  1. @vallo13 Thanks for that list! It adds the first 30s-40s star that I know of to the list: Johnny Weismuller! Some of the names on the list weren't accurate. Clint Eastwood for example turns up on those lists a lot because he's been interested in health foods, but according to the man himself he's neither a vegan nor a vegetarian. With that in mind I did a quick Google search on Johnny Weismuller vegetarian, and found quite a number of sites which seemed to confirm it. I'll do more research later when I have more time, but it looks like a good find for the list. Thanks for sharing that link!

@finance Brigitte Bardot became a vegetarian and an animal rights activist due to her life long love of animals, rather than for health reasons. So since health wasn't the deciding factor, that may explain why she smoked. Of course in that generation attitudes were different about cigarettes. There were stars obsessed with health, fitness and exercise... who smoked. Does she still smoke though? That might be something else I should look up when I have more time.

  2. In the silent film era there were at least 3 stars who became vegetarian that I know of (Mary Pickford, George Arliss and Gloria Swanson). I know of a few from the 1950s (Brigitte Bardot, Doris Day), but I don't know of any from the 1930s-1940s. Can anyone fill in the gaps? Or add to the other classic era categories?
