  1. I recently taped COMPLICATED WOMEN, and in it, there is a film clip of a silent film with Norma Shearer. In it, Norma is wearing a spangly gown, and decends down a big staircase (on a stage perhaps?) holding a huge, white fan. Shearer looks nervous, as she climbs down the stairs. Does anyone know the name of this film? Often in shows like COMPLICATED WOMEN teasers of movies not available (like STORY OF TEMPLE DRAKE) are thrown in. Perhaps this is one of them. And if you know the title, has it been shown on TCM? I'm sure since Shearer's in it, it has to be an MGM picture.
  2. Sure! And not only do I think TCM should show B film noir movies, but I'd love to see B pre-Codes too. I'm sure TCM has loads of not very well known or acted B-movies of all genres in their vaults. Well, okay now, we've seen some of these movies hundreds of times. I occassionally feel that a "new" B movie would be better than one I taped 15 years ago--and have seen hundreds of times since.
  3. Johnny--I forgot about his "bustline" getting caught in the phonograph. Actually, the whole darn movie is funny, and I need to go find my copy, and WATCH IT AGAIN!
  4. Love Crazy is a good guess, but wrong. Go over to trivia & guess again! This time it's slow going!
  5. BTW--check out that website, davidmanners.com. There are filmographies for many of his films, and great photos.
  6. Paty, seems like I remember that you & I also liked another babe--Johnny Mack Brown! What's new on the Johnny Mack Brown front?? I haven't seen/heard him mentioned lately. I saw him with Gable & Harlow in THE SECRET SIX not too long ago, and I loved his southern drawl! He & Gable played great friends, although rivals, in this movie.
  7. I think I bought my copy for about 99 cents (factory sealed) at a discount store. What a bargain!
  8. I didn't know David Manners had a website! I'm going for a visit today! You know, he sort of just walked away from his film career too. Gosh, how sad. I wonder if he'd moved into character parts?
  9. I absolutely LOVE this movie! When I first saw it I thought, "Is the whole movie going to take place on the apartment steps?" And by golly it does, too! I love all the attention to the little details! Of course I wouldn't know what NYC was like in 1931, this is exactly what I would imagine life to have been like. Was Marcia Mae Jones one of the little kids who gets evicted from the apartment building? I can't remember.
  10. I'd also say it was LOVE CRAZY. There are so many funny things about that movie! I like it when Wm. Powell gets caught in the elevator and the dog licks his face. Also, when he gets Jack Carson thrown into the funny farm for acting like "Hiawatha."
  11. I love David Manners! So classically blond and handsome!
  12. I just finished watching WEST OF BROADWAY, and when it ended, I rewound the tape to figure out who'd played "Dot." She was lovely & wonderful. Thanks for posting her bio! I plan to visit her website soon!
  13. I have such a hard time with this film because I am so distracted by the gorgeousness of DAVID MANNERS, and the acting ability of RICHARD BARTHLEMESS. But seriously, you are right--they all act like she's got IT, but she doesn't give a hoot about them. I wondered if Chandler's character was suppose to be a drug addict or alcoholic. Hmmm...
  14. Sorry, wrong movie. Clue #3: Art Deco settings.
  15. I knew George Clooney had a pig named Max, but I knew that answer wouldn't fly!
  16. Regarding Thelma Todd: Is her murder considered solved or unsolved? I read Andy Edmonds book many years ago, where she proposed a theory that solves it. However, it's only a theory. Anybody know?
  17. Classicsfan, I sounded mad in the last post--but I'm not! Just wanted to explain that I was checking in throughout the last 24 hours or so. No offense meant.
  18. Where am I? Shoot, I posted this on Tuesday, spent most of the day Wednesday (even at work) checking on it and no one had even posted anything! I guess I took the evening off! Clue #2: Hubby's fling comes to the party.
  19. Here's one from BLAZING SADDLES: Taggert: What in the wide, wide world of sports is a goin' on around here?
  20. I thought she was a weird character too. I can't remember, are any of the men attracted to her? Richard Barthlemess' character, maybe. Wasn't he the one who's hands were injured?
  21. I didn't intend to be mean spirited. Sorry to offend you.
