  1. To me "It's Always Fair Weather" is not shown often enough. I could watch that scene - Gene on roller skates and singing I Like Myself over and over again. And as was mentioned before - it is on par with the scene of Gene Kelly dancing and Singing in the Rain. It just puts a smile on your face. And you can't with until the movie is on again.

  2. Well stated. I couldn't agree with you more.

Robert Osborne is quite a gem. And you can see why he has so many friends in the movie industry and beyond. You do want to spend time with him and especially want to hear what he has to say. I value his opinion. And wish TCM would show his interviews with the different guests he has spoken to through the years. You can see in the interviews how much people enjoy spending time with him. He is a real treasure.

And I must say I enjoy watching the classic movies too. If it wasn't for TCM I would miss out on seeing so many of the old movies that you never had a chance to see before. Or classic movies that you never get tired of seeing again and again.

  3. FYI - Glenn Ford's son wrote a biography about his Dad. The book was published in May, 2011. The reviews seem to be good. I found the book when I was looking for a book about Elenor Powell.

  4. I just saw that it is Freddie Bartholomew Night tonight. I am planting myself in front of the TV tonight and not moving. I can not wait to see his movies in their entirety. I have seen his movies in bits and pieces. I can not wait to see his movies. I am not getting much done today since I am also watching Basil Rathbone movies this morning.

  5. Thank you for mentioning the Betty Garrett tribute and possible mix up. Last night I rushed home from work in hope of seeing a bit of her movies. Well, I forgot all about Betty Garrett while I was watching "Shadow on the Wall". I never saw the movie before and got caught up in the suspense. I don't think I ever saw Ann Sothern play a role like that before. Your mentioning Betty Garrett made me remember the reason I rushed home from work yesterday.

Oh well, glad I watched Shadow on the Wall.

  6. I am sorry I missed the Garden of Eden. I will have to see if it is being shown again. I have a new found appreciation for silent movies. My son took me to see "The General" by Buster Keaton that was showing at a local movie theatre. They had someone talk before and after the movie - like Robert Osborne, well except he also was able to answer questions.

I am glad to see that so many silent films has been restored and TCM is showing them.

Now I just have to learn how to watch the silent movie. I find myself looking away from the screen only to look back and see that I am missing "dialogue".

  7. I enjoy watching the marathons. And in fact look forward to them. I like to watch all the different movies the "star of the day" were in. Usually you get to see movies you never saw before and movies from all different stages of their careers. No matter whether it was a drama, comedy or musical. Last Monday was Charles Coburn and I must admit I got very little done because I ended up watching and enjoying his movies. Over a month ago it was Edward Evertt Horton. And he was such a delight to watch. I will continue to watch and it seems to be a big bright spot since I have been furloughed from work on Mondays.

  8. I have to take off of work one day a week as a furlough day. I check the TCM schedule to see what day I want to take off. I also try and do any errands around the movies I want to watch. I am so glad that TCM puts out the schedule months in advance.

I have also stayed up entire nights to watch movies that I wanted to see. And then have gone to work with no sleep.

  9. I got up just to watch Born to Dance this morning. I just love to see Eleanor Powell and Jimmy Stewart together. They both had such special talents that come across well on the screen.

And funny that you mentioned Buddy Ebsen. When he was dancing one of the dance routines, I thought about the Wizard of Oz too. I was thinking I could see him doing that dance as the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz. His legs looked like rubber. It is sad the way things worked out.

But also Robert Osbourne mentioned that Eleanor Powell was told she was scheduled to be in a "Broadway Melody" movie. Then Louie B Mayer decided to cast a female that he "favored" and wanted to be his girlfriend. So Eleanor was told she wouldn't be cast in the movie. She then quit the movies. It is sad that her career in movies didn't last longer.

  10. I am glad you mentioned that it was his birthday yesterday. We had the easy part. Freddie Bartholomew doing such a good job in all the roles that he played. The easy part is enjoying watching him in those movies. He was such a likeable chap. You enjoy watching his mvoies every time they are on - no matter how many times you have seen the movie.

  11. Thank you so much. I had seen the name Mark Stevens in the credits. But couldn't figure out if that was him. He was listed as an actor but when I read his biography I saw he was also a singer. But they dubbed his voice for the movie - go figure.

I will now try and find Kenny Baker's recordings. Again thank you.

  12. I just read a short biography about him . WHAT A SAD LIFE! He and his money fought at least six lawsuits his mother brought against him. She wanted part of his money since he was the second highest child actor for several years in the 1930's. She had abandoned him when he was 3 years old and left him with her sister. He broke his back while he was in the Air Force during WWII. He later married a woman who at the time was trying to escape deportation and married him because he was an American Citizen and she wanted to remain in this country. Then he was living in his car in Brooklyn, NY. When he got back on his feet he divorced his first wife. And during all this time he had to deal with some mental issues.

He had his troubles and it seemed like he was getting his life back in order when he got sick with emphysema. Hope TCM has a Freddie Bartholomew Day. He was a delight to watch.

  13. Unfortunatley I did not realize the entire day was Edward Everett Horton movies. But as soon as I saw him I had to check out the movies. I had not seen several of the movies before. I wish I had DVRed them.

I am a fan of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies and first saw him as an actor in those movies. I had been a fan of Edward Everett Horton's voice since Fractured Fairy Tales. Watching the complete seasons of Rocky and Bullwinkle you enjoy the quick wit of the writing all over again. Too bad the Dudley Doo Right Emporium closed. I even got the book of Factured Fairy Tales. I am so glad so many other people enjoy watching him, too.
