  1. Early 1970s. Italian-French. Filming locations include the city named in the title. Timeframe of story -- late 1800s.
  2. The actor playing the brother had some TV series exposure before this film, and considerable series and bigscreen work to follow. Their band was called "The Barbusters."
  3. ...abandoned thread... A fascination all the way to death within a singel gender. 1970s. Foreign film.
  4. The sister is played by an established musician & singer. She has titles and albums on the charts, and IMDb shows her with three times as many Soundtrack credits as Acting credits. The secret she is carrying: Her son's father is a local community bigwig who is, among other things, an icon to people like her mother.
  5. No research, just an impression from a title... *Those Daring Young Men in Their Flying Machines* ???
  6. *Breakfast at Tiffany's* ??? If correct, open thread. Got nothing at the moment.
  7. James Garner and Jack Elam in *Support Your Local Sheriff* ???
  8. "Something happens to my daughter, I've got a .45 and a shovel. I doubt you'll be missed."
  9. Debbie and Kathy have both played Molly Brown, as in "unsinkable". ???
  10. Guildersleve, Throckmorton P. -- Harold Peary in *The Great Guildersleve* (1942)
  11. B-) Gotcha. *43: The Petty Story* aka *Smash-Up Alley*. Biopic of Richard Petty's life on the race-car circuit.
  12. Carol, if Taylor and Oberon called Tiffany's "pradise", I think I have a handle on this title.
  13. Not *Satisfaction.* The sister -- she has a 5-year-old son, father unidentified. Her center of interest is the band and her hopes for it to succeed. Anger and attitude. The brother still has hopes for the family, and he is the supportive, doting buddy to his young nephew. The kid goes with them on the band's tour.
  14. *140* "Well whatadayawant? She's the only prom date left since my cousin moved to Oxnard."
  15. Thanks, skipper. My next selection is another film whose fans and posters would like to have access to a commercial copy. Late 1980s. Brother and sister, working-class young adults, have a struggling rock band. And some ambitions for it. Some conflict with their parents over this. The parents, mother especially, is distressed when they quit their jobs to go on tour with the band.
  16. I saw it with my dad, Late, Late Show, about age 14. I did not remember the job interview, but I did remember a sort of "describe the scene" moment: Guy's a cook for a big crew of men working in the wilderness. Problems. -- The hunters foraging for him have had no luck bringing in game that he could use -- deer, elk, buffalo. And the men are hungry. The cook goes over and starts feeling the sides of a plump little donkey. (My dad, laughing, "He's going to cook that jackass?") In a subsequent scene, the cook is ladling out a thick meat stew, and the chow line is moving right along. I'll be back with another poser.
  17. "It's a Sicilian message: Luca Brazi sleeps with the Pewtersmiths Guild!"
  18. *Erendira* -- 1983 title role for Claudia Ohana (Mexico) ...full title in English of the source story: The Incredible and Sad Tale of Innocent Erendira and Her Heartless Grandmother
  19. Yo, Sixes. I've sorta used myself up on this question. Is skipper on the right track?
  20. At some 150 Views, enough to retire the question. *Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy* and *Smiley's People* are from the same author (John Le Carre) and the latter is a sequel to the former. The mid-60s movie I referenced was *The Second Best Secret Agent In the Whole Wide World*, a satire of Bond movies. The theme was sung by Sammy Davis, Jr. In a scene in the 2011 filming of *Tinker Tailor*, Davis' record is playing, and a number of people in the party are singing along with it. My "post a link" muscles atrophy when my son isn't home, but anyone interested can track it down and hear Mr. Davis' version of the song. ♫ Not the tenth, ninth, eighth, seventh, sixth or fifth or fourth or third or first when a challange is hurled♪... But the second best secret agent in the whole wide bloomin' world! ♫ (spoken) I think! Edy's thread. Edited by: flashback42 on Mar 26, 2012 7:44 PM

In the vernacular, "My bad" on that one. A caution on my last post. My position seemed reasonable to me, but one may decide that 1941 is not available for use until after 1940 was reached, and used or ruled out. danjw should probably rule on this.
  22. Skipping "X" Yvette -- Lilli Palmer in *Good Morning, Boys* (1937)
  23. The source of the story in the later movie is a 1974 novel about the discovery and exposure of a "mole" in British intelligence services. The plot had some similarities to the real-life events concerning the notorious Kim Philby exposure and defection. The author knew his subject matter; he had worked in British Intel, and was acquainted with Philby. The stories he wrote were in contrast to the more entertaining Bond-type movies. As mentioned, this story had received an earlier treatment in a miniseries. Oh -- The novel and the miniseries did not include the incident with a Christmas party, and the singing of the theme from an American movie.
