I watched this classic B&W movie when I was a little girl (it broke my heart then) and I've just remembered it lately...Now, I'm desperate to find it! Please help me.
A young man, woman are falling in love when something happens to her. Maybe she falls into water(?). Either way, he believes she is dead or injured beyond recovery. He is distraught and unable to move on for some time. Time passes, he meets a woman (brunette, Spanish, Italian looking) and she helps him move on with his life. At the end of the movie, a few years have passed yet the injured woman (now recovered) searches for him, comes to his home, and she discovers he is married with children. His wife sees the longing between them. Regardless, the husband stays with his family and the woman leaves his life again.
