Hi I just wanted to ask people, maybe I am alone in this, but in what I've seen of the artist ( the film with all the oscar noms) it totally turns me off. It looks way too stylized for one thing and I don't think it is doing any sort of tribute to classic films at all. Simply taking the gloss of classic film era and re-imagining it for today's audiences who aren't interested in learning the true classics. Also, I am suprised no one has pointed out that the subplot is exactly like a star is born. Frankly I don't see the purpose of making a silent film today and if they are trying to do a tribute to silents, why are they making it a musical? Who heard of a silent musical? They did not do tap dance routines like that in silents. It just really annoys me, the whole film. Is there anyone out there who is anything other than rapturous about "the Artist"? AM

I wanted to comment that I applaud TCM for doing programming birthday tributes to various actors ( actresses) on their birthdays and I will admit I have not been following TCM online or the channel for all that long ( about a year or so) so perhaps I have missed something, but I wanted to mention that I rather disappointed not to see any tribute programming to William Holden on April 17th. I noticed acknowledgement for many actors recently, many that are lesser known and as I mentioned maybe there has been a tribute in previous years, still I think it would've been a nice gesture. There numerous films of his that are difficult to find and doing a tribute one give many people a chance to view these rarely seen films. Alison
