For that matter, I don't recall him being in that many big commercial or critical big screen successes during his big breakout post-Miami Vice period.

Yep, pretty much true here, Swithin. Over the years I too have noticed that the vast majority of that channel's offerings are also occasionally shown on TCM as well. Good point! Plus, those films are sometimes not "unedited" and the channel is not "commercial free" to boot. Now, I DO occasionally watch a film that they broadcast, but they most often tend to be films of which I'm already familiar and such as your above mentioned examples. (...still though, I've always considered that channel a "plus" and in regard to it now days being a rarity in showing these old classics films) -
No, they're both hard boiled AND pickled, dude! Just ask Nick the bartender. He'll tell ya! (...considering you spend so much time there, I'm sure he knows you from Adam's off ox, right?!)

Three more than these two come readily to my mind in this case, Sepia. John Mellencamp's Jack & Diane, and the line in it: "Jackie sits back, collects his thoughts for the moment, scratches his head and does his best James Dean." Don McClean's American Pie, and the line in it: "When the jester sang for the King and Queen, in a coat he borrorwed from James Dean." And, Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side, and the line in it: "Jackie is just speeding away. Thought she was James Dean for a day." (...point once again being, I don't recall all that many songs ever mentioning either Brando or Clift)

Well MissW, first, yep, your earlier point about David and Louise gettin' it on hot and heavy in his lake house over that summer, was one I agreed with the first time you brought it up. This aspect of film seemed so obvious to me too that I didn't bother replying to it specifically, although I think I did give ya a "like" on the post you first mentioned it in. Secondly, yeah, I can see what you mean with this "ghost story" thing. I kind'a got that feeling during that part of the film, too. But you sure didn't bring THIS up earlier, now DID you?! Heck, I might've RUN with THAT one, and 'cause as Ray Parker Jr. said in his one big hit, "I ain't 'fraid o' no ghosts!" (...and thirdly, yep, you're probably right again about how all the characters end up)
-
And don't forget those pickled ones in that jar over at the end of bar, Thompson. (...you know, right over there on the end of the bar where those women you talk with about me usually sit!)

LOL YEP! (...and in fact, I can feel my arteries hardening as I sit at this keyboard this evening!) -
Yeah, but does HE have a program on TV that focuses on Italian cuisine TOO??? Don't think so. (...and hey besides, he's STILL half British, and you remember that old joke that says "In Hell, the Germans are the police and the British are the cooks", don't YA?!)

You two DO know that the "Movies!" channel has an exclamation point at the end of its name, don't ya?!! (...take it from a guy who always likes to use a whole lot of those suckers!!!) LOL -
I don't think I can pick a favorite between these three. All three were very good at their craft. I'll just say here that I know ONE of 'em is mentioned in a heck of lot more in Rock songs than the other two are, anyway. (...and I think you guys know which one THAT is, don't ya)
-
But, with ANOTHER difference between these two other than the glasses being that I hear Mr. Strong here couldn't cook a decent plate of Spaghetti if his life depended upon it!
-
Don't think I've seen the one mentioned yet that takes place over a Saturday night at the end of the summer of 1962 in Modesto, California... (...I can't believe that the first time I watched this one when it was released in '73, I felt it pertained a little more to people a half-generation before me, but now there's been almost three generations that have come after that time...tempus fugit, eh?!)

And speaking of the handsome Mr. Darren... Did I ever tell you folks about the time one of my agents at the LAX ticket counter, a very nice and friendly older women by the name of Stephanie Valentini, checked him in for a flight? It was SO damn cute how when she met the actor who she later would tell me that she had had a major crush on since his old Moondoggie days, she began acting like a giddy star-struck teenager all over again as she issued him his boarding pass. Being raised in Italy, she spoke fluent Italian, and I remember him thanking her with a knowing wink after she called him by his given Italian surname which she had obviously known for years prior and being the big fan of his that she was. (...I'll never forget this)

Yeah, I suppose there's a bit of a resemblance between Clutch Cargo and Race Bannon here, midwesty. (...however, you know who this shot of Race reminds me of?...I think it looks like James Darren and when he got a little older and his hair went grey)

Yep, and kind'a like how one of the then new television networks at the time, Fox, didn't yet have a ratings winner on their schedule UNTIL and AFTER all the uproad created by the Religious Right about their 'Married ...with Children' sitcom came about, and which then in turn caused a big increase in its ratings. (...yep, know exactly what ya mean here, CI) -
And I'm guessing you must have forgotten that Bronxie a few pages back said the following, MissW... And, if there ever was a character, regardless of being a real person OR an animated one who possessed a "lantern jaw", it sure was ol' Clutch here... (...btw, I've still never thought of ol' slimy Dan as having one...nope, just a long narrow face, that's all)

HEY, this reminds me here, Moe! Ever heard the one about the Chinaman, ahem, I mean the Asian guy, and the Mexican, ahem, I mean the Hispanic guy, and, well, I think the third guy was a Mick, ahem, I mean an Irish guy, and who all walk into a bar at the same time? (...well, if you can think of a punchline for this one, let me know!...I'm stumped for one at the moment) -
My gal Stef and the car designed by master custom car builder Gene Winfield named the "Piranha" and which was featured in the TV series The Man (and The Girl) from U.N.C.L.E.: (...I'd guess John DeLorean might've seen this car at one time and before he started out on his own little venture)

Yeah, but I ask ya here, ham. Was this whole "Suzy Homemaker" thing any WORSE for kids than what the slimy Elliott Mainway of Mainway Toys shown here would push onto an unsuspecting American youth back in the day?... (...NO, huh!) -

Yep! Ya know Moe, I never watched this CBS "rural comedy" much back then, but the few times I did, it seemed my eyes were always focused upon the luscious brunette Lori there. Btw, here's what looks like a fairly recent shot of her... (...still lookin' mighty nice to these ol' eyes of mine here, anyway) -
You forgot the final one here, newbie: Old Man Temple now long dead and buried, Frank and Nora sell their hotel to the Marriott chain in 1966. End of story, and end of Frank and Nora having to put up with overly demanding snowbird New Yorkers. (...btw...welcome to the boards)

"EXCLUSIVE INSIGHTS FROM BEN MANKIEWICZ"
Dargo replied to Bronxgirl48's topic in General Discussions
YEAH?! So, you think Ben is pretty clever with his takes on these J-D flicks, do ya Doug? Well, Ben couldn't/can't hold a candle to our own Rich (scsu1975) around here when it comes to this sort'a thing, ya know! In other words, I'm sure you've been around here long enough to have caught Rich's old Juvenile Delinquent movie thread that he used to update every month or so, haven't you. Now THAT was ALWAYS funny and very clever, and never "sometimes". (...couldn't wait for his next installments back then...boy, I miss that thread of his) -
If that was the case then Hibi, then why did the director purposely show a number of shots that specifically show and spotlight the name of Los Angeles on buildings (a bank particularly, I believe) and while she's stumbling around the city looking for David? Do agree with your first sentence though, as this does appear to be a plot lapse in this film. (...and especially because once again, it's never said how she could've gotten from D.C. to L.A. while in this state of mind)

And, JUST for the record here... ...Lori Saunders in the middle here WAS by far the HOTTEST of the three! (...OR, can't I say THIS anymore because it "objectifies women"???...eeh, I don't care, I'm STILL gonna say it, so THERE!!!)
