In fact, a big reason I've dragged my feet over seeing The Rules of the Game is because I've been forewarned that there's a hunting sequence that's going to be brutal on me. And as has been well-established, I'm a coward - Wizard of Oz lion-level.

That ending *is* sad. especially when butch tells sundance to think about how great australia is going to be, even though they both know its over for them. midnight cowboy came out that same year, that ending really got to me the first time i saw it.

nice post. i like the obscure movies from the sixties that tcm rarely shows but i agree with you, that whole 30's 40's entertainment era had a certain level of class that just doesn't exist anymore.

Bing Crosby: I know all that.
Bob Hope: Yeah, but the people who came in the middle of the picture don't.
Bing Crosby: You mean they missed my song?

the blinds were actually common on some taxi cabs of that time. i'm glad that they went with the blinds instead of fake traffic. this is one of the greatest scenes of all time.

they should never remake Scarface (1932) like EVER
-
phantom of the opera starring lon chaney. i hope they never try to remake that movie. also if they tried to remake frankenstein without boris carloff that would be awful. i also hope they never remake the wizard of oz (1925) that silent movie was a classic, i can't think of any other actress that could ever play dorthy better than Dorthy Dwan. also i hope they never remake king kong (1933)
