  1. Bingo! stick. Star Kevin Costner was the mole. Your thread.
  2. > {quote:title=thestick wrote:}{quote}"Even as fog continues to lie in the valleys; so does ancient sin cling to the low places, the depressions in the world consciences." stick, I can connect that passage with a writer named DeWitt Bodine (1902 - 1982), and it seems to concern the movie(s) *Cat People*, (1942 and 1982). Mr. Bodine worked on both those scripts. I can't find which script used the quote, or if both of them did. ??
  3. Brooklyn setting: Meets the former girlfriend. Sucker-punches and disarms her new boyfriend, then walks away from that part of his youth. Goes to a pub with the hardest one to deal with - his father. Half ignoring him, the father (who is the Big Name in this cast) meets with his own cronies, and they start their own pub ritual -- harmonizing on maudlin Irish ballads. Other patrons object; a brawl. After their win, the father and son are more relaxed, more open with each other.
  4. Negative re "*Zchivago."* Cold War setting. USA military espionage. Code name for a possible mole in American ranks.
  5. Quintana, Claire -- Lena Horne in *Death of a Gunfighter* (1969)
  6. This one has me stumped. The only guess I could consider is Brian Dennehy's "Jack Reed" character, with that name part of every title. But all six of those movies came out in the 1990s. Someone else will have to pick up on this one.
  7. Thanks, stick. Next up: 1970s TVM. Big star, with a long-standing career. Some TV exposure, but mostly in theatrical films. Some outstanding films, with some big names. The story is sourced from a memoir/novel by an outstanding journalist, magazine writer and novelist. The subject matter is his return to his old home and neighborhood after Navy basic training and before shipping out. Old girlfriend -- and her new boyfriend packs heat. Family, and most especially his father. The varied cast of this TVM is a rich lode for those who enjoy that trivia game based on an actor's name. ???
  8. Thanks, TD1. Next up: Yuri (not cast-listed. in context, it's a code name.)
  9. Series *Boris Karloff's Thriller.* Episode Dark Legacy. Air date 30 May 1961. ???
  10. Is this a retread series character, similar to Raymond Burr's return as "Ironside" after that series had ended? (He made more return TVMs as Perry Mason, but Mason was not a police detective.}
  11. Are the movies under discussion here Theatricals, or are they TVMs?
  12. *The Pledge* was a remake of Esgpschah am hellichten Tag (West German, 1958), American title *It Happened in Broad Daylight*. Robin Wright was in the cast of *The Pledge*, billed as Robin Wright Penn.
  13. ♫ A whale of a tale and it's all true ♪ I swear by my tattoo...♫ Correct at just over 100 Views, skipper. Witness Douglas made reference to his singing gig in the film *20,000 Leagues Under The Sea*. What I failed to make clear in the original question: Mr.Douglas ;alleged to the panel that Mr. Sinatra had become envious over the display of his (Mr. Dougla's) singing talent. Pure hogwash and a joke, and he said that Mr. Sinatra got a laugh out of it. He described the incident in his autobiography, The Ragman's Son. mudskipper's thread. Edited by: flashback42 on Mar 6, 2012 12:53 PM
  14. I've no idea how to track down budget info like that, C.A, but there may be some around who do. It just occurs to me that the figure for that 1960s blockbuster would seem much more reasonable than by today's standards. Got nothing at the moment. Open thread.
  15. The big star involved in this anecdote never worked with Mr. Sinatra, although their careers were very big at the same time.
  16. Lemesee, here, lemesee... In *Pygmalion* (1938) Higgins (Leslie Howard) says, "Where the devil are my slippers, Eliza?" In *My Fair Lady* (1964) Higgins (Rex Harrison) says, "Eliza, where the devil are my slippers?" Which one?
  17. Correct, C.A. Up and down in 102 minutes. Your thread.
  18. In the knowledge that the poser has been answered and has been used on this Thread before, continuing the Thread. Last line: "I'm sorry, Mister. You can't play with us." ???
  19. stick, That seemed familiar, so I traced back. It was used on this thread by mr6666 on 16 Nov 09, and was identified on 22 Nov 09. It's from the prologue to *Ninotchka*. ???
  20. (3,692) This incident is described in the (witness) star's autobiography, so we have only one side of the story. Maybe Ol' Blue Eyes wasn't amused.
  21. Thanks, finance. Next up: Actor; solid career, big name. Gets called to testify by officials who are investigating allegations about singer/actor Frank Sinatra. The witness has no information in the field they are pursuing, and says so. He adds that the only thing he knows against the Chairman is his (Sinatra's) professional jealousy. Told to explain that, he cites a film he (the witness) recently completed in which he had a brief sequence strolling with a banjo and singing a ditty. Says this incurred Sinatra's envy and wrath. Witness was dismissed, and supposedly Sinatra got a good laugh out of the story. Whodat?
  22. *Jack London* -- 1943 biopic title role played by Michael O'Shea
