  1. Yes, absolutely right. It is replacing Band of Outsiders. Personally I am okay with that as I have a copy of that film already! I think El Casado may have been on TCM before?
  2. I'm pretty sure they meant The Road Home (1999) by Zhang Yimou. Which IMHO was a disappointment given so many other Yimou films that were very good, such as Raise the Red Lantern (1990); Ju Dou (1990); The Story of Qui Ju (1992); and To Live (1994).
  3. The Longest Night (1972) with David Janssen and James Farentino was a pretty good TVM.
  4. Sunday, June 28 6 a.m. Dodsworth (1936) with Walter Huston and Ruth Chatterton. Time for a Dodsworth refresher. 2 a.m. El Casado Casa Quiere (1950) Have to catch this Mexican film that I have never seen. *In Canada only as my friend mr6666 has pointed out.
  5. I've only seen a handful of Laura Antonelli (1941-2015) films. Visconti's L'Innocente (1976) may have been a career highlight. But as far an underrated gems go Ms. Antonelli was very good in Lovers and Other Relatives (1974) and Tigers In Lipstick (1979).
  6. It's hard to imagine Koyaanisqatsi without the Phillip Glass score. When I saw Dracula (1931) with the new Glass score it really game it a new dimension and made Lugosi's performance all that more hypnotic.
  7. I fess up. That was me. 12 years old at the time. Had to sneak in. Memory is a little hazy but I thought I had seen them. Wowsers.
  8. It had a run on a Canadian movie channel back in the vhs days. I didn't think it was terrific by any means but I'd like to see it again mainly for Alan Bates. It seems unavailable on dvd but I believe that there may be bootleg tv dubs floating around. Who would think that a Frankenheimer film would somehow get tied up in rights issues?
  9. Laughing Gravy - not to be confused with the dog of the same name.
  10. The Mystery of Picasso (1956) by H.G. Clouzot may have been a bit bland without the wonderful Georges Auric score.
  11. Saturday, June 27 6 a.m. Mission to Moscow (1943) with Walter Huston and Ann Harding. This is the one for me today. 10 a.m. Batman and Robin: Batman Takes Over (1949) Man there are a lot of these Batman serials. 10:30 Maybe when Bomba runs out of steam TCM would start showing the Santo Mexican wrestling movies in this slot? 3:15 a.m. Zotz! (1962) with Tom Poston. Even as a 7 year-old I thought this movie stunk.
  12. Try to catch Marlowe Friday, July 3/4 at 4:30 a.m. It features an appearance by Bruce Lee.
  13. I guess Torpio Rising is too underground even for TCM.
  14. Tuesday June 30th has Auntie Mame (1958) followed by Mame (1974). This sounds worse than water-boarding.
  15. I'm so sorry to hear this. I just mentioned her yesterday in a post where I thought she would have been a good candidate for a TCM pin up girl film. A true beauty.
  16. Mine would never be complete but if offering a wish list I would start with ... Bad Girl (1931) The Barker (1928) The Biscuit Eater (1940) Bulldog Drummond (1929) Clair de Femme (1979) Come Fill the Cup (1951) Condemned (1929) East Lynne (1931) Escape Me Never (1935) The Fixer (1968) Gaby a True Story (1987) Harvest (1937) The Hounds of Notre Dame (1980) Huckleberry Finn (1931) If I Had a Million (1932) Justice Is Done (1950) The Masquerader (1933) The Men of Tohoku (1957) Mr. Patman (1980) The Noose (1928) Paper Lion (1968) The Patent Leather Kid (1927) The Racket (1928) The Rat Race (1960) Rich Kids (1979) Sarah and Son (1930) The Senator Was Indiscreet (1947) A Ship Comes In (1928) Thunderbolt (1929) Tom Sawyer (1930) The Trespasser (1929) The Valiant (1929) Valiant Is the Word For Carrie (1936) When My Baby Smiles at Me (1948) White Banners (1938) The White Parade (1934) A Woman's Tale (1991)
  17. Friday June 26 I’ve seen just about all of these but would like to now grab some copies of 2:45 pm Possessed (1947) 8 p.m. The Mask of Dimitrios (1944) and 3 a.m. Point Blank (1967)
  18. Ravi Shankar's score for Pather Panchali (1955) helps transform that film into pure film poetry. The scene where the mother tells the returning father of their daughter's death gives me goose flesh just thinking about it. Unbelievable! It was Satyajit Ray's very first film and pretty well near Shankar's too.
  19. De Sica is my favourite Italian director too. I feel very fortunate that Toronto is doing a complete retrospective of his work this August including the early films in which he appeared as a matinee idol.
  20. Here's a question for you. How much of the brain does a fly use?
  21. This is probably the Pathe symbol. Harold Greenburg and Astral owned Pathe Canada. They had a lab and a mixing studio in Toronto and another in Montreal. You see Pathe on the old French gramophone records. I used to have a Pathe tshirt but it eventually became the size of a postage stamp.
  22. Makes absolute perfect sense to me. And way more believable than that contemporary film scenario that Dargo came up with that had the Leafs in a Stanley Cup final.
  23. Get a Mac. Zero Spam. Plus I own a few shares. Oh, but I do get the occasional email from distant relatives that I didn't know I had in Nigeria informing me that I have a sizeable inheritance to collect. Just too darned busy to get around to following up.
