The Human Bullet (1968) Kihachi Okamoto, Japan
Absurdist look at WWII Japan as young recruit readies himself to be a kamikaze. It's tone reminded me in of Richard Lester’s How I Won the War (1967). Minori Terada won Japan’s Mainichi Award for Best Actor. Tatsuya Nakadai narrates. But it won’t be for everyone.

Very cool indeed, Bogie. Poitier paved the way for Washington. They are two of the greats.
Sidney Poitier is one of those people that is like a magnet. As soon as you see him you are drawn to him. I saw him early in the morning just for a few moments. He was with a few other people walking through the MGM lot. Elegant as can be.
On the way to work that day I saw a jet ski lying in the middle of a busy intersection. About 20 minutes later I saw Poitier and thought this is a memorable day. The riots broke out a little later.

One of the aspects of cool in a person to me is someone who remains in control of their emotions when under stress, thereby being better able to extricate him or herself from a tight or dangerous situation.
Bogart and Mitchum demonstrated that kind of cool in their hard boiled vehicles.
In his action film roles Denzel Washington has specialized in showing a minimum of emotion in scenes of big explosive power. When everyone around him is scrambling in panic and fear he remains stoically single minded in achieving his goal, setting aside any fears for his life. The Equalizer films appear to be based on his action screen persona.
I saw Denzel in person once. Very cool !
And Sidney Poitier too. I saw him on the Sony/MGM lot the day the riots broke out in Los Angeles. Super cool!

Jack Elam as Snaky in Once Upon a Time In the West (1968). Elam continued a tradition of bit parts in westerns with this Sergio Leone classic but somehow he managed to stand out without saying a word.
