  1. As "children"??? I dunno Swithin, but considering their births were both around 1880, I'm figuring IF they were ever filmed during their childhood, it was probably Thomas Edison himself who was doing the filming.
  2. LOL Yeah, but he moved up to number 5 after Gummo decided to go into the business end of things!
  3. Aaah! The Great Profiles' second banana in "Svengali", eh?!
  4. Hmmmm...well, I suppose you're not referring to Michael Douglas in 'Wall Street", as not only is his character's name spelled slightly differently, but it's not a "very old film"(well, at least not to THIS crowd around HERE anyway LOL)...well...hmmmmm...I'm not sure I know right off-hand, Swithin. (...gimme a hint)
  5. I think you spelled "offense" wrong, MissW. THAT'S what I think!!! (...well, okay...down here south of the 49th anyway!)
  6. While laffite is taking his little break here James, allow me to answer this question for you. That's the portrait of character Kitty March which Joan plays and which is used in the movie "Scarlet Street". It was painted by artist John Decker. http://movieclassics.wordpress.com/2010/06/02/scarlet-street-1945-and-artist-john-decker/
  7. Yeah laffite, maybe you SHOULD take a little break here....and until you start gettin' my jokes again!!! LOL (...'cause all I was inferrin' there was that the little gecko reminded me of the little dude who sells insurance on TV and nothin' more)
  8. Yeah, but for some strange reason I NOW have a sudden urge to go spend 15 minutes to save 15% on my car insurance!!!
  9. Nah, I knew you were kidding, laffite. (...though I have to say I've always thought the little smiley with the wink and the one with his tongue sticking out as conveying two completely different thoughts...the former as "I hope you know I'm just joshin' ya here", and the latter as more of a "So THERE!" kind of thing)
  10. Well, right off the bat when McDowell and his cohorts beat up the drunk on the street and then a little later when they invade that home and he rapes the wife while singing "Singin' in the Rain". THAT'S just about the time I say to myself somethin' like, "Okay, I THINK I get Kubrick's idea here about the dichotomy of modern life, with there being the unreal fantasy depicted in films like the Gene Kelly movie and contrasting that with the gritty real violence to be found in the modern world", but by THIS time I've pretty much have had enough of how Kubrick is setting up what I know through reading of the story's premise about it questioning which is worse, extreme antisocial behavior or the measures to eradicate it. (...I guess one might say I "just couldn't take the visuals used to press the point of the story" for very long...I don't know, maybe that's a failing on my part)
  11. LOL Yeah, and once he gains control of this baby around here, MY guess is he'll have 'em show "Big Jim McLain" first thing!!! LOL (...AND with commercial interruptions, of course....gotta make that money, ya know!)
  12. Well, I've often thought that "shyness" is very often just the convenient and socially acceptable use of not having the guts to state one's opinion and to avoid "rocking the boat" and possibly risk becoming "unpopular". (...but maybe that's just my opinion)
  13. Yeah, I've always gotten that impression too, Holden. Good point.
  14. Gotta say I think the possible height of "laziness" here would be IF someone was driven away from expressing their thoughts about this film simply because they might "fear" their opinion(be it positive OR negative) might be in the minority, and thus would be "too lazy" to then further state the reason(s) for their opinion once it might be challenged. (...yep, THAT to ME would be "lazy")
  15. WHAT?! You say you don't know of what many consider THE greatest animated short ever MADE???!!! (...and here you call yourself "cultured"...PSHAW!!!)
  16. Question here: Can I post Chuck Jones' classic "What's Opera, Doc?" on that soon-to-be created thread??? (...sorry...that whole "roadrunner" thing had me thinkin' this way)
  17. Oh, c'mon now, people! Have some faith that that bald old rich Aussie will do right by us lowly sorts. (...he always has in the past, now hasn't he?!) LOL
  18. The "ACME"??? Which movie was she in where she's trying to catch roadrunners? (...sorry...yeah yeah, I know...a new low for me...if that's possible anyway)
  19. OR, endlessly enthusing about the portrayal of African-Americans in that flick. (...and speakin' of that flick, AND speakin' of the "child actors"...I gotta say I can see why little Cammie King who played Bonnie Blue Butler had such a very short film career...'cause basically I thought she was AWFUL in that movie)
  20. I dunno, MissW. Possibly explained by this website being frequented by those with more than a passing knowledge of film history, and thus with Surely..err..Shirley(that was for you, btw) being the most obvious example, and thus with the thought that the regular contributors around here wishing to suggest the more "esoteric" and possibly less well remembered child stars and their performances.
  21. Uh-huh...yep. We DEFINITELY have to take our act on the road, ol' buddy!!! LOL
  22. OH! And so you DO know what I meant when I said, "Well, you know how those Frenchies are, doncha dark?!"
  23. I have to admit I've never been able to sit through the entire movie. In fact, the last time I was over to a friends house and he suggested we pop a Kubrick film into his Blu-Ray so we could watch it on his new 70 inch TV, and when he suggested THIS movie, I told him no thanks I'd rather watch "Dr.Strangelove" for the umpteenth time instead.
