  1. From the earliest days of the film industry, it was the practice, at the end of a day's shooting, to immediately develop the film, spool it and view it to see if it was adequate for use. If this viewing of the "rushes" showed it would not do, it would have to be re-shot the next day. Money and time wasted. What director came up with the innovation that made it possible to eliminate the "rushes" system and move things along faster? What was the innovation?

  2. That's correct, Liam. There were, uh, other reasons he never got married, but that was the one he gave. BTW, his position on the Hollywood Squares panel resulted in him being called on often. This was an asset, because his contributions were often screamingly funny.
