Prior to the arrival of DNA on the scene it was sometime tedious to script an "identify the victim" sequence. But sometimes, dealing with a weak premise, it could be used to pad a weak script.

The same woman who told her son the Crucifixion parable had a fortunetelling business . "You are under an evil curse due to the evil money that your husband left you. You must take it out of the bank and bury it beside your husband's grave on a moonless night...Well, if that frightens you, withdraw the money and bring it to me; I will bury it for you. Then the curse will go away..."

It is indeed an American story. The "kingship" involved is territorial. It covers "New York and Eastern Pennsylvania", although there are others in that community who dispute that title. It involves a culture that was imported from abroad, and it has been compared to that body of tales involving --The Maf-- organized crime "families".
It involves excellent ensemble acting, and some very familiar American performers in the cast. The mother's "tell you a story" passage was a deliberately planted clue.

Right. The first quote was in an interview following the making of Pretty Baby , a film about a teen prostitute.

Another quote, same source:
"I'm so na?ve about finances. Once when my mother mentioned an amount and I realized I didn't understand, she had to explain 'That's like three Mercedes'. Then I understood."

past 250 Views:
Negotiations fail. The young man comes and snatches his sister back from the family that purchased her. Then he goes for his father with a shotgun. A chase through a crowd, and then up several floors of an empty building. The father tries to exit by a rope from an upper-story window, and the son blows him away. By the time he reaches ground floor, the police have arrived. confronting several scores of the young man's community. Many swear that the perpetrator was the ubiquitous Unidentified Black Male who commits so many of New York's violent crimes. Several saw him; none knew him. He got away.
The young man, who has served as narrator throughout the film. walks with his people away from his father's graveside funeral, noting that he can not evade this responsibility, and he'll have to try to bring this people into the 20th Century.
1970s. B&W. Large cast of familiar names. A lot of talent.

I was wondering the same thing. There are several titles, some from TV: Agrippina ??. One of the wives of the Emperor Claudius had domestic habits like that. ??

"You were very good today. You're going to be special, like your grandfather. That's it, you eat this, and I'll tell you a story. When the good Jesus was on the cross, the Roman soldiers had four nails, one big one for the heart. But a Gypsy guy was there, and he stole the one for the heart. The soldiers were looking all over for it, but Jesus could see what they could not -- that the Gypsy guy had it. So from that day on, Jesus promised the Gypsies they could roam the world and steal what they want."
