Bay City Rollers frontman Les McKeown dies aged 65: Family and fans left in shock as Scottish singer whose Tartan-clad band sold 100m records and found global fame in 1970s passes away 'suddenly'
Bay City Rollers singer Les McKeown has died at the age of 65. The announcement was made by his family on the band's Facebook page this afternoon. Describing their shock at the 'profound loss', the family said he had died suddenly on Tuesday at home. Formed at the end of the 1960s, the Bay City Rollers enjoyed huge success at home and abroad with their distinctive tartan outfits and upbeat pop tunes like Bye Bye Baby and Shang-a-Lang.

Grain of Sand (1983) Pomme Meffre, France
When Delphine Seyrig loses her job she has a mid-life crisis. She finds it difficult to re-engage with the world around her and slips into feelings of regret about a lost love. I found it simple and effective.

Torpedo Bombers (1983) Semyon Aranovich, Russia
This is about a Squadron of light bombers that take on German convoys. The missions are done in a creative fashion with a mixture of new dramatic footage, stock footage and model work. I thought that if the ‘life on the wintery base’ sequences had been a bit more dramatic it would have lifted the film up. As it is, it felt a bit flat.

Not long ago I suggested this double bill. I know that this is a no-brainer as it is alphabetical, but red shoes are mentioned in Red River.

8 p.m. Red River (1948). "and buy her a pair of red shoes."

10:30 p.m. The Red Shoes (1948)

Thanks. I think I'd prefer to see Ma's speech on the big screen.
Another reason why it is such a great film.

I read the book in high school but can't recall Steinbeck's ending. Would you mind telling us what it was, Bogie? Be as brief as you like.
By the way, I was into Steinbeck back then, having read his Travels With Charley, shortly afterward getting a standard poodle which I then gave that name.
Tom's sister's baby is still born. Her husband abandoned her. They are hiding out in a barn. She gives a dying man her milk straight from the chest if you know what I mean.

There is no way in the world that they could have shot Steinbeck's ending to The Grapes of Wrath in 1940. I doubt that they would even want to do it today.
