Do you mean The Road Back ('37)? I'd like to see that too.
I'm pretty sure they meant The Road Home (1999) by Zhang Yimou. Which IMHO was a disappointment given so many other Yimou films that were very good, such as Raise the Red Lantern (1990); Ju Dou (1990); The Story of Qui Ju (1992); and To Live (1994).

The Longest Night (1972) with David Janssen and James Farentino was a pretty good TVM.

Sunday, June 28
6 a.m. Dodsworth (1936) with Walter Huston and Ruth Chatterton. Time for a Dodsworth refresher.
2 a.m. El Casado Casa Quiere (1950) Have to catch this Mexican film that I have never seen. *In Canada only as my friend mr6666 has pointed out.

In both pics they have Lorre standing on something. Lorre is a small man I believe, Francen is probably on the taller side. I guess they have to something. At least they didn't cut off Francen's legs. Or is Lorre wearing stilts?
He's sitting down.

I've only seen a handful of Laura Antonelli (1941-2015) films. Visconti's L'Innocente (1976) may have been a career highlight.
But as far an underrated gems go Ms. Antonelli was very good in Lovers and Other Relatives (1974) and Tigers In Lipstick (1979).

You have no idea what you're talking about. Getting the rights is more complicated than just saying they want to. It can take months or even years to clear the rights to certain films.
Take Hot Spell for example ...

It's hard to imagine Koyaanisqatsi without the Phillip Glass score.
When I saw Dracula (1931) with the new Glass score it really game it a new dimension and made Lugosi's performance all that more hypnotic.

I fess up. That was me. 12 years old at the time. Had to sneak in. Memory is a little hazy but I thought I had seen them. Wowsers.

I asked on the boards here about having The Fixer on TCM back in 2006 or 2007 and I got a reply saying that they can't get it for TCM USA even though it's an MGM British Studio production, that it's unavailable.
It had a run on a Canadian movie channel back in the vhs days. I didn't think it was terrific by any means but I'd like to see it again mainly for Alan Bates.
It seems unavailable on dvd but I believe that there may be bootleg tv dubs floating around.
Who would think that a Frankenheimer film would somehow get tied up in rights issues?

Laughing Gravy

The Mystery of Picasso (1956) by H.G. Clouzot may have been a bit bland without the wonderful Georges Auric score.

Saturday, June 27
6 a.m. Mission to Moscow (1943) with Walter Huston and Ann Harding. This is the one for me today.
10 a.m. Batman and Robin: Batman Takes Over (1949) Man there are a lot of these Batman serials.
10:30 Maybe when Bomba runs out of steam TCM would start showing the Santo Mexican wrestling movies in this slot?
3:15 a.m. Zotz! (1962) with Tom Poston. Even as a 7 year-old I thought this movie stunk.

Try to catch Marlowe Friday, July 3/4 at 4:30 a.m. It features an appearance by Bruce Lee.

Tor Johnson wasn't just the big star of expensive, crowd-pleasing blockbusters, but in his days as a freelancer, on occasion he would actively seek out edgier, indie, and in general smaller scope films, to balance out the big ticket items. Possibly in anticipation of the Supreme Court ruling in anticipation of marriage equality, some of these titles have popped into the Top Ten.
1.
2. THE CHRISTINE TORGENSON STORY
3. TOR'S CERTAIN SUMMER
4. FORTUNE AND TOR'S EYES
5. PHILATORPHIA
6. LA CAGE AUX TOR
7. THE ADVENTURES OF TORSCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT
8. MAMBO ITORLIANO
9. TORBACK MOUNTAIN
1O. TOR WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING JULIE NEWTOR
I guess Torpio Rising is too underground even for TCM.

Tuesday June 30th has Auntie Mame (1958) followed by Mame (1974).
This sounds worse than water-boarding.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I just mentioned her yesterday in a post where I thought she would have been a good candidate for a TCM pin up girl film.
A true beauty.

Ravi Shankar's score for Pather Panchali (1955) helps transform that film into pure film poetry.
The scene where the mother tells the returning father of their daughter's death gives me goose flesh just thinking about it. Unbelievable!
It was Satyajit Ray's very first film and pretty well near Shankar's too.

After many years i must admit i really have a problem with Italian directors the known ones, the only one i care about is Vittorio De Sica, what a great talent,i think the only movie i did not like by him is Woman times Seven,in most of his movies he shows sensibility and realism, i have seen most of their films not just one or 2 by each.Blow up is the only one i liked by Antonionni,Fellini maybe one or two at the most,i like other Italian directors not very well known in the 70's and 80's,i have diversified tastes,French,German,Japanese etc but the famed Italian directors, i must admit, after so many years, the celebrated ones for me are either boring or not very interesting, and believe me i still try to find out what the fuss is all about.I realized this only this year!
De Sica is my favourite Italian director too. I feel very fortunate that Toronto is doing a complete retrospective of his work this August including the early films in which he appeared as a matinee idol.

Makes a lot of scene. Also, since we only use about 20% of our brain, the man had a lot of brain matter to share with that fly.
Here's a question for you. How much of the brain does a fly use?

♦ A few Canadian video labels ♦
Astral Video (my favorite label; the blue-rooster-in-a-blue-circle).
This is probably the Pathe symbol. Harold Greenburg and Astral owned Pathe Canada. They had a lab and a mixing studio in Toronto and another in Montreal.
You see Pathe on the old French gramophone records.
I used to have a Pathe tshirt but it eventually became the size of a postage stamp.

For some reason, the brain that was contained within the giant fly head - or at least, the mind, if there's a difference - was human. Human enough to know what needed to be done ("need fly"). The fly with the little human head, on the other hand, was capable of voicing its emotions in human language ("help me").
The only logical conclusion is that most of the brain material was retained by the scientist - locked within the fly head, but at least a little of that brain material made it into the human head of the fly.
Makes absolute perfect sense to me. And way more believable than that contemporary film scenario that Dargo came up with that had the Leafs in a Stanley Cup final.

I get about 200 spam E-mails a day. Does anyone else get that many?
Get a Mac. Zero Spam.
Plus I own a few shares.
Oh, but I do get the occasional email from distant relatives that I didn't know I had in Nigeria informing me that I have a sizeable inheritance to collect. Just too darned busy to get around to following up.

Yes, absolutely right. It is replacing Band of Outsiders. Personally I am okay with that as I have a copy of that film already!
I think El Casado may have been on TCM before?
