7:15 a.m. Street Girl (1929) with Betty Compson. Haven’t seen this one.
10 p.m. Girlfriends (1978). Looks good
11:45 p.m. Valley Girl (1983) Worth a look
3:15 a.m. Border Radio (1987). Allison Anders’ debut film.
The Women in Film nights are the saving grace of this month.

I said this to see if I would get someone's goat, and I did.
Oh, gosh. Oh, golly. Has someone taken my goat?
-
I pronounce his name "Kay-ear" - "Duel-A".
Key-air
-
Not to mention WEST SIDE STORY and THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL.
Without going through the time to list any specific movies, I think it's safe to add BILLY WILDER and STEVEN SPEILBERG to the diversity list.
Getting back To Keir.................
I posted this query before, but can't really recall if or how it was settled------
I've heard his last name, by various movie "hosts" over the years pronounced both; "DOO-YAY" and "DOO-LAY" and throw in "DULL-AYE" for good measure.
So, WHAT is it?
Sepiatone
None of the above. DUEL-YA!

Brian DePalma's "Obsession" (1976)
"Notorious" (1946)--Ingrid Bergman is obsessed over by Cary Grant & Claude Rains, & Alfred Hitchcock has her photographed adoringly.
"Gone With the Wind" (1939)--Scarlett (Vivien Leigh) obssesses over Rhett (Clark Gable) most of the film.
"Jezebel" (1938)--Bette Davis schemes to make Henry Fonda Hers the movie long.
"Juarez" (1939)--in a subplot, Bette Davis as Carlotta goes mad over Brian Aherne's Maximilian
Is that what he meant by obsessive quality in your imagination"?
It was unclear.
I cannot say that I am personally obsessed by any romantic movie.

10:30 p.m. Citizen Kane. Simply the best.

I loved war movies and Vic Morrow's Combat as a kid. At the time I thought I had missed out on something big. Thankfully that was just a childish phase that I grew out of. But I wouldn't be surprised if some kids of the sixties grew up and volunteered for Viet Nam because of that sensibility.

Sounds like someone has it in for TCM. That's what some of us have been saying all along. A banned poster and a few of the posters friends that post on the bds. (replenishing forces) The Korean nonsense only showed up a short time ago, maybe a month or 2 was the first time. This stuff is different than the regular stupid spams we've been getting for years.
That quote you posted I think does not sound like a computer generated generic nuissance thing. Sounds like an angry nut.
And it may be from someone TRYING to take credit for this nonsense.

Well if anyone wondered what the other stuff looked like, here it is at present.
Can you imagine 50 full pages of it! that's what happened this morning.
-
I could see him being off the air completely and only showing up at the "events" (film festival & cruise) in the not too distant future.
And what a great job that would be at his age.

3 a.m. I was really looking forward to a rare showing of Sparrows Can’t Sing (1963) with Barbara Windsor and Roy Kinnear but then that was bumped from the Canadian schedule in favour of Brotherly Love (1970). Brotherly Love looked interesting in its own right but ALL of this is now out the window with yet another screening of The Bigamist (1953) in both Canada and the U.S.
I guess they couldn't get Sparrows for the U.S. too and decided to give us both The Bigamist.

Interesting point----How many show business personalities can you name who retired on top, and stayed retired? Cary Grant? Johnny Carson?.
Never mind personalities! Think about the technicians. Short shelf life.

If he retires from show biz by choice he will be one of the lucky ones.
As Michael Caine once said, "You don't retire from show business. It retires from you."

I didn't see any of the purported "spam" either.
Lucky me, eh?
Yeah, it does get annoying, and I neither know the how or even MORE mystifying, the WHY of such things.
Anyway, it's usually pretty easy to ignore in this forum, and generally doesn't cause any real problems, so, like one usually does with a kid throwing a tantrum, just ignore it and it'll stop.
Don't think that will fully work, but it might slow it down a bit.

This was 50 plus pages in the General Discussion forum alone. Other forums too.

Were these new posters doing the spamming or did you recognize any users who has previously posted non-spam messages?
They were just new made-up names that didn't make a lot of sense. Just like the Asian SPAM we have been used to getting. But instead of 3 posts we got about 1,000 or so I would say for about 5 + hours.

I believe that it may have been automated script running on one computer. I suspect purpose was to post same message quickly on hundreds or thousands of forums but that it became stuck on TCM forum for some reason. The posts were appearing so quickly that I believe no one person could have been typing that fast.
I'm not sure how all of this works. I don't call myself the 'global village idiot' for nothing.
BUT, the spammer first has to create a named account in order to post to our forum. That is what I meant when I said 4 to 6 registered users were spamming. It was 4 to 6 different names that accounted for the 50 + pages of spam.
Perhaps you are right that the intention was not for it to carry on that long, but who knows?
I don't suspect we will hear from the moderator, or will we? ...

This isn't the first time this type of spam has shown up. A couple of weeks ago there was Korean or Chinese spam that also showed up. Many of us think it's either a banned poster or one that has problems with alot of posters on the bds. There was also some in English and a weird one in off topic chit chat.
This was almost 60 pages in the general Discussion section alone. It was also going on in other TCM forums.
About 4 to 6 newly registered users were posting constantly. Granted, it could be one person with 4 or 5 machines but it appeared too well organized and 'foreign' for it to be a disgruntled person IMHO.

I hope you aren't describing the typical TCM poster with this description?

I think there were at least 4 registered posters that were spamming at the same time. Could be one person with 4 or more accounts. I wonder if the mods have a way of tracing the attack?

18 pages of SPAM and counting

The movies certainly made smoking look cool.

Some great lines there. Why the **** after Birdie? She didn't have a last name in the film that I can recall.
Birdie Conan, but with a double 'o'

7:15 a.m. The Southerner (1945) by Jean Renoir is a good bet. J. Carroll Naish is pretty good in it.
9 a.m. Of Mice and Men (1939) featuring Aaron Copland’s amazing score.
11 a.m. Cabin In the Cotton (1932). An early Bette Davis that I would like a copy of.
3 a.m. Splendor (1935) with Miriam Hopkins. One of her best films actually. I haven’t seen this one in some time.

Otto Sander won't . . . but the great thespian TOBY DICKMAN, Jr. is on track to be SOTM for Jan.
See his starring roles in these great cinematic abominations:
BLOOD SAUSAGE: The Casserole Movie
I believe this went under the title Black Pudding: An Offal Experience in Great Britain.

And to keep their 'views' and 'replies' count going for some insane egotistical reason
And someone is not taking their own advice about butting out and staying away from threads with topics they don't agree with.

Otto appeared in The Tin Drum too which was on TCM not long ago.
