  1. Not a movie here of course, but I felt Ike's famous speech might be apropos to the subject of this thread. (...btw, my father was a soldier in Patton's Third Army which didn't land on France until D-Day+30, however as a member of that Division since late-1942, he was involved in the North African, Sicily and boot of Italy invasions)
  2. And, yet another movie in which if the old saying, "Lucky in cards, unlucky in love" is true, would imply that Van Heflin must have been one hellava poker player. (...well, in regards to so many of the characters he played in his career, anyway)
  3. Yep, in DeMille's Reap the Wild Wind. (...but this is why my above post included the words, " "at the hands of another human being, an important distinction here")
  4. Maybe you didn't recongnize him because this one was filmed before he had had his ears done?
  5. Yep, that's definitely NOT Zasu up there. Although, when she was young, she WAS kind'a cute... (...but then again, weren't we all when we were young...well okay, many of us, anyway)
  6. Actually Stallion and if we can stretch this point a bit, before Dern killed Wayne in The Cowboys, Big Duke had been killed "at the hands of another human being", an important distinction here, in a few other films made previously to this western. In The Fighting Seabees (1944) and in Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), by a Japanese soldier. And, in The Alamo (1960), by a Mexican soldier and when Wayne played the historical figure Davy Crockett. (...although admittedly, the differences here being that these are shown as a circumstance and consequence of war and performed by an unbilled character or movie extra, and not as cold blooded murder and which is how the credited in the film Dern dispatched the big guy by shooting him in the back)
  7. Hi Shank Asu. In regards to my above Bruce Dern comment, I'll now copy and paste an offering of mine in the recent "Great Hollywood Screen Psychopaths" thread which should explain it. It's a story I once heard Dern himself tell on some talk show years ago, and which I found very amusing both then and to this day: (...btw, welcome to the boards)
  8. Actually Bronxie, maybe not such an oxymoron as it might first sound. And, especially if we're talkin' about a "library" of audio tapes. By this I mean that your comment reminded me of a documentary film I watched at a local little art house cinema here in Sedona a few years back titled Listen to Me Marlon (2015). And I have to say it was very well done and quite interesting, and due to its use of Brando's own words which he had dictated into many many cassette tapes about his life experiences and how he viewed himself and the world... Listen to Me Marlon (2015) - IMDb (...I highly recommend a viewing of it, as even though I've never been THAT big a fan of Brando's myself, it helped me gain an insight into how complex and intelligent a man he was)
  9. Yeah, but I hear there's STILL a lot of people in Berkeley who love him, anyway! (...boy, I sure hope I don't have to explain this one again)

    Cyd

Okay now...which one...WHICH one? DAMN, what a tough decision here! Eeeh, I think I'd still have to go with Ava here. Yeah, sorry Cyd, but Ava's always gonna be No.1 in my book. (...but you DO run a good close second if this helps at all!)
  11. I dunno, Hibi. Seems to me she was so hooked on Ryan for whatever reason, that the idea of shooting him for that reason seems unlikely. (...but then again, that's not a bad assumption, perhaps)
  12. Yeah, okay. (...it would be a shame to waste that strong arm of yours at first base, anyway)

    Cyd

    HEY! Get in line, buddy!
  14. Nah, I just chalked that up to the idea of her maybe being a kleptomanic. OR maybe to the idea that without the gun, Thaxter was removing any possibility that Leigh could or would shoot Ryan the next time they might encounter each other. (...yeah, actually it's the second one here, CJ)
  15. Aaah, a lefty are we, slayton? Then how about if we put you at first base instead? (...that guy named "Who" never really worked out very well at that postion anyway, ya know)
  16. Dargo

    Cyd

LOL I know! Seems like she was anyway, huh slayton. (...but evidently the leggy beauty was only all of 5'7'')
  17. Noooo, DON'T do that, slayton! I, for one, would be VERY interested in hearing Sans' "little fuzzy"'s experiences with his Toronados. (...and besides, we just don't hear enough from him much anymore as it is, ya know)
  18. Yep, it was pretty much the noses I was referencing up there, as admittedly Allison does have a "chiseled" look too in many regards.
  19. Yep, exactly, Ed. I'm amazed at what Hemi 'Cudas are going for now days! And as it appears you know, it seems one can pick up a nice/clean early year model Toronado in the $15K-$25K range all day long. They just have never taken off in the collector car market for some reason. (...and yep, I'll never forget seeing my first 1966 Toronado when I was about 13 y/o and with its very clean and elegant design ...I thought "the future had arrived")
  20. Yeah, I guess there's a little bit between Bella and Allison here, maybe. However, I've always thought Bella looked a lot like Rita Gam, and also a bit like Viveca Lindfors. (...with the three of them having those classic chiseled features)
  21. Wonder how you'd feel about Bella if she were, say, about 45 feet taller, Nip??? Seems you like the softer look in a woman and unlike Bella's more chiseled features. (...and regardless how tall the women might be)

    Cyd

Good point, James, and one that got me wondering why I've felt Cyd was never that good as a dramatic actress. I think this might have all originally stemmed from when I was a teenager, and before ever watching any of her earlier dance work in classic musicals. I remember first noticing her when she'd guest on some television drama series during the '60s, '70s, '80s and later, and after she had pretty much wound down her dancing career. I remember thinking to myself the first I saw her in one of those old series, "WOW! Who IS this gorgeous and glamorous 'older' woman I'm looking at here? BOY, is SHE ever HOT!" But then later when I'd see her again in another show, she always seemed to be playing a character which was pretty much the same as the last...pretty much the "gorgeous and glamorous" type who's always perfectly made-up and wardrobed, and during her life when she looked like this... And so I suppose this was when I must have made up my mind that Cyd's range when it comes to acting was probably pretty limited. (...make any sense at all???)
  23. Oh now slayton, ol' boy. YOU know you can always count on me to bring this baby back-on-track here, don't YA?! (...hey, and speaking of "tracks"...I used to ride from L.A. to Laguna Seca Raceway near Monterey with a bunch of guys every July to watch the World Superbike races there...but seein' as how you once told me that this thread was about cars and not motorcycles, I won't now attempt to post any pics of 'em that were ever in movies!) LOL
  24. So, kind'a like that old joke: "Be wary of any female surgeon who never questioned their mother when she told her, 'The way to a man's heart is through his stomach'. " (...so, kind'a like that?)
  25. Of course with Frank being on the outs with JFK at the time and due to feeling snubbed by the whole "Sorry Frank, but I've changed my mind about visiting you at your Palm Springs home" affair, would have had no bearing at all on Frank's mindset at the time, huh. (...and with this of course not even factoring into it the thought and as ham just noted here, that this is called "hearsay")
