  1. Thanks, cujas.

Next up, not a subtle one.

Late 60s comedy series; an episode about a journey by rail in a foreign location. At a border crossing stop, Big Guest Star enters the compartment, in a train conductor's uniform, checks and stamps everyone's passport and exits. Minimal dialogue, no plot advancement, no special attention paid to this event. Just some goofy billing in the closing credits.

    What show? Who?

  2. metz44,

Do you know how to access a PM that has been posted to your username? I answered your original posting of that question via a PM. Both the author of this thread and I had reasons for wanting to avoid using names connected with this allegation directly on this thread. If you can not deal with a PM, I don't know how to help you.

    Regards,

    flashback42.

  3. *The Wild Geese* (1978), a solid actioner about mercenaries in action. British film, international casting, and filmed partially in South Africa. However, this international production went down without an American presence, even though Burt Lancaster had been offered a role. Two different explanations offered:

    (1) The producers failed to meet Mr. Lancaster's salary demands.

    (2) During negotiations, Mr. Lancaster wrote a series of letters suggesting script changes that would make his role larger, and would elbow Richard Burton (!) into a support role. The producers declined these changes, and the offer was withdrawn.

I know which version I think is true, but everyone can make up his own mind.

  4. Ann Doran (1911-2000)

Several Capra titles, including *Meet John Doe* and *Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.*

James Dean's mother in *Rebel Without A Cause.*

Credited with 360 titles in her filmography. Continuing TV series roles in *Shirley* (1979-80), *Longstreet* (1971-72) and *National Velvet* (1960-62).

    ???

  5. Between 1949 and 1954, Charles Dennis Buchinsky made 25 film appearances -- TV and Theater -- either uncredited or under his birth name. Probably the most familiar of the films are *House Of Wax* and *Miss Sadie Thompson*, both in 1953.

Starting in 1954 and until 1999, he made the rest of his 162 appearances under his assumed name, Charles Bronson. Just about any film buff could probably name 5 - 10 titles without having to look anything up.

  6. Thanks, finance. Next up:

The Don waits under the breakfast table, hands over his ears, while his wife goes out to the driveway and starts the car. He emerges and she gets out (she's still in her housecoat), and the Don gets behind the wheel. She shuts the driver's door for him, and then it explodes.

    ???

  7. Correct, finance. The film under discussion was 1952's *The Big Trees*. Mr. Douglas was made to admit that he got union scale for the work (figure not named) but he still called it "working for nothing." The poor man kept trying to talk about *Lonely Are The Brave*, but the impish Mr. Cavett wouldn't let him.

    finance's thread.

  8. The deletions: A couple of attempts at humor (about horse's heads, etc.) that were not appropriate, so I scrapped them.

The Forum GENERAL DISCUSSIONS has a thread that was started on Jan 19th addressing one urban legend; the thread title says it all: "*The Manchurian Candidate* was not pulled from distribution for 26 years." I know that's right because I saw the film on TV sometime in 1968-69 or so.
