IMPACT was on TCM in the 90's. a friend taped it for me & I still have it. It is a perfect print. I have been waiting since then to record it myself but no dice. WB has removed alot of noir titles off TCM because of the Film Noir book by ursini & silvers. Crime pix are the only genre that hasn't dated as badly as most of the others. so natcherly in your best interests TCM does not show them. I, THE JURY & THE LONG WAIT are others UA (spillane) by Victor Saville not shown on TCM. Lets face it they need to make room for andy hardy so they took out some crime pix.
-
You left out IMPACT 49
-
Although WB owns UA, very few are shown on TCM. UA & Allied Artists collections are being withheld from tv. For no good reason I might add.

Since the secret service allowed JFK to get bumped off, that gives this work of fiction a ring of truth. & We all know who it was pulled the triggers...

Ida Lupino did not direct for studios. Her pix are independent. No woman directed for studios. from 1930 -60 .... zero zilch nada no women directors on studio pix.
-
What did Ida Lupino make? Something about a pregnant girl. Not Married?
-
There are none in the studio system era. The only one is Muriel Box in England. She made several movies worth checking out: STREET CORNER 1953 aka BOTH SIDES OF THE LAW THE BEACHCOMBER 1954 THE PASSIONATE STRANGER 1957 aka A NOVEL AFFAIR She was a top screenwriter as well. That is it. The film industries did not care for a woman's pov.

It might be better to watch older movies in which the screen size is not a factor. If you don't like or are unwilling to accept what TCM is giving you, GO BACK to the past. BACK to silent movies. Stop worrying.

TCM needs to play more silent films in prime time. All the rest of the sound pix have been on tv for decades. Silent pictures offer stuff we havent seen. It aint just you. When TCM shows the same stuff year in year out, you reach a saturation point. All of a sudden you realize the crime pix have been removed because they are the only movies that are relevant still. A Studio exec said: "All our movies are obsolete." yes except crime. So they decided to take the crime pix out of the rotation. Making the TCM schedule andy hardy like.

Thank you for telling me that. It corrected.

When I punch a thread I get the last page instead of the first page. & the thread begins at the bottom instead of the top. Everything about this board is @$$ backwards!

"I do wonder what - if anything - the folks at TCM are doing about getting these rarities on the air. " nothing.

Tonite at 9:15pm (pst) Hollywoods first all synch sound feature. The very first all synch sound feature was "Siegfried" 1924. Once again Hollywood lags far behind the rest of the world in technology. I heard (just a rumor) that Douglas Fairbanks bought Fritz Lang's "Der Mude Tod" aka DESTINY so he could copy its magic carpet technique for his "Thief of Bagdad" 1924. Just another example of Hollywood lagging behind the rest of the world.

These are what I call Homeland Security Dept. scenarios. People sneaking bombs thru airport TSA teams. SSSHHH they are so busy groping children & grannies & stealing laptops & IPads that mad bombers go right past uninspected! They are on tonight at 9PM & 10:30PM TCM

Yes I think the AMC version was stretch printed. Its got a funky look to it.
-
I always keep all my movies. I have 4-5 copies of some movies from various sources. Its a hobby. Years ago nobody knew there would be dvd releases so if you got a movie, you might not see it again for years. I'm happy to see dvd companies are getting into it. Especially silents from Image & Kino. Looking forward to the Hitchcock silents coming out.

Hope you had a chance to see THE SHEIK as part of their arab theme night. I had already recorded The Sheik when it was shown on AMC. however this version had many differences. For one many of the non speaking title cards had artwork on them which was replaced on the AMC version. & the song Valentino sings was changed to "Beautiful Dreamer" in the AMC version. I would say the Print quality was better on the AMC version with lots of scratches etc. Sometimes when they remove this stuff you get a fuzzyness. The was no tinting on the AMC version so I am guessing that is not the original color. It was added recently. The music was very well done on the TCM version. The music on the AMC version was a synthesizer & not as good. To choose between the two I'd take the TCM as the more authentic. I like both. Silent movies are often the best thing on TCM. We need to congratulate TCM for showing so many of them. Just in the nick of time they made a comeback in popularity & thanks to TCM & others today the Silent Movie sits high on a pedestal in movie history.

Now that Comcast owns Universal, there is a possibility they might dust off these pics. If I were you, I'd contact Comcast. There is money to be made. Too bad MCA were not interested.

It looked like R.O. was trying to get the man to pipe down but he kept on rambling. I think THIEF OF BAGDAD runs 160 so they started a trifle early to fit it in. I already have the movie from PBS/Thames/Channel 4 with Carl davis doing the music. -
Thief of Bagdad: started early??

They had some windbag blabbing about arabs. Since we are at war with 3 arab countries, its particularly inapt to talk about brotherhood. Maybe when we take our boots off their necks & stop torturing them we can bring the jerk back. -
I am talking about the beginning credits. duh.
-
Just start the movie & let the credits run without skipping, please. I think TCM zapped the credits to protect the pic from bootlegs.

Does TCM air many Allied Artists releases?
