Clint Eastwood's American Sniper is 1,000 times more violent than A Clockwork Orange IMHO.

Some who moan about bad new TCM don't even subscribe to it. Why not go and moan somewhere else.

Wednesday, October 14
9:30 a.m. La Boheme (1926). I want to check out this King Vidor film with Lillian Gish
midnight. A Clockwork Orange (1971). IMHO a truly great innovative film. Features wonderful performances by two recently departed actors, Warren Clarke and Aubrey Morris.
I hope nobody tunes into A Clockwork Orange at one a.m. then complains that it wasn't censored!

No business airing?
What a snobby thing to say.
Quite alright for all those half-a-star singing cowboy movies and lame batman serials and 'Clambake'-type crapfests to be run on TCM but not a reasonably amusing Amy Heckerling hit.
Wish they had chosen 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' - probably my favorite Heckerling movie ever - but we can get that another time.
Absolutely agree. Try looking at this from a historical perspective as well.
This was all too often the only type of film that women were allowed to do. Rom coms and such.
Why not take a look at them too?
It may not be my cup of tea, but neither are Joe E. Brown movies.

He was caught trying to enter the U.S from Canada. He fled to Canada in 2010 while being sought for felony vandalism. This is "the last detail" that I have.
He was remanded in Montreal a few days ago on one of his immigration appearances then crossed the border to give himself up.
My guess is our gov't wasn't going to offer him asylum so he decided to go back and face the music.
I believe he said as much when interviewed but I don't know the whole story.
Sad, anyway. Incredibly talented actor. I worked with him once.

I'm tempted to come up with posts just for the sake of coming up with posts, but I won't.
You can (and probably will) say that again!

If this thread continues on this track, it will itself disappear.
18 more posts to go DGF!!! How's that for changing the topic?
Are you going to give us at least a two-page essay of some kind on number 50,000?

The flip side of this is that the people making the guns and bombs and dragging poor suckers into war have already taken over the country.
And media controls the perceptions of freedom.

Elstree 1976 (UK 2015) Jon Spira.
The behind-the-scenes look at the making of Stars Wars at Elstree studios from the perspective of ..."ten of those bit performers."

If you watch TRIUMPH OF THE WILL and turn off the sound entirely, and read all the English subtitles that translate each of Hitler’s speeches. You will read typical political speeches, just like the kind we hear in the US every day..... “We’ll make Germany great again! We’ll put everyone to work. We’ll build a lot of good stuff (highways, cars, etc). Nobody will go hungry. Every German family will be happy. We’ll all work together to achieve this goal, and we’ll make the New Germany last a thousand years!!”

Tuesday, October 13
10:30 a.m. Strangers May Kiss (1931). I haven’t seen this Norma Shearer, Robert Montgomery film before and it looks interesting.
-
One of these days I'm gonna have to watch that 'Triumph of the Will' thing. I keep hearing that it's the most monstrously great propaganda film of all time. Sounds like something I should see before I die.
In some ways it is the greatest horror movie of all time. Near perfect in that regard.

I also missed mentioning the screening of the restored Sherlock Holmes (1916) 108m., by Arthur Berthelet and featuring William Gillette as Holmes. The program notes add "It was based on the popular play by William Gillette ... Gillette made a unique contribution to our image of how Holmes looks and to the development of the character of Moriarty."
The film was only just found in the collection of La Cinematheque Francaise in 2014.

Lydecker--you make it sound like a crossword puzzle (those are addictive--for me, anyway). Is it That uncomplicated--you know the answers or you don't?
BTW--congrats everyone on their schedules--Very tough to choose.

The broad strokes game plan and lists of potential films was the most fun for me.
The disciplined part is the sacrifices you then have to make to either keep to the premiere limit or the timing of the films. Many a time I wanted to fit a square peg into a round hole but had to make a few compromises. And in my final proofing I found that I was out by 15 minutes on three different occasions and had to rip the whole thing apart.
You should give it a go for sure. If like me, once you've done a rough draft you will probably want to see it through to see if it works and what it actually looks like.

Hey, I love women and all but this is a little too much!
Just in Canada, james. TCM must have saved about $120.
And we do have many subscribers up here.
-
Congratulations Speedracer5!
Now you have your work cut out for you. : )
Lydecker, thank you for the great challenge and for all of those helpful tips you posted. I would have been lost in my first challenge without them.
I would like to encourage some of our other members to give the next challenge a go. I must say that you do learn quite a bit by doing one of these. And our TCM programmers should take a look at them too!
Cheers.

Wrestling Ernest Hemingway (1993) has been bumped from the Canadian schedule on Oct 20/21 at 3:45 a.m. in favour of yet another showing of The Women (1939).

Hello jkgibb,
I don't think people are ignoring your good thread. It is just that many people have already commented on this topic in a similar thread called:
TCM Unveils "Let's Movie" Ad Campaign
Sept 1 was the last post for that thread.

I'm a big fan of both Hitchcock and Truffaut so this documentary is very appealing to me.
Here's the trailer:
What a fantastic trailer! Thank you Holden. Now I am dying to see this film even more.
I have a copy of the book which I may reread too.
This is a natural for a TCM premiere.

"She could be 99 for all I know."
- Richard Burton when asked how old Olivia de Havilland is in My Cousin Rachel (1952)

au contraire, dear Bogie,
The thread is about forms of "censorship" in general, and "censorship" within these boards in particular.
Leni, could be a poster child for political censorship, and therefore aptly applies as an example of the first category.
"Disappearing posts and threads" ??
This isn't about scheduling.

Monday, October 12
5:30 p.m. Elevator to the Gallows (1958). I’d like to give this Jeanne Moreau film another shot. I found it so-so the first time around many years ago.
-
We're getting very off-topic by bringing Leni Reifenstahl into this thread too.
-
I might add that the 'discussion' really was never heated in any way. But it was developing into a "circle" argument like always where nothing would ever be resolved.
