Mongo, I want to change the topic here a little. Last night I was surfing around on a very well-done silent film website. Under their FAQs, it said that there were a few child stars from the 20's still alive but that was all. I immediately emailed them that Anita Page (Our Dancing Daughters) was still alive and appearing in films! Do you know of any other adult film stars from the silent era still alive? I know most would be in their mid 90's by now, but I was curious.

I read about 1/2 way through the GWTW sequel and quit! It was not what I'd expected at all. I was vastly disappointed, but should have known better! I blame only myself.

I believe a few years back I did request "Trouble in Paradise," and it did eventually get shown. I'm sure, though, I'm not the only one to request this gem, though!

Anne Baxter?

Who's looking forward to AFI's 100 Quotes?
alix1929 replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
I will probably watch, but I'm always amazed at the films left out of "Top 100" shows or lists. Plus, they tend to use films from the last 20 years more than a retrospect of films since the beginning of movie history. -
GWTWbooklover, I didn't know Will Benteen was the original "speaker" of the "askin' ain't gettin'" line in the movie. His was a character that didn't make the movie. Sort of too bad, the plot between Careen & Suellen was interesting. Still a movie can't include everything from a book. I also think, even though the movie strayed from the book, it is still fairly true to the thread of the book. Re: Scarlett's children in the book. Who were they, and who were their fathers? I know she had several, but can't remember any but Bonnie Blue & Ella. Re: Archie. I always wondered why he wasn't in the movie. Any thoughts?

Nope. Clue #2: Rich guy.

Wow! Peyton Place was a shot in the dark! I've never played this version of 21 questions, so I hope I do it right. Clue #1: Middle class girl

My choices: Pride & Predjudice (adaptation of a classic novel) Shop Around the Corner (love story) Baby Face or Red Dust (gritty pre-Code) The Crowd (excellent silent) Snow White or Bambi (full feature animated) That's sort of a wide variety of films.

Peyton Place?

I absolutely LOVE this movie! It's Greer Garson as "Paula" in Random Harvest.
-
Eddie Bartlett in "The Roaring Twenties."
-
Arsene Lupin?

The TCM bio on Frances Marion sure was good!
-
Kelsea, I also like the scene where Bonnie has died and Melanie comes to comfort Rhett. Gable was wonderful in that scene.

Is it known if any actresses served in any capacity? Were there even any military branches that took women back then??? I know many women served as nurses during wars, did any actresses serve in this way? I think I remember Frances Marion, writer, served in WWI as a war correspondent.

Larry, I'll chat about GWTW with ya! What are your favorites from GWTW? Favorite line: Here's mine -- It comes from Pork (butler) when Miss Scarlett tells him she's going to ask Ashley for the tax money: "Askin' ain't gettin'" Gosh, isn't that the truth"??? Favorite dress: Mine--the dress Scarlett wore to the Twelve Oaks BBQ. Most annoying character: Mine -- India Wilkes

Who is greater--Bette Davis or Katharine Hepburn?
alix1929 replied to bhryun's topic in General Discussions
Best between Davis & Hepburn? Bette Davis. I usually find Hepburn annoying in some way, although I think she was an excellent actress. -
Ruby Keeler was very cute! I agree with whoever said she made a good contrast between more worldly characters. She could have never pulled off Aline MacMahon or Joan Blondell roles. Nor could she have wise cracked like Ginger Rogers. She played Miss Innocent perfectly. And yes, I think being Al Jolson's girl might have had a little to do with it.

...and as "star of the month" I wish they'd show some of his more obscure pictures. One I like, and I think I've only seen listed once (the one time I caught it on video) is called UNDER EIGHTEEN. I also like THE MATCH KING, and it does appear in the listing once in awhile.

I would love to see Joan in all her wonderful Adrian clothes. The stills from this film show her to be FABULOUS. She certainly could wear clothes well!

Should John Wayne's birthday be a national holiday?

No. 'Nuff said.
