topic in Games and Trivia
The term is a movable nickname. Where a Gringo might address a fellow Gringo as "hey, Mac," he might also address an Hispanic man or boy as "hey, Chico", The one at the focus of this question had a strong support part in a very popular action Western. In the sequel six years later, (played by another actor), he is killed in the early scenes. Old friends re-assemble to avenge him and to help his family and friends. It is mentioned in passing that they had never known his real name. He had been a loyal comrade-at-arms, and the name had never been that important. -
With no responses, retiring the question. Maybe too offbeat, even too morbid, for the users of this thread. The question referrred to Dirk Bogarde's performance in 1971's *Death In Venice.* Open thread.

(26,587) Large cast, ensemble acting. Some very prominent performers in relatively small roles. -- A trademark of this director. Both characters in this conversation have significant positions in other plot threads. -
Quiz: What movie is this line from?
flashback42 replied to faceinthecrowd's topic in Games and Trivia
Closing down and starting over. Haven't kept a Views count, but this has gone for six days without a response. I was still mining *Cluless.* The fatherly quote is from Dan Hedaya. The "boy time' comment is from narration by Alicia Silverstone. // Going for one that may be more interesting: 'Ninties movie with a famed director. DAD -- "How long's it been? 25 years?" HOWARD -- "How long since what?" DAD -- "Since your accident." HOWARD -- "30 years. I don't even remember the hospital. I remember the car flipping over and floating away. That's about it." DAD -- "Well I did something that day I'd never done before. I didn't tell your mother the truth. I called in sick and left like I was going to work. I didn't tell her I was going over to Olla's to help her hook up a refrigeator with icemaker. -- Your mother would have had a fit. It was okay her to help Olla, of course, but not me. She was real possessive that way. Sisters are funny, you know. And in this case I was happy to oblige. I needed the extra money. "And it was Olla's idea for me not to tell your mother. It was Olla's idea for me to lie. Anyway I figured it'd take a couple of hours, then I'd go in to work and tell 'em I felt better. I told Olla I'd be over, and when I got there the door was open, so I go in. I hear she's up in the shower, so I holler upstairs to let her know I was there so she won't get scared when she comes out and hears me working in the basement and so forth. "So after a while, Olla comes down to the basement -- in a robe. And she says she got cleaned up -- for me. And I think that's very odd to say, under the circumstances. Anyway she says, 'How's it going?' I says, 'Fine.' She offers me a beer, she says, 'You want a beer?' I says, 'Geez, it's kind of early in the morning, isn't it?' She says, 'Well, I'm not your employer, am I? Do you want a beer or not?' "I says whatthehell, why not? She comes back with two beers. I tell you, every time I finish a beer, she hands me another one. By this time we're up in the kitchen. I'm having trouble with those pipes. By this time I've had five beers. "And I says, and this is exactly what I said, 'If I have one more beer, I'm going to have to take a nap.' And she says, 'I was wondering what it would take to get you into bed.' "Well, I laughed, and she says, 'Don't tell me it didn't cross your mind, 'cause I'll call you a liar.' Well I tell you it didn't ever. I did find her company attractive, but I didn't ever ...I dunno. I didn't want to hurt her feelings. I mean, after all, she was your mother's sister... "Well, I don't know how much time passed, all I knew, I was working like hell on that icemaker, trying to get the damn thing going. And all this time she was saying things like, 'If the positions were reversed, my sister would be doing the same thing.' And do you believe...I don't know. It was like this was some thing between the two of them. I don't know. I started sweating, my knees were shaking... "And then she opens up the robe, and I get a -- Oh Jesus God! That woman was put together a helluva lot better than you could tell when she was in just that dress...Jesus, it was hard for me to resist. I don't know about you, but it was for me..." HOWARD -- "That was a long time ago, Pop." DAD -- "So?" (Hand gesture meaning "Went upstairs.") "...Neither one of us heard your mother come it. Oh, God Almighty, she, she didn't really look at Olla, she just looked at me, and she said, 'Howard's in the hospital.' And on the way to the hospital, she said, well, she cried a little, but she said, 'Why didn't you tell me you weren't going to work? They told me you were sick!' "Christ, I felt so ashamed. It was just an unlucky day. Bad timing...But I tell you, that first day at the hospital, your mother and I stood side by side. When those doctors came to us, and most of the news was bad, but we stood there together, and we took it together. "Then Olla lied. God, Olla told your mother that we'd had affairs in the past, but I swear it was just that one time. And I tried to explain to your mother exactly what happened, but you know what she said to me? 'I don't want you around any more. I'll get through this thing alone, no matter what happens to Howard.' "I had to respect her wishes, Howard. I mean, no matter wheather I wanted to or not, I had to. And I kept thinking, some day, some way the truth will come out, and she'll know....We both know that never happened. Film? Performers? -
The young Norwegian -- maybe 14, 16 -- is aware of being watch, and of being admired. It is not clear if he has a full awareness of everything that could possibly happen. The conductor is portrayed by an English actor with a long and solid resume`.

less famous characters or names from famous movies
flashback42 replied to cagney69's topic in Games and Trivia
Thanks, cagney. Next name, Chico. A strong support role, but the name used only a couple of times. A film series. The character was played in the original, and in the sequel, by two different actors. -
Little dialogue. And the conversations are not about the fascination at the core of the story. Some discussions about Music. References to a fear of an outbreak of Pleague. Lingering shots of the man, watching. Most of the core story takes place in his facial expressions, and they are minimal.

Correct, Lavender. Myra Sorvino (Oscar performance, Supporting Actress). Woody Allen, (Oscar nominated for directing). F. Murray Abraham as Chorus Leader. Jack Warden as Tiresais, blind Seer of Thebes ("The handicapped are always so cranky!") lavenderblue's thread Edited by: flashback42 on Apr 1, 2012 6:27 PM

Not Kitty Foyle. The actress was second generation; her father well known to film fans. There are occasional breaks in the flow of the narrative while a classical Greek chorus provides commentary.

Honored musician and conductor from a Medeterrinan country becomes fascinated with a blond, Nordic youth vacationing in the area with his family. There is no attempt to approach or to become acquainted. He just watches from afar.

This was an Oscar-win performance for her. He was nominated for an Oscar in another catagory.

Thanks, skipper. Next up: "It's just like Hamlet said, 'To thine own self be true.' " "Hamlet didn't say that." "I think I remember *Hamlet* accurately." "Well, I remember Mel Gibson accurately, and he didn't say that. That Polonius guy did."

The actor in the "brother" role. -- His career was sidelined due to illness. He has recovered to an extent, and is performing again on a limited basis.

Thanks, skipper. I did remember a scrap of theme lyrics about "♫ They go uppty-up-bup, They go down-diddy-down-down.♫" Anyway, next up: A man and a woman meet, for the first time in a year or more, while Christmas shopping in a department store. He knows, as she does not, that the handsome "son" he has with him is the baby that she gave up for adoption a few years ago. She knows, as he does not, that the cute baby daughter with her is his daughter also. They chat briefly, compliment each other's children, and then go their seperate ways. Film?
