Catch Me If You Can (2002)
...Where I found the quote, it was part of a very long speech. Speaker was not identified either by character or performer. I reason that it is the Di Caprio character.

RETIRING THE QUESTION
This is a good Trivia question, but the flow of the scene makes it too cumbersome for the way this thread is set up.
The Night They Raided Minsky's (1968) Two opinionated and stiff-necked men, one Jewish, one Amish, are in a theological conflict, based on their different interpretations of Scripture. Starting with the Fist of Righteousness and moving to the fingers, it goes all over the place, until they decide to go to the theater and try to avert a crisis. (BTW, the Finger of Transportation turns out to be the thumb -- in a hitchhiker's gesture.)
Open thread.

The innovative director started his career in standup comedy. He teamed up with a partner; they did well, and went into movie work as a team. It was after they parted ways that he became a director, usually self-directing his own work.

"Yeah, but who said that exactly?"
"Marx."

The Wiseman-fingers reference could be cumbersome due to the length of the scene. Some narrowing down may be useful. Either of these may work:
finger of righteousness
finger of vengeance
finger of transportation

The performer-turned-director adapted what was then a recent invention in making his improvement in the process.
