  1. I like old movies for most of the same reasons that many people have already mentioned.

They show you another time, another way to be. I know movies are usually idyllic, but it seems that things used to be sweeter, gentler, slower. People spoke with intelligence & manners. The clothes & hair styles were great & for heaven sakes who doesn't love pretty much every apartment the've seen in an old movie?

And it's interesting to see the progression of film as well. Times have changed & not for better in all areas. Honestly, my car could turn into a robot & start shooting laser beams at deformed aliens right in front of me & I probably wouldn't bat an eye! But, people dressing up for dinner, men being chivalrous, people speaking without cussing incessantly....now THAT shocks me! It's sad but true. Making things bigger & badder doesn't always mean better. Most old movies deal with actual plot lines & emotions & make things less obvious so you actually have to think for a little bit. It's refreshing. Not to say that there aren't movies that have beneffited from technology, of course.

In addition to that, they remind me of happy times in my own past. The days I stayed home sick from school & my mom would take care of me & we'd watch old movies together. We had the version of Pride & Prejudice with Olivier & Garson in it on VHS. One of my first crushes ever was Mr. Darcy....and that was kindergarten (he still is for the record). And that book is one of my favorites, and my late grandfathers, too. It was nice to have that in common.

There are as many reasons to love old movies as there are seconds in a day, but I won't keep carrying on. Just know that I truly appreciate TCM for everything it does for us & I appreciate my fellow movie lovers as well!
