I agree, the deliberate killing of a person, even "legitimately" by state-decree, is not a matter for levity.
Hmmmm...well...I dunno 'bout THAT, MissW. The late night comedians(especially Letterman) sure had a field day after a certain raid took place in Abbottabad Pakistan(not named after Lou Costello's partner as far as I know, btw), and call me "irreverent" here, but I SURE got a real kick out of some of those jokes anyway!!! LOL

Yeah, and besides, I always thought Greg WAS Jewish, and never in a million YEARS would've placed him as a Mackerel Snapper!!! LOL
(...hey...do people still use that term since Vatican II???)
-
On this date 80 years ago, Dwayne Hickman (Dobie Gillis) was born. Where has the time gone?

And which of course means that Frank Faylen never followed through on his ongoing threat:
"I've gotta kill that boy! I've just GOTTA!!!"

No actor more gorgeous, now or then, none more talented at drama and comedy.
NONE. No contest.
Don't care if it was a persona he adopted, he is probably the best all around actor in the history of movies. Yeah, that's right. Cagney was close, but Grant wins first prize.
Better watch it, lady! Keep talkin' like that about Cary, and when you finally meet your boy Warren William in The Hereafter, he MAY just SHUN you!!! LOL

I think it says more about aging, and long-term memory vs. the short-term kind.
Yep! It seems like just yesterday when I could rattle off almost all of the answer/questions before Alex finished up reading them aloud.
And now, I very often find myself snapping my fingers in frustration and saying, "Wait, I KNOW this!" as the timer buzzer sounds and/or saying, "Yeah, THAT'S it!", as one of the contestants responds with the correct reply.
(...and so go the wages of aging, I suppose)
-
I tend to freely associate on these boards. That tendency tends to take threads off-topic.
Now what was that famous line of Claude Rains' when he explains to Bogie why he's closin' down his establishment again???

-
I presume you would have gotten all five of the clues in the Documentaries category in the Jeopardy! round too, right? And how many of the clues in the other 11 categories would you have known?

To see the responses hover over the dollar amounts.
Shocking what a "mercenary" group we have here, eh Fedya?!

LOL

Not sure I would call William Powell gorgeous, but anyway...
Paula Prentiss

She was the one good thing in Man's Favorite Sport, and was hilarious as the existentialist stripper constantly attempting suicide in What's New Pussycat, more than holding her own with Peter Sellers and Woody Allen.
OH, yeah! Paula...good choice here, RK. And let us not forget that very sexy voice of hers, also.
As a teen, I couldn't keep my eyes off her while watching that sadly short-lived sitcom "He & She" that she did with her husband Richard Benjamin.
(...yet ANOTHER very lucky guy!)
-
The very famous Three Stooges: Moe, Larry and Curly - The word you used was Моє. A lot of us, and I am speaking for some of those, tend to freely associate in conversation. You have just witnessed a prime example of this.
This has been a test of the Emergency Dargo System. If you have crawled under your desk, you may now crawl out and resume your whatever..
LOL
Thanks for explaining this to Sans for me, Kid.
(...loved the old "Drop Drill" reference too!)

-
Sounds to me as if you too slowly and steadily fell in love with Arlene Francis and just as I did while watching these old episodes of WML a while back. eh Tom?!

Yep, I agree. Martin Gabel was a lucky guy.
And yeah, your point about the "formality and politeness and civility"(and I'll add, the sophistication) of that era and which is especially exemplified within this program in particular, was a point I too would bring up when asked by others why I had gotten so "into" watching these old reruns of this program.
-
Every time Buddy Hackett appeared on the Carson Tonight Show he would take it as a personal challenge to tell a dirty joke and get it by the censors.
How about the regular segments on Jimmy Kimmel's show now days called "Unnecessary Censorship Compilations", Mr. R?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skur1J9lkT4
(...in fact, with me bringing THIS up here, I don't think I've EVER been SO "on-topic" in a thread around here!!!)
-
i got them both today.
i was surpised i knew the comedy but i think it was the nicholson connection. wasnt it "cuckoos nest" that was the first film to sweep the majors since "it happend one night?" then "lambs" was the 3rd.
Yep, my first thought was "Cuckoo's Nest", but then I remembered the question/answer said "within the last 30 years", and so I then remembered "Silence of the Lambs".
(...however, as good as I am, I couldn't come up with "As Good As It Gets")
-
Loved the "The day has come" reply he gave in that typical British understated manner to Dorothy Kilgallen's question of, "Would you describe yourself as a 'character man'?"
(...and I swear, Arlene Francis had one of the quickest wits ever...I was really hooked on these reruns on GSN a few years back)
-
I can say a thing such as: Моє судно на повітряній подушці наповнене вуграми with no fear of being censored.

Yeah, I guess it is a good thing for you that the Stooge sportin' the bangs isn't around anymore to cause a fuss about what you just said about him here, huh!
-
Good Save
We'll give you pass since the thread is called MISTAKEN IDENTITY! LOL
Yeah, good point!
(...and one I should've thought of MYSELF to use as an excuse...yep, I MUST be gettin' old)
-
Yes, you heard it from me. LOL glad you admitted it
btw, I'm not CHAR that's Casablanca, and I'm 5'5 LOL . you gotta start working on that memory of yours LOL
DOH!!! Sorry Carol! I don't know WHY I was thinkin' o' Char here!!!
Well, maybe 'cause you're BOTH just so cute!
(...how was THAT for a save, HUH?!)

Hey dargo. A year ago (although it might be more like 2) I asked if someone would post Aline MacMahon and Sara Hadon for me since i thought there was such a strong resemblance. I commented at the time that I noticed that resemblance while watching an Andy Hardy movie. You posted them for me, even telling me i had a god eye, see you've reposted those photos
I was glad then you could also see the strong resemblance, glad you still see it LOLNow, in the back of my mind I kinda knew I had heard this one before from somebody else.
Evidently you must have made a BIG impression upon me somewhere along the line, eh Char?!

(...all 5 foot of ya anyway!)

-
Andy Hardy's Aunt Polly...Sara Haden...

...and...Aline MacMahon...

-
Well, I was actually just drawing the parallel between "house" to "houth" and "mouse" to "m outh"
But, umm.....okay.
YEAH, dark! And just like how Jimmy Stewart says, "My MOUSE bleedin', Bert! My MOUSE bleedin'! Well, whaddaya know about THAT! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!" in a certain seasonal perennial, RIGHT?!
(...and so, now that I THINK about it, do we REALLY ever need to use the word "m-o-u-t-h" at ALL around here???!!!)
-
We are allowed to say "mouse", though. Like, we could say "Shut your mouse" maybe....
"Shut your MOUSE"???
Oh WAIT! You mean kinda like David Bowie says it in "China Girl", RIGHT?!!!

-
I was gonna say "front of the houth" but I was afraid the censor would asterisk it.

Yeah, considerin' that the word "houth" (well, if there is one anyway), IS just one letter away from that "oh so offensive" word "m-o-u-t-h", I can see why you might have thought that!
-
I hath a wrought iron gate at the front of the house.
Yep, exactly dark!
(...and here all this time I'll bet you thought that lisp of yours would never come in handy, now didn't ya?!)

-
Wow. What HAVE I wrought?
Now, I COULD be wrong here Sepia, but I think there's some kind of rule somewhere that says if you use the word "wrought" in a sentence, you're supposed to ALSO use the word "hath" and not "have" in it!
(...though now that I think about this, maybe Samuel Morse has just been too much of an influence upon me all this time)

-
You're not going to be happy until you turn us all into hoodlums, are you?
Hey! Don't be a square, Daddy-o! Rich is one cool cat who's always on-the-beam and his stuff is a real gas to read!

Yeah, I get this same problem every time I watch one of those Godzilla flicks!
(...well, except for some same strange reason, Raymond Burr's voice is the ONLY one in sync!!!)
