    It emerged that the apartment house manager was actually a retired Chief of Detectives from another city, and was an old friend of the supervisor of the star detectives of the series. He did, indeed, have some useful comments and instincts in solving the case.

  2. The performer: Not a star, but a solid citizen member of the supporting-player pool for many years. Started acting late in life, after retiring from another profession. Typecast in "olster" roles; played continuing characters in a number of series, mostly comedies.

     

    The show: Police Procedural in a 30-min format. -- this performer appeared in it several times, in different episodes. In the story at issue here, he was the apartment-house manager in a building that was the scene of a homicide. In addition to giving his information, he kept offering opinions, some quite to the point, in a manner that made the detectives focus attention on him as a possible suspect.
