I don't know why he decided to quit acting and go into producing. It was certainly a smart career move.
After all, not everybody can be Cary Grant.
OR for that matter Grant Carey.
(...a guy I went to school with and who all the girls thought was a real hunk...always wondered what he had that I didn't...betcha the rat bastard is fat and bald now days, boy...yeah, serves him right for takin' away the attentions of that foxy Debbie Connors from me like that...and not only that, but...but...oops, sorry, got carried away for a second there, didn't I)

I think it's how the user chooses to select the multiple ways of "quoting" any other user. I had quoted Nip by highlighting and you quoted me quoting Nip but you did not quote all of my post... it seems to me. Plus you must be bored.

Yep, you got THAT right!
Recently decided to quit that part-time shuttle driving gig I had for 8 years between the Sedona/Cottonwood area and the PHX airport, and after the little family owned business I drove for was sold to a larger nationwide company. The larger company sounded "too corporate" to me, and after working within a corporate system in the airline industry for 35 years, this didn't sound like it would be as much fun. Really never needed the money, anyway.
And so, and as my wife would say, I've "lost my captive audience".
(...and so NOW all I have is YOU PEOPLE around HERE to "entertain"...lucky you, EH?!)

Just some random observations while I wait to hear when I can stream del Toro's version, if ever. So I'm bored and a little obsessed with Tyrone Power right now. I counted 8 instances of "crazy" talk by either Stan or someone talking TO Stan.
Oh, you're crazy.
Are you insane?
You're crazy!
Are you crazy?
What got into you, acting so crazy?
You think I'm crazy?
Are you crazy?
No I'm not crazy. He also chews a lot of gum and likes to say "Yeah, I heard ya the first time." Once he hits the bigtime no more gum. Fascinating, I know.
😀Hmmm...now why is it I now feel like listening to a Patsy Cline record???

Seems I've noticed Sven only showing reruns of earlier broadcasts the past year or so.
So, has Rich Koz stored away the greasepaint for good?

hooray for Allison!
See what I mean?
You didn't say this, Nip did. You said "She is a goddess", but yet this shows you saying "hooray for Allison", right?!
(...this was all I was attempting to point out here, Allhallows...and not of course that this was/is any big whoop in the grand scheme of things...just thought I'd pass on to others something I discovered a while back about the various quote functions offered to us on this website and how they can sometimes end up posting a comment which was or can be attributed to the wrong person)

That is not what I did. Highlighted quoted portion in Swithin's post. Highlighted text you choose is easy to quote.
Yes, but as you finished highlighting it, did not a little drop-down then appear on your screen that said "Quote Selection" and which you then clicked?
Ya see and as I said earlier, I've done this exact thing in the past and it ended up attributing in my post the person who had quoted the previous poster in their post.
I'll still bet that this was what happened here, as I don't believe there is any other way for this to have happened. And in fact, I'll now try this using your latest reply to Nip here. Let's see what happens...

So for sentimental reasons. That makes sense. I saw him on an episode of Gunsmoke where he played a rather puny sad sack.
Isn't that one of the reasons he quit acting and went into producing in the first place?
(...being typecast and after SO many years of wanting to play the romantic lead?)

Nope, it wasn't "witchcraft" in this case, Swithin.
Instead of using the "quote" button at the bottom of your post, what Allhallows did was left click and dragged it and then hit "quote selection " within a portion of your post in witch, ahem, in WHICH you had earlier quoted Hibi.
(...I've done this myself in the past, and why I know)

Uh, that was WOODY GUTHRIE Carradine was playin'.
It was GEORGE HAMILTON who played Hank in YOUR CHEATIN' HEART('64)
Sadly, the movie wasn't a biopic of Berry(or the others) but of LEONARD CHESS. And while I like the movie, it's "focus" on Chuck was way too skimpy since most us "white fo'k" were mostly made aware of Chess records through Chuck.
And don't forget CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER as WILLIE DIXON.
Sepiatone
OOPS! Dang, now I knew it was Guthrie and not Williams.
Thanks for the correction here, Sepia.

So slayton, I've done a little variation on this "theme" for years, but it's in the form of a knock-knock joke:
Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Tijuana!
Tijuana, who?
Tijuana dance, under the moonlight, hold me baby, all through the night, oh baby, Tijuana dance?
(...okay, and now after THIS little detour, back to the topic at hand...)

And now, allow me to apologize for my previous post up there. And especially to any and all Hindi members we might have within this little grouping of die-hard classic movie fans AND/or to anyone who might have expected better from me here...and which after all this time is probably very very few of ya, huh.

Okay, and so in an effort to get this baby back on track, I'll now offer up the following:
David Carradine as Hank Williams in Bound for Glory (1976)
Roger E. Mosley as Huddie Ledbetter in Leadbelly (1976)
(...there, THAT'S belly, ahem, I mean better, right?!)
-
And THEN there's always Ben Kingsley as Mahatma Gandhi.
WHAT?! Never heard Gandhi's rendition "Old Man (Ganges) River" ???
I'm tellin' ya, that little dude actually had some pipes, ya know.
(...always thought it a real shame Attenborough would cut the scene of Kingsley recreating it in that movie of his)

I called my mom Saturday morning and told her TCM was showing a Japanese film. Yesterday I went to lunch and asked her if she viewed the film. She said she started to but the film was too weird for her and it was late so she only watched the first 15 minutes or so. She had never heard of the film since she was living in the USA when it was released.
So well, her lost!
Like CJ, I also thought of you and your mom as I watched Eddie's latest offering, James.
And so thanks for responding to his query.
(...and re your mom only lasting the first 15 minutes of the movie...I have to say and in her defense, I didn't think the film really took off and didn't garner my full attention until about 20 minutes into it)

YEAH! Maybe the aliens could've been members of the Jets and the dinosaurs of the Sharks?!
Now somethin' like THIS would have had box office boffo written all over it! You know how the kids out there today just eat up movies with CGI-created beings like aliens and dinosaurs!
(...wonder why Spielberg didn't think o' this???)

Nope, you're right Allhallows, it sure isn't.
But HEY, and even though, yes, he screwed up the title of that Elvis flick a little AND somehow mistook Julie for MTM here, aren't ya AT LEAST impressed with how for once Nip actually properly capitalized the words and names in his sentence up there?
Well, I was, anyway! Will wonders never cease???
(...say, maybe I finally got through to the guy in that Frank Capra thread today!)

Ya know Nip, you really ARE respectful of Marion Morrison, aren't ya!
And 'cause HIS nickname is and was the ONLY damn time I've EVER seen you spell ANYTHING by correctly capitalizing it!
(...and NOW if only you could be as "respectful" to the REST of the English language!)

I'd like to see a movie about John Wayne telling Capra off....
It is a great deal more difficult to understand his extreme right wing politics. Not only did he openly support and admire Senator Joseph McCarthy during the Communist witch hunts of the fifties, he even offered his services to help track down any ‘commies’ in the movie industry. He joined Walt Disney, Clark Gable, James Stewart and others in aiding the House Un-American Activities Committee to ferret out suspected communist sympathizers in Hollywood. In 1952 his Big Jim McLain was a love letter to Senator McCarthy and the HUAC, with the Duke hunting down ‘Reds under the bed’ in post-war Hawaii. His budding friendship with Robert Mitchum’s son Christopher ended in 1973 after Wayne and Chris had a disagreement over politics. ‘I didn’t know you was a pinko’, the Duke told him. Not surprisingly, Wayne was a member of the ultra-right John Birch Society, as well as the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Big John Wayne, America's Hero
Why THANKS, Nip!
You've just given me ANOTHER reason to like Frank Capra here. Uh-huh, and it's kind'a like how my appreciation for John Ford greatly increased after I heard about the time Ford once went off on C.B. DeMille and gave HIM a piece of HIS mind about this same sort'a thing during a meeting of famed directors.
Yep, now THAT'S a movie recreation that I'D like to see!
(...yep, thanks dude...OH, and Merry Christmas!)

I've always thought it a real shame that these two titans of the 20th century cinema were only paired once and only in this film...

And who of course are Spencer Tracy and Fredric March in Inherit the Wind.
(...and don't hear these two mentioned much when it comes to the idea of movie pairings, now do ya?!)

The 1938 University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team (who lost to the Univ. of California, Berkeley Golden Bears 13-0 in that year's Rose Bowl game) visits the set of The Adventures of Robin Hood.

A shot of the two stars of The Sound of Mucus (hey, don't blame ME for this one...the guy on the left here used to call it that himself, ya know) during a day off from shooting in Salzburg, Austria.

And now a question about why Joe Shishido the lead in this film would think implanting the pads in his cheeks which made his face look fatter and instead of implanting them higher up and around his cheekbones and so in order to give his face more a taut and sculpted look.
Did or do the Japanese believe this fatter face look to be desirable or more attractive in some way?
(...didn't get THIS at all)

Well presented case history, oh fellow leg man!
And so now EPM and in appreciation, allow me to present to you with the Darren McGavin Award for your excellence in detailing the very reasons why we select men who above all other lovely aspects of the feminine form, prize the aesthetics of womens lower appendages...
