I started to wonder when I heard that if perhaps this might have been less so about her looks at the time than it might have been about some form of "misdirected self-hatred" brought on during the time she was being blacklisted. (...that's the problem with most interviews...they sometimes fail to ask the "follow-up" question I'd like to hear asked)
-
LOL And with synchronmesh in all forward gears, I presume!
-
Yeah, and we ALSO found out that "George" was a REALLY good kisser, TOO! (...and thus it's no wonder why "George" was "so vain and probably thought that song was about him"!)
-
Uh-huh...kinda like MY intentionally annoying shtick about pointing out 'superfluous letters' in certain words like that 'c' you just used in the word 'shtick' here, finance! (...though of course in MY case, it's usually about that superfluous letter 'u' the Brits and Canadians use in certain OTHER words!)

Did anyone catch the Lee Grant segment on CBS Sunday Morning today?
-
No need to, Ham. I hear their plan in this regard is just to have some guy from Saskatoon point a camera at the oldest Baldwin and have him self-destruct as always!!!
-
Well dude, I think this is(WAIT a second here!...you don't have me on IGNORE...why, how very "MATURE" of you here!!!...ah, but I digress)...now where was I here?! OH yeah...I think THIS is sort of like what I said in that "Yellowface" thread today. Uh-huh, the part were I said somethin' about "people who have REAL self-confidence DO NOT take things "personally" at the drop of a freakin' hat, and ESPECIALLY a little humor directed their way AND be that "humor" considered "immature" or NOT"! (...I hope you saw that!)
-
Oh yeah. My hope for these boards is that ONE day we'll ALL be as "mature" AND be able to take a little kiddin' around just like you, dear TB!!! LOL
-
Yeah, well, I just wanna say here that that bleached-out platinum blonde hair AND those plucked to almost nothin' and thin little penciled-in unnatural lookin' eyebrows the women of the 1930s sported were JUST as bad a look as almost ANYTHING the '70s ever produced!!!
-
Yeah, Sutherland IS good in TDOTL alright, Swithin. Though, as you acknowledged here, it's in more of an ensemble casting. And I also think he's great in and perfectly cast in Redford's ORDINARY PEOPLE as the somewhat "weak" father, but once again, he isn't the focus of or the male lead in that one EITHER! (...nope, while the guy IS a very good actor, I think his best work has always been in more of that ensemble type of thing)
-
Yeah, I understand that, hep. It's just that I found Sutherland(and never an actor I thought was very good as being the "male lead", but was always much better in a supporting roles...I dunno, maybe it's just those "goofy" looks o' his...yeah, yeah, I'm SOOO "shallow", LOL) doesn't project a strong enough character in THIS film in order to provide a good "counter-balance" to Fonda's character.

Yellowface staging of 'Mikado' has to end
Dargo replied to FredCDobbs's topic in General Discussions
Ummm...well...yeah. I suppose in a manner of speaking here, I AM! Yep, I guess what I'm tryin' to say here is somethin' along the lines that for some people to take PERSONAL offense to such things DOES kind'a say somethin' about their OWN insecurities, and MAYBE because they'd rather identify themselves as a member of ONE particular "sub-group" of the human race instead of as their own "unique individual". I mean, how many "white males" on television sitcoms and commercials now days are shown as bein' some kind'a "doofus", and yet I DON'T think of myself as that sort at ALL, and DEFINITELY don't take offense to such a thing probably because I possess a good self-image....though of course SOME folks may say that THAT'S just my "enlarged ego"!!! LOL And hey, YOU may even know a few "white males" out there who are SO insecure and screwed-up in the head that THEY even think there's some kind of a freakin' "conspiracy" against THEM now days!!!. I know I run into those kind'a guys myself, anyway! Don't care much to hang with 'em, of course! LOL (...yep, maybe that IS what I'm tryin' to say here James, come to THINK about it!) -
I find it rather strange that TB just won't come right out and say it here, and what I think is the main problem with this film, or at least what I always found to be the problem anyway... Much like Omar Sharif not being able to "carry" that David Lean movie about a doctor's experiences during the Russian Revolution and because of the "passive" and overly "restrained" manner he portrayed THAT character, I've always found Donald Sutherland's portrayal of the title character in THIS film to be in a similar manner. And thus, like Sharif, in THIS film Sutherland is, well, just, ummm...BOR-ing! (...but as always, YOUR mileage..err..I mean opinion, may vary out there!)
-
WOW! No offense here SG, but I'm startin' to think it MIGHT have just been easier for ya to just list the actor/actresses you DON'T find "annoying"!!!
-
Ummmm...unless I somehow missed readin' it, I think TB here might have forgotten to also mention that damn unflattering shag haircut of Jane's in this flick too! (...and which I always thought REALLY made her look like her dad in drag!!!) LOL
-
Eeh! Remember here Ham, it's still REALLY early in this thread. (...and so there's still PLENTY of time for some freakin' flag-waver to REALLY go on a rant here!!!) LOL
-
Eeh! She was okay, I guess. (...still say she looked too much like her dad in drag!!!) LOL

Yellowface staging of 'Mikado' has to end

Now what the heck do you two mean by implying there was some kind of "hijacking" goin' on here, HUH?! MY post was about being "comfortable and confident in one's own skin", and be it "male" OR "female" AND any "color" of said skin! (...and so, thinking of it in THIS manner, would my post NOT BE very very VERY germane to this topic here???) -
^Poster needs better sense of humor. (...though please excuse me for having the "bad manners" to point this out!) LOL (...OH, and btw finance...I better AT LEAST get one of these here "Likes" from you now!!!) LOL...some more

Actors Whose Images/Personas Have Not Aged Well
Dargo replied to SableGamine's topic in General Discussions
Yep, as ChristineHoard pointed out earlier, I had erroneously stated Melissa had "two" Emmys, but in fact it has only been one. However, I think her breakout movie performance in "Bridesmaids" was released right after she had already won that Emmy for Mike&Molly, and so in this case one could probably say that that film just "further established her career" (...either way, I find her, her sitcom, and everybody on it to be hilarious)- 225 replies

I just wanna say here that while I suppose I can kind of see why Wayne and Ewell might grate on some people, I almost always still enjoy their work. WHICH reminds me yet another actor that I often hear some people expressing the thought that they find annoying, but who I also enjoy watching him on screen: Keenan Wynn
-
I dunno, dark. It seems to me that Wayne could have easily played the lecherous middle-aged man in that one too, and even though of course that was probably Ewell's most famous role.
-
Uh-huh...and I hear ESPECIALLY around the Salt Lake City/Provo area!!! LOL (...sorry, could NOT resist!) And yep, good point about the limited options women have had until recent times, Arturo. (...oh, and yeah...thanks for now bein' the SECOND person to FINALLY recognize my most astute observation here after I posted it days ago, ol' buddy!) LOL
-
I'll bet you'll look just dandy in one of little spandex leotards and leg-warmer, finance! (...I mean you DO wanna get into the total spirit of the thing here, doncha?!)

The latest word on THAT is he's STILL workin' the night shift at the Truth or Consequences New Mexico 7-11. (...uh-huh...the one just off I-25)
