MrRoberts - I live in the same area as you. So I have no idea if other PBS stations show classic movies. But thank you so much for reminding me to check out their schedule on Saturday night. Since it is "hosted" by Patrick Stoner. I can't help but think it is a local show.
-
Fred - you beat me to it. Brief Encounter was shown on TCM about a year ago.
-
Maybe that is why they had her play 3 roles in the movie.

What channel was Rocky & Bullwinkle on? I used to buy so many items from the Dudley Do Right Emporium. Wish it were still open. I could use another one of their calendars.

I missed it. The line up of movies last night did not appeal to me, so I did not watch TCM. I watched Burns and Allen and the Jack Benny Show.

When I saw all three of the That's Entertainment movies were going to be on today - I wished I could take off work to watch them back to back. I caught the end of That's Entertainment Part III. And was not disappointed. Too bad That's Entertainment movies are not being repeated in the near future.

I will miss seeing William Powell movies on Thurdays.

Thanks Filmlover, for posting the beautiful poster art from all those great movies. It has been rough trying to watch all or bits and pieces of all the movies. Thankfully, I was off work and gave me a chance to enjoy them. Not getting much done but they are all worth seeing again.

What a movie, Make Way for Tomorrow, I don't think I ever saw it before. I have to agree with Top Billed the movie does stay with you.

Remember Social Security benefits are indexed for inflation.
Yes, and food and gas are no longer included in the inflation index. So we are going to have next to nothing for inflation. Those are 2 big expenses in elderly folks lives. And if they don't factor food and gas - SS increases will be mighty small. Even though their expenses will continue to increase.

Thanks for that information, WillBeFree. I knew that Nick Charles was not the "Thin Man" but I never knew who was "The Thin Man". I learn so much reading the Message Board, Thank You.
I appreciate that the programmers at TCM not only ran all the Thin Man movies, one after another but they did it on a night that many people had off work the next day. I did watch every movie but unfortunately some only long enough that I opened my eyes and tried to figure out which movie it was and then my eyes closed again. I hope TCM will run the movies again and instead of watching it in bed I will sit on hard chair.

How about The Devil Makes Three? It starred Gene Kelly. It was set in post WWII and made in 1952.

State Fair a movie made in 1945, the color of the sets in the movie are quite impressive.
-
Movie Professor - I am going to watch State Fair just to watch all the dress designs. Thank you.

I thought the years did not add up. Since it was a story from 1850's - 1860's and Dale Euson died in 2002. Appreciate you straighten me out. Thanks

Thank you, Swithin, for the link to the article about Dale Eunson. Too bad there was no mention about his brothers and sisters.

Could it be "Lemon Drop Kid"? That starred Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell. And was made in 1951.

GRRRR! Today my son is peacefully watching a soccer game. Sitting on the same spot on the same sofa. And where is dog? SLEEPING!
Next movie I want to see, I am going in the bedroom and closing the door!

For all the Alec Baldwin fans - the movie "Working Girl" is on tonight at 8:00 on the Fox Movie Channel. After he does the Esstentials on TCM at 8:00, you can switch channels to see Working Girl.

Finance - you know what - well, first let me say I am new to this dog thing - I am babysitting (with not end date in sight) my brother's dog. I made sure he was walked and feed before the movie. So I could sit and watch the movie with no interruptions. I no sooner sat down then the dog started to sit and stare at me. Then every few minutes he took his paw and kept tapping the sofa where I was sitting. I tried to put him outside - he wouldn't go. I suspect that he wanted to go for another walk. I do not know "dog talk or mannerisms" yet. So I spent the fist half of the movie trying to figure out what he wanted - and never did figure it out. I suspect he just didn't want me sitting and watching a movie.
-
I can not wait to watch Larceny Inc. I even walked the dog early so I would be home in time to see the movie from beginning to end. Thanks for the heads up.
-
I forgot it was the beginning of William Powell month. I am going to change my plans for tonight. I don't want to miss any of his movies. Now - I just hope I can stay awake for all of the movies. I can sleep some other time.

This was taken from the last several lines of the overview -
Only when Steve arrives and grows angry at Lily's behaviour does she break down and admit her fear of losing him. When Steve insists he does not know what to do about his marriage, Lily decides to force the issue and asks Jim to introduce her to Nora. Despite Jim's warnings, Lily meets Nora, but is so moved by the sincerity of Nora's affection for Steve and her real dependency upon him, that she cannot break up their marriage. Although distracted and unhappy after giving up Steve, Lily continues to work and remains resolute about her decision. One day she runs into Lee who, angered over her rebuff at his advances, tells her she ruined herself and will end up like Mary. Depressed by the accuracy of Lee's observations, Lily darkly considers ending her life, but resolves to be strong and, breaking Mary's good-luck porcelein slipper, goes on alone.
Not sure if it answered your question.
