Weeeell, once AGAIN, Rey, it IS really really REALLY easy to get back on topic in a thread once "those people"(yeah, like ME) sidetracks it for a while, ya know. Just see one of my later posts in this baby and when I said: "And NOW back on topic here..." ...and when I got ALL serious in this...ahem..."evergreen" discussion about some OTHER peoples' problems with TCM's programming choices and when I then stated MY oh so serious opinion about said programming,. and then I think you'll see how truly easy doin' THAT is. (...yep, once again, it's really really REALLY easy to type THAT out and then tell us all what YOU think about this "dreadful ongoing problem"...yep, really really REALLY easy, alright...yeah, yeah, I know I KNOW...you feel you shouldn't have type "all that" out at first, huh!) LOL

"Well, whaddaya mean by THAT, Pilgrim???!!!"

finance, I have always considered Walter Pigeon to have possessed what was/is known as a "Mid-Atlantic" accent(neither totally "British" or "American/Canadian" either...more a blending of these) and similar to what Archie Leach would come to use when he became Cary Grant. And so, if I'm correct about Walter here, with him having this "Mid-Atlantic" accent, it always allowed ME(anyway) to accept him as playing a Brit fairly easily.

News: Dame May Whitty more popular than Rock Hudson!
Dargo replied to TopBilled's topic in General Discussions
Okay Rich. I THINK you're "a little" confused here. (...'cause I DON'T think back in the day any captain of a ship ever gave the order: "Put on your 'May Whittys' 'cause it looks like we're gonna sink!") -
Sorry Tom, but your thought which I took the liberty to place in bold letters ISN'T necessarily accurate. You see, what CAN be done and programmed, and which IS the case in another website which I frequent(yeah yeah, that Triumph motorcycle one) is that the oldest posts are on "page-1" and all subsequent posts are shown on latter numbered pages, AND that if you are signed into the boards, the program will remember the last post you read because you have previously clicked upon that particular thread's "last page" beforehand, and thus it places the first 'unread" post at the top of your screen and all subsequent posts you "haven't read" below that one and in time posting order. (...and thus negating this present need around here of scrolling down to get to your first "unread" post and then having to scroll back up and read bottom to top as it stands now)

And NOW, back on topic here... MY opinion is: On the whole, I think TCM's programming is unique, and I appreciate that they present a wonderful VARIETY of films from the forgettable older B&W "Programmers" made during the Studio Era TO some of the better made and sometime innovative more modern fare, and a VARIETY which NO other channel on MY TV anyway seems to offer. AND, presented by some VERY knowledgeable and likable hosts...well, OTHER than little Drew anyway, though she's "likable" enough, I suppose.. And SORRY if THAT sounds like I'm some kind of a friggin' "TCM Apologist" here!!! (...man, I've sure done a whole lot o' apologizin' in this baby, haven't I???!!!) LOL
-
Yeah, I guess I'll have to admit it does maybe "bother"me a little, Hibi...but definitely NOT to the extent of how "bein' ignored" affected Glenn Close in a particular movie that I would assume "SOME folks" around here hope will never be broadcast on TCM because it was released to the theaters in, gasp, NINETEEN EIGHTY SEVEN, and YEARS after Louis B. Mayer bit the dust!!! LOL (...and yes, I TOO have always felt the same way as you about placing ANYBODY on the ignore function, as you never know WHO you might find making a very valid comment about somethin' and thus maybe having the opportunity to look at a topic or subject from a different perceptive and one you may not have considered before, and even IF you don't particularly care for that person's "persona")
-
I'm pretty sure he does, and for a number of reasons, TB. First, he never replies to any of my questions to him, and EVEN the occasional and RARE ones when I'm actually bein' SERIOUS and not a smartazz!!! LOL And secondly, I've noticed that when someone asks a question about something and I answer it(and once again, in rare tones of seriousness), he'll later in the thread will say the very same thing I DID in answer to that question, and without any acknowledgement of my previously answering that question. And soooooo, I can ONLY assume that good ol' Fred HAS had me on his ignore function for quite a while now, and ever since, as I earlier mentioned, I "dared" disagree with him about somethin' or other. (...of course then again there IS always the possibility that Fred is just tryin' to perfect his Jack Webb persona, YOU know that whole, "Just the facts, Ma'am" thing, and that as soon as he sees my picture of Groucho up there, is just figuring that THAT guy won't have anything to say of importance around here and then just moves to read what the next poster is sayin'...YOU know what I mean, RIGHT?!...I think YOU even once mentioned feelin' this way about me TOO about a year ago or so and made some comment about findin' it tough to take ANYTHING I say around here seriously because I joke around so much...well, I THINK it was you anyway...THOUGH if I'm wrong, I'll now apologize to YOU now TOO!!!!) LOL
-
Well, let us just hope that TCM will ONLY ever show movies showcasing the "CLASSIC" WWII Jeeps, and not ones showing these newfangled CJ7 models, eh Fred?! (...yeah, I know...he won't see this) LOL

South Sea Sinner with Shelley Winters and Liberace: Where is it?
Dargo replied to Swithin's topic in General Discussions
Yeah, not bad I suppose...UNTIL she opened her mouth and SPOKE, anyway. And then that voice, SHEESH...like nails on a chalkboard! (...WHICH I suppose worked to her advantage by often playing women you seldom find yourself rooting for in the story) -
My apologies, Sans. Would you like me to delete it? I'll do that if you'd like. ***edit to follow*** In fact I've just edited that one down there....and of course went with the easy "Fernando 'Llamas'" joke instead)
-
"GIF"??? That looks like a LLAMA to me, dude! And as far as I know, this place has ALWAYS allowed images of llamas to be posted. (...BUT I think it DOES have a strict policy against llamas posting their opinions about TCM programming...but don't quote me on that)
-
Nice llama. (...wasn't he once married to Esther Williams???)
-
Update to follow: It wasn't the Scotch, it was that bottle of Kirkland brand Anejo Tequila callin' out to me. (...and believe it or not, that Costco tequila IS pretty darn good!!!)
-
No, actually. BUT, now that you mention it, that bottle of Balvenie 12 y/o Single Malt sittin' over there on my bar is now callin' my name, I think!
-
YEAH, that'd work, dark! (...are ya LISTENIN', Vautrin???)
-
LOL Yeah, maybe. BUT I gotta say his vision DOES usually appear to be good enough to post on some very inSIGHTful comments around here. (...WHICH is more than I can usually say about MYSELF!!!) LOL
-
HEY now, Vautrin! Whaddaya think you're DOIN' here by postin' this song by Clapton & Company AND that was recorded just about the time the "hallowed" movie Studio System was becoming dead and buried, HUH?! I mean, couldn't you have AT LEAST found a song and video by, say, Jimmy Dorsey or Harry James to make your point here, dude??? (...as there seems to be a few folks here who might MUCH prefer THAT sort'a thing, ya know!!!!) LOL
-
I know. And I DON'T know why there was ever any doubt about it bein' him. (...'cause even though his HAIR is wet and little mussed-up, it looks just LIKE him!!!!)
-
NOPE, Fred!(yeah, like he'll see this) What you SHOULD have said was: "Well said, and I AGREE with you"...NOT "you are right."!!!! AND because the former implies that you "know" what is "right" and to the exclusion of those who might disagree with your opinion , and thus such a tact in a discussion where exists a disagreement, exposes oneself to the charge heightened egoism. (...OR to bein' "a cranky old goat"!!!!) LOL
-
LOL And he's had ME on his ignore function for over a year now too(and since I "dared" disagree with him about somethin' or other) , and so I gotta say I LOVE your post here MissW, and he won't be able to see MY appreciation of it EITHER!!!! LOL...some more. (...though you DO know that it's not "very nice", doncha MissW?!) LOL...some more AGAIN!!!

I dunno Doc. Other than perhaps the miscasting of Hunter as the Hispanic Angeleno Gabaldon(another issue entirely of course) and Hunter being quite a few years older than the teen-aged Gabaldon, I thought it not only presented his struggles against the racism of the time reasonably well, with him being a "double target" for bigotry due to his being both Hispanic AND raised by a Japanese-American family(though of course with Hunter as the lead, the first of this is downplayed quite a bit), I also thought the battle scenes were well done and seemed fairly realistic in that "pre-Saving Private Ryan" era. (...and also considering what I would guess was its relatively meager budget, not a bad film at all in my book)
-
I know, ol' buddy. I was just kiddin' ya about your occasional talk of dating much younger women, that's all. (...you know me...can't let a set-up like THAT go by without SOME remark, RIGHT?!)
-
LOL OR, if perhaps the "Shields" and "Fitzgerald" families might have had the same milkman at one time or another?
-
And yeah, dark. It's been a few years since I've watched "Warning Shot", but as I recall I thought it a fairly well done movie, too.
