  1. Brushes with history:

The Big Star had a long and honored career. He was also a decorated veteran of WWII and a Reserve Officer afterward. Took time off from his career to do go on missions in Viet Nam during that conflict.

The writer whose experiences form the basis of this story. -- Was a friend and ally of the Kennedy family during their years of greatest influence. One of the bystanders who subdued and disarmed Sirhan Sirhan following the assassination of RFK.

  2. 'lana, I had no memory of that one; got past me completely. Next up:

Mid-1970s TVM. A crime story built around a young private eye -- a romantic who is wasting a perfectly good degree in accounting. Some usual P.I. cliches, like skinflint client. He accepts a partial payment mailed by a former client, but the check includes the notation "Paid In Full." He's getting stiffed, but he cashes it. Needs the money.

His new client: A woman with amnesia -- a blank in her memory for some 24 hours. Attempts have been made on her life, and she doesn't know why.

stick, I can connect that passage with a writer named DeWitt Bodine (1902 - 1982), and it seems to concern the movie(s) *Cat People*, (1942 and 1982). Mr. Bodine worked on both those scripts. I can't find which script used the quote, or if both of them did.

  4.

    Brooklyn setting:

Meets the former girlfriend. Sucker-punches and disarms her new boyfriend, then walks away from that part of his youth.

Goes to a pub with the hardest one to deal with - his father. Half ignoring him, the father (who is the Big Name in this cast) meets with his own cronies, and they start their own pub ritual -- harmonizing on maudlin Irish ballads. Other patrons object; a brawl. After their win, the father and son are more relaxed, more open with each other.

  5.

This one has me stumped. The only guess I could consider is Brian Dennehy's "Jack Reed" character, with that name part of every title. But all six of those movies came out in the 1990s. Someone else will have to pick up on this one.

  6. Thanks, stick. Next up:

1970s TVM. Big star, with a long-standing career. Some TV exposure, but mostly in theatrical films. Some outstanding films, with some big names.

The story is sourced from a memoir/novel by an outstanding journalist, magazine writer and novelist.

The subject matter is his return to his old home and neighborhood after Navy basic training and before shipping out. Old girlfriend -- and her new boyfriend packs heat. Family, and most especially his father. The varied cast of this TVM is a rich lode for those who enjoy that trivia game based on an actor's name.

  7. ♫ A whale of a tale and it's all true ♪ I swear by my tattoo...♫

Correct at just over 100 Views, skipper. Witness Douglas made reference to his singing gig in the film *20,000 Leagues Under The Sea*. What I failed to make clear in the original question: Mr.Douglas ;alleged to the panel that Mr. Sinatra had become envious over the display of his (Mr. Dougla's) singing talent. Pure hogwash and a joke, and he said that Mr. Sinatra got a laugh out of it. He described the incident in his autobiography, The Ragman's Son.
